Some more Wild analysis from Dom in this one, including some Faber tire pumping.

“How good exactly? He currently leads the league in Defensive Rating at plus-3.7. Not rookies — the whole league. He’s on pace to hit plus-11.7 which would be the best mark since 2007-08 for a rookie. If he keeps it up, he’s on track for a top-five season for a rookie defenseman in the analytics era.”
These numbers will be put to the test for the next little while at least.

Is Spurgeon out now too?

Update: yes
So... name followed by (where they would ideally be in the lineup):

Middleton (#5-6 D) - Faber (#2-3)
Bogosian (#6-7) - Merrill (#7-AHL)
Goligoski (see Merrill) - Mermis (more of the same)
Hunt (we'll see)

I just noticed that my first sentence ends in an accidental frowny face. Seems appropriate, I don't think I'll change it.

I'll be immensely disappointed if Hunt doesn't get a shot at some real ice time. What do you actually have to lose with two full pairings of guys who aren't better than 6.5D's and have no (medium- to long-term) future on this roster? At least with Hunt you still hope he's on this team in 4-5 years.

With recent injuries it wouldn't hurt to just call it a rebuilding year and parade in some young guys to get them some experience.

Bill Guerin just hired outside investigators to look into your conduct mister. You better check yourself before you wreck yourself.

How would you start the goalies on the upcoming roadtrip?
We got Pens and then B´s back to back.
I would go Gus at Piss and MAF at Boston, because I view Bruins as a tougher game and more likely to lose no matter who the goalie is.

MAF against Pittsburgh. Returning to the team that drafted him. Fans there love him. Easier opponent. Gus should get the tougher opponents.

That is probably the standard operating procedure of how coaches think, but I think Gus is on a killer streak now and should get the start just to keep the train rolling.

So are we going to dig ourselves out of this hole? Going .500 or close the rest of the season is probably not going to be good—or good enough.

If Gus Bus is good they will. If the goaltending turns against they won't.

I think Gus Bus will continue to be good.

West in general is awful. 3 good teams. Maybe. Lot of trash.

By points percentage we are in 9th. Arizona isn't gonna hold up. Stl and cal have games in hand, and 1 point above but are terrible.

Yeah, i think we are going to end up in a familiar place, losing in the 1st round.

I see a losing streak on the horizon. They can't keep getting lucky like last night. Even with Faber doing his Ryan Suter in his prime imitation, this is not a good NHL defense.

I am loving that Rossi and Faber are legit though. Makes me feel much better about the future.
Yeah, Faber and Rossi in the NHL, Wallstedt in the AHL and Yurov in the KHL, all doing what they're doing. Sure, it would be nice to add a top 5 cherry on top of all of that, and we still might, but sometimes you're just not as bad as you think.

I mean, even with Zuccarello, Brodin and Spurgeon out, and playing our backup goalie, we still beat Boston in Boston. How many more good players do people want to take out of the lineup to ensure a bottom 5 finish?

Random thought but how good would Claude Giroux fit on this team?

Skimming through B's GDT, some of the posters wanted Maroon on their team as a tough guy, some even wanted Foligno. Some claimed to have wanted Foligno for a number of years now. Most people thought MAF was great, and I even read some who seemed to REALLY want Midds on their team.
Just thought that was funny, as many people here would do anything to get rid of those guys, except for maybe Midds.
But pretty please Foligno, they want you badly. Why not ask for a trade? ;)
