Worlds smallest sample size, but Greenway’s first two shifts looked pretty great. Thankfully he’s been able to skate the whole time for conditioning, but may take a bit for his hands to catch up, especially the shot.
Game timing usually takes a while. Even the transition from preseason to regular is a thing, nvm the long layoff and injury. My hopes are not high, but at least he is playing with two really, really good players. there is a slight possibility that this becomes a legit 2nd line, in which case, Foligno and Hartman(and Duhaime.) can be sprinkled around the bottom six to bulk them up.

Leaves Rossi out in the cold a bit with no true skill players, but he'll have to manage.

I say trade Rossi. I dont think hes gonna develop into the player that everyone thinks.

I feel a little sorry for Rossi. It doesn't look like he has fun out there, he looks slow and confused, flat out scared. I wonder if he's worried about that heart problem he had after covid. Not easy to forget about that, even if docs told him it's nothing to worry about.

Expectations were enormous. It's also an unfair spot to put the kid in because this organization has been looking for a 1C for 23 years and he might be the first. Doesn't mean he should be traded though. We still need centers.

Not even close to the same thing.
He's being bounced up and down the lineup, but his teammates have been regularly 4th line guys. He's had a few games with Boldy and Foligno, but for the most part Evason likes sticking him on the bottom 6. He needs to head back to the AHL and work on a few things.

Rossi’s most common line is with Foligno and Boldy. It’s not like there are great options to play with outside of Kap-Zucc-Boldy.

By my very rough estimate he has something like 47 minutes with Boldy, 6.5 with Kaprizov, and like 33-34 with the spare parts/clones/bottom six (even-strength), so it's definitely not for lack of opportunity so far.

I still think he's showing improvement, which is what you look for, and definitely don't think he should be sent down. Keep getting him minutes where you can but he also needs to show more, and I don't think the AHL will help him, other than maybe getting some confidence back, maybe?

The only reason to send Rossi down (not right now...too many bodies out) is if they feel it will be better for his development. Would be curious to see him on a line with Walker, and maybe Beckman, but that's a minor thing.

Rossi is just a baby, relatively speaking. Expecting him to come into the NHL fully formed, and playing like a polished top 6'er right away is ridiculous. I think he is ok so far. Needs to get faster in both reaction time, and with his feet, but otherwise, I don't see that he is a problem. He tries to make an extra move when he has the puck sometimes. That might've worked for him in the AHL, but won't in the NHL, at least the way he he is doing it. That's ok with me...I'd rather see him trying to make plays with the puck than dumping it, or making hot potato passes.

As I've said before, i don't see much of a difference between him, Steel, and Jost. Jost and Steel, however, are 4 years older, and the potential for them to get better is limited, at best. They have played over 350, and 200 games respectively.

Rossi is 4 years younger, and has played 12 games. If i'm betting on any player out of the three to be better, it's Rossi, and by a long shot. I'd rather invest my time and resources in developing him, not tearing him down because he's not Matt Boldy right at the get go.

Why play a guy we would like to develop as a #1 center on the wing?
To acclimate to the NHL without having to worry about assignments.

And why are the Wild trying to develop players in the NHL? They should be in the AHL. The NHL is not a development league. Rossi had a decent year in the AHL, but nothing extraordinary. He needs at least another year. This is the Granlund situation all over again.

Do you seriously think every single player that stays in the NHL was fully developed before they got there? To say you can't develop in the NHL is a MASSIVE fallacy. Learning happens at every league and at every level. Putting him on the wing could do more harm than good if we want him to be a center. Patience is a virtue.
