Fine with the Bogosian thing. Doesn't seem like any of the Iowa defensemen are kicking at the NHL door yet.

If Spacek is good next year, he'll play when Spurgeon gets hurt.

Yeah generally I’m fine with it and even like the terms, I just don’t like the trend. He’s paying a premium for grit and experience (not in this case, but you know what I mean)

It's alright I guess. Much better than the Goligoski contract, and Merrill too.

GMBG has traded late picks for grit, but outside of Foligno and Hartman he hasn't signed gritty (UFA eligible) players.

Lettieri and Lucchini on put waivers today.

That Bogosian doesnt get a NMC is the most important part. Given that there's basically no risk at all wrt the cap because the team could always bury almost all of his contract in the AHL if needed (1.125 of the 1.25 I believe).

He's also not 35 yet at the time of the extension so that rule doesnt apply either.

Cozens, Hughes, and Seider for sure. There are a couple others it would be a tossup with. There are lots of disappointments from that draft class so far.
Not Cozens, for me. I like him, but Boldy has 1st line, elite skill, while Cozens is more of a Swiss Army Knife, 2nd line guy, for me.

Phew. Thought we might try and get younger for a second there. Can’t do that. https://twitter.com/darrendreger/status/1765132765555482769?s=46&t=EA5Zx4v_RgCObXBmjJezZg
Gotta nail down those guys in their 30's.

Kap is 1st line elite skill. Boldy is not.

The NTC/NMCs have been my biggest thorn with BG so I'm hoping this shows he learned ... because I felt like Bogosian falls into the boys club territory and would have got a Merrill (3 year NTC) deal...

Boldy has elite skills, even if he's not quite an elite level player yet. His biggest flaw is the consistency in scoring moreso than his tools. I don't think Cozens has the same skillset Boldy has. That's the difference. Kaprizov is on a completely different level. Boldy is a first line caliber player, Kaprizov is first line++.

FJo was way more absurd of a pick IMO.
FJo is the most like Stramel in that neither should have been 1st rounders in the first place. Thelen actually had production that made sense leading up to the draft, just showed how crazy and undedicated he was immediately after.

I guess Gillies could also fit... but I do recall him being considered a late 1st rounder prior to the draft.

Gillies wins. Got picked just because Johnsson got punched in the face.

Gillies is immediately disqualified from this competition given that he actually improved after his draft year and still made the Canadian U20 team. Stramel has been going backwards for two years now.

Part of me expects Bogosian to sprain his wrist after putting the final flourishes on his contract signature, but in general, i'm ok with the deal. He's big, somewhat physical, still has decent wheels, still has some of the qualities that made him a top draft pick. So what if he doesn't always make the right play? 1.25M for a RHD that can play a bit, likes it here, with no trade protection...I'm good with it.
Sort of surprised that he didn't ask for more, but looking back on his past contracts he has made a lot of $$, so maybe quality of life took precedence over getting another M or two.

There’s decent opportunity here also. He’s likely to be paired with Chisholm next year and not some 7/8 plug

There's a half dozen busts and like 4-5 decent players in the 15 picks after FJo, nobody spectacular. I think the group behind Stramel will be noticeably better.

Bad take. It’s understandable to be annoyed with Boldy’s game at times, but the skill is very high end. Absolutely has first line skill.

I didn't say Boldy didn't have skill. He does, but it's not elite. Kap has elite skill and would be a comparison for Hughes in that draft class.

And the Wild are lighting up the league?

Mitts is leading BUF with 47p...

I was comparing Boldy to Cozens, and their relative puck skill levels. The rest is semantics. Boldy has rare skill, IMO.

Cozens had the same amount of goals as Boldy last year and had more assists. The difference is Boldy is on a line that caught fire and he put up 11p in 5 games and MN has a much better PP. It's too bad Quinn got hurt (again) because the JJP/Cozens/Quinn line was starting to figure things out.

It seems you're conflating point production with elite skill and then simultaneously using it against Boldy when he produces at an elite level when he plays with other good players.

Boldy has the toolkit to be an elite winger in this league, whether he puts it all together at some point is relatively up in the air. I could see him producing some 90 point seasons if he finds the consistency (part of which is going to be good consistent linemates). I don't see that same upside with Cozens. I think that's what people are getting at.

Boldy has almost as many points as Cozens despite playing in 77 fewer games. He's had the better career by far to this point.

Cozens is the 3rd highest paid guy on the team. He's making almost triple Mittlestadt salary. Isn't Buffalo's inability to score on him? You said Cozens is better for sure. I don't even think Buffalo fans would agree with you on that

Buffalo decided to try and defend this year. Last year they all played pond-hockey and put up career numbers. Boldy is on a different level offensively. Not even really a debate. Only Stutzle & J.Hughes are as prolific as U23 scorers

I'd take him over Boldy for sure. BUF is just a mess (lots of injuries) this year all around and nobody is doing well.

Boldy has a career p/gp at .83, Cozens is at .60.

Cozens does play the more premium position of center, but I think Boldy is still the better player.
