Minnesota Wild General Discussion - 2022-23

Do you seriously think every single player that stays in the NHL was fully developed before they got there? To say you can't develop in the NHL is a MASSIVE fallacy. Learning happens at every league and at every level. Putting him on the wing could do more harm than good if we want him to be a center. Patience is a virtue.
Putting him at wing would simplify things. Minnesota already has enough centers that are tweeners like Gaudreau, Steel, Jost, Shaw, Dewar. The only one that has done anything is Eriksson-Ek. Rossi isn't producing plain and simple. Either he needs to be sent down or they need to come up with a game plan, because right now even Filip freaking Gustavsson is producing more points than him. And when push comes to shove, you can do everything right, but if you aren't producing points, there isn't much of a career for you unless you can punch faces.

Also, no you don't need them to be fully developed, but you look at guys like Duhaime and Shaw and see that they spent their time in the AHL and don't look so massively out of place in the NHL. They need to refine things, but they provide at least some offense and other abilities.

Patience would be a virtue if this team wasn't also aiming for the playoffs.

His game doesn't need to be simplified. He's not out of his element, he's just snake bit, which happens. Patience is a virtue for rookies, playoffs or not. It's been 10 games, calm down.

10 games is still enough to send him down. That's 1/8 of the season or 12.5% of the season. How much more are we going to keep saying, he needs more times? 20 games? 30 games? the entire season?

Not up to me or anyone here, but if you want to go ask the staff that, be my guest.

It's not like anyone better is going to take his spot with the injuries we have.

If we're just going to play a bunch of mediocre/average bottom six guys anyway, why not favor the one that might become a top 6 center someday?

Jesus Christ. The kid has played 12 NHL games after losing a year with COVID and you're giving up on him? Rossi has made no mistakes on a regular basis like Dumba so far and that's great when you think about how Dean has handled the kid the first 4 games, destroying his preseason confidence.

Yes, I'd rather see him in the AHL at the moment, playing on the top line and on the first PP Unit. just keep in mind that Rossi has lost one year to develop because of COVID. On the other hand: With so many bodies out due injury (IMO half of the wild forwards on the team right now are potential AHL Players at best to be honest): What better options do the Wild have got at center than Rossi?

I'd say play the kid as long as there are so many injuries and as long as he isn't a flaw of the team. Which he isn't right now. Rossi is not the reason why the overall defensive play of the team is so horrible, I'd blame other players before I throw the rookie in front of the bus.

Hmm...Rossi has only 7 shots on goal in 10 games, and the one point. Hopefully it gets better, but this doesn't look promising for the future.

I don’t see Rossi’s play to this point being anywhere near the radar of concerns to this point. He’s not ready to be a driver at this level yet and expecting him to do so wasn’t realistic.

They’ve got much larger issues like thinking that Gaudreau should be anywhere near lines that you absolutely need to be productive. Or a defensive corps that struggles to grasp that you may have to put a body on someone at some point. Injuries piling up to that you are needing production from players you elevated from the fourth line or Iowa. Goaltending that’s been in and out at best or flat losing you games several times this year already. Or a coaching staff that has a several year long grapple to understand basic concepts of what makes a successful PK.

Rossi taking off would be a pleasant surprise but I don’t know how you go into the year needing it.

Gaudreau is on the top line to cover 97 & 36, defensive play is fine now. There's no better option up there right now. Hartman has been a disaster this season, making a lot of mistakes including that fight where he got owned and injured long term.

Like Zuccarello, who at the age of 21 had zero NHL points. At 22yo, too for that matter.

He only needs to look at #36. 4 points in his first 10 games at 23 years old. Still saw AHL time at 24 years old, and wasn't really an impact player until 26.

There's still plenty of time. I'm sure Zucc has been already told him, being a great leader/mentor and all.
