By God...let it be true! This is the "regression" to the "mean". I've always expected them to finish just high enough to lose in the first round and not get a true impact player in the draft.
But if Faber really can turn into an all situations top D and Rossi really can turn into a top line center and Wallstedt is the real deal goaliefield, this team may have the makings of a team that loses in the 2nd or even 3rd round once in a while.
Bottom six wing, and an injury fill in when guys in the top six get injuredHartman with 2 points in last 10 games. Rossi is here to stay and Evason is gone so we hopefully won’t see Hartman back at 1C ever again. I’ve never loved him in the bottom 6 because he takes too many penalties. If he’s not playing with 97 & 36, where do we see him fitting in longterm?
Hartman made a sneaky nice pass through the neutral zone last night to hit Dewar in stride into the Ozone that you could tell caught both Dewar and Duhaime by surprise. Plays like that could go a long way in building up our 4th liners into maybe something more as they get more and more comfortable together. A little bit of time there could pay big dividends.I thought Hartman was less effective than i thought he would be as a 4th liner, but I'll give him a bit of time to get used to playing with Duhaime and Dewar. On paper, that should be a good 4th. Speed, physicality, and a bit of offensive pop.
I see him the same as @AKL does. Decent bottom six RW with the proven ability to fill in at C. He does take the odd bad penalty, but I like having a couple of nasty players on the team, as long as they stay disciplined.
Hartman's position is his own doing, with all the nonsense and dirty play. As Russo said, now he has to start on the bottom and impress the new coach if he wants to climb the lineup and play more minutes.
He will be an expensive 4th liner ($4 million AAV) for the next 3 seasons if he doesn't improve his play.
I'm thinking we will have at least one expensive 4th liner no matter what, assuming some of our rookies start making a case for a spot in top 9.
Remains to be seen if it's going to be Foligno, Hartman or both.
Son of a #@$%!Gaudreau too, although he's not 4M expensive, 2.1M is still expensive for a fourth line
We may end up with the most expensive fourth line in NHL history if all of them are there
Kaprizov-Rossi-Khusnutdinov
Heidt-Yurov-Boldy
Ohgren-Ek-?
Foligno-Gaudreau-Hartman
He won't have much room to climb, since Rossi and Ek our essentially our #1 and #2 now. Hartman shouldn't sniff the top line again.Hartman's position is his own doing, with all the nonsense and dirty play. He could be 3rd line wing...Son of a #@$%!
Stupidly expensive 4th line.

Assuming a $92M cap; they’ll have $34.7M for Rossi, Wallstedt, Faber, Dewar, LD2, LD3, RD3, and extra skaters.2025-26
Khusnutdinov?-Yurov-Boldy
Kaprizov-Rossi-Zuccarello
Ohgren?-Ek-Hartman
Foligno-Dewar?-Gaudreau
That would be a strong lineup, depending on hat you do with the defense
true. Luckily for us we still have the Mojo & Hartman extensions to complain about now that Moose & Zucc are temporarily off the menuFoligno has quietly been really solid this year.
Dewar and Duhaime are averaging ~3 minutes less than the 9th highest forward in average 5v5 ice time.no such thing as a 4th line nowadays
I like Rossi & Faber with as much term as possible at around $5M. Some risk for both sides.Assuming a $92M cap; they’ll have $34.7M for Rossi, Wallstedt, Faber, Dewar, LD2, LD3, RD3, and extra skaters.
Wallstedt should be a cheap bridge, but no clue where Guerin is gonna go on Faber or Rossi’s contracts. They really need some of the defense prospects to make the jump soon, but I still think that’s the #1 position to target in FA.
Rossi is playing 1C and on pace for 53 points without meaningful PP time, Faber is playing 23+ minutes per night on the 1st pair and top PK, both have another season before their ELCs end, and the cap is jumping up significantly. 5m probably isn't even a real starting point for negotiating a bridge deal, much less anything with term.I like Rossi & Faber with as much term as possible at around $5M. Some risk for both sides.
Agree on blueline upgrade too. Let’s get Spurgeon a real partner for his golden years.
And what you do with all the new loot2025-26
Khusnutdinov?-Yurov-Boldy
Kaprizov-Rossi-Zuccarello
Ohgren?-Ek-Hartman
Foligno-Dewar?-Gaudreau

The Yurov/Rossi/Faver development this year has gone better than I could have ever imagined.Kind of crazy that with $14M+ in dead cap, we still might be in a position to go after a solid UFA ($4-$6 million range:
Kaprizov - Rossi - Zuccarello
Johansson - Yurov (ELC) - Boldy
Foligno - Eriksson Ek - Hartman
ELC (~$900k) - Dewar (?) - Gaudreau
13th F (~$750k)
Brodin - Faber
Middleton - Spurgeon
ELC (~$900k) - ?
Merrill
Gustavsson
Wallstedt
Let the 3 Iowa LD's (Lambos, ROR, Hunt) battle for the 3rd pair spot.
~$8M in space with only Dewar and a RD to sign. Dewar shouldn't get much more than ~$1.5M at most, so ~$6.5M for a defenseman should/could be a pretty legit player.
