I think Duhaime is going to have a great year, contract season and it looks like he had a productive off season. He reminds me a bit of early Hartman where he gets the chances but can’t bury them. His shot looks improved and conditioning is excellent, our 4th line can roll some talent this year, depth scoring could go a long way to replacing Fiala’s production.
He's also one of the few players with some size, strength, and bite to his game. I can't think of a viable NHL forward prospect/young player we have that has that pkg. Shaw's got the attitude, but he's 5'8". Dewar is tough in his own way, but again, undersized. Chaffee's got the body, but he doesn't really use it. Jost and Steel aren't scaring anyone out there. Beckman needs to bulk up a whole lot before he can even think about being a physical player.
Walker - no. Haven't seen Hentges do it, either.
Petrovosky looks small.

Maybe Milne? If he can skate and check, he might have a place on the team in a year or two as a low AAV 4th line guy.

i was going to ask what "skills" are posters here able to identify that pro nhl team scouts aren't? i was going to call BS but i'll move on (next subject)

Russo thinks (in his article) that the lineup on opening night will look like this...

Kaprizov-Hartman-Zuccarello
Jost-Eriksson Ek-Foligno
Gaudreau-Steel-Boldy
Dewar-Rossi-Duhaime

Brodin-Spurgeon
Middleton-Dumba
Goligoski-Addison

Extras: Petan and Sustr
Goalies: Fleury and Gustavsson
Injured: Greenway and Merrill

I guess some fans won't like Rossi on the 4th line. But it makes sense because Rossi is a rookie and Steel has 150 NHL games. Probably same reason they don't have Rossi and Boldy together.

That might be where Rossi starts the season, but he will move up. Plus he will be on a PP unit.

Good thing what "Russo thinks will happen" rarely does. The guy is terrible at speculation.

It was based on the NHL group they created yesterday, then went with those lines. Russo asked Evason if this could be the final lineup, and Evason said "sure"....whatever this means.

It's a way to answer the question, without really answering the question

Rossi will be injured by game 10. Deploying him in that manner is so perfectly Minnesota that I can’t believe they would do anything else lol. This reality has to be a simulation designed to trigger me.

Wha?

You think putting our shiny new super skilled but diminutive center of the future into a 4th line grinder role with a bunch of plugs skating against another teams plugs is a good plan???

I think Russo has a pretty good feel of Evasons mood - whether we agree with Evasons choices is another thing. He has a pretty good finger on Evasons pulse.

Plus his predictions have logic behind it if you take consider Evasons tendencies.
Having the pulse of someone who generally does nothing isn't all that tough.
That still doesn't mean Dean saying "sure" means anything... and Russo's track record of speculation is still pretty terrible.

The Athletic is revealing their team projections for the season in reverse order of regular season finish. Carolina was 8 and Tampa Bay was 7. Wild are top 6.

Their analytical model just really likes Wild. Didn't it give us 75% odds of beating St. Louis in the playoffs?

I guess it's not that outlandish since Wild did place top 5 in the actual standings last year. But one would think losing Fiala would at least knock us a few spots further down.

I agree, we know Evason. Rossi will not replace Hartman or Ek if things go well up there. Rossi may have a chance on the 3rd line if Steel slows down.

Guerin also made it clear that no player will be given anything for free around here, you will have to earn your ice time. Depth chart is very deep, and that's a good thing for the competition between players.
