This is funny. We all know about the Zucc & Kap chemistry, actually the 2nd best duo in the league last season. Still you want to split them up so that an inexperienced kid can play on the top line?

I like the black alternates as well. I’d pick a Kaprizov one up.

Well we still don't know what the real ones look like, those are just mocks of that persons take on it.

Completely agree with you, I don't want Spurgeon on the PP at all. Let him and Brodin eat up ES and PK minutes.

If it were up to me I would run:

Kaprizov-Ek-Zuccarello-Jost
Goligoski/Dumba

Boldy-Rossi-Hartman-Steel
Addison
i dont have an issue with either of those. i mean i dislike goli being on the team but he is here and he has decent offensive instincts. if it works go for it but id much rather have dumba out there.

1000% yes, break it up. We saw enough chemistry between Kap and Boldy in the limited time last season and it is enough for me to swap Zucc and Boldy. you already said Zucc can mentor the younger kids, so lets do it.

Rossi with Zuccs would be interesting. Would need another shooter on that line.

shockingly, Firstov looks like he might but outside of that no. we dont.

Those two names don't fill me with a lot of confidence. We'll see how a full season does for Firstov and we'll see if Beckman can build on his rookie season.

This is my biggest issue with this year's draft. We'll see if Yurov becomes a 'dynamic' player like Kaprizov, but for the most part Minnesota has shied away from guys like Jagger Firkus, who are sort of selfish and shoot first. Kemell would have been a fantastic pick.

I didn't know your confidence was a stipulation of the question you presented. Next time, ask us what players the Wild have drafted that fill you with confidence?

I don't really understand the fixation or fascination with "shoot first players". If you'd consider Zucker a shoot first guy, and Kaprizov not a shoot first guy, I know which one I'd rather have.

Good players are good players and can score without a "shoot first" mentality. I get wanting to draft guys who are good at shooting, for sure, but I don't understand why we need to draft guys who always want to shoot the puck regardless of situation.

If Beckman and Firstov are the guys we consider snipers - yeah...Firstov only had 26 goals in college and 0 in the AHL (though 8 games played). Beckman only had 11 goals last season. Those are the shoot first guys?

This is exactly why you draft the best players on the board and not "shoot first guys"

If we have a ton of playmakers they need to feed someone. That’s the thought process behind it, it’s not an absolute need but it is a good asset to have

A good shot is a good asset to have, but you can score goals without a shoot first mentality. Boldy isn't someone I'd describe as shoot first, and he will be a 30 goal scorer at some point. Kaprizov is not a guy I'd consider shoot first, and he could score 50 one year. Rossi is being considered a playmaker in this conversation, but he scored almost 40 goals in the OHL and would have had 20 last year in the AHL had he not been injured.

That's what I'm trying to get at. Good or great players won't have trouble scoring enough goals just by being good players and playing with other good players. We shouldn't be focusing on acquiring guys whose primary asset is taking shots in any situation. That's precisely why a guy like Sokolov busted, and why Beckman is having a harder time adjusting to a pro game coming out of juniors. That's why Zucker was never all that valuable.

Having a good shot and knowing when to use it is great, but it's arguably more important to be able to pass up on taking a shot, knowing when the appropriate time to do that is, and being able to execute a pass to a linemate. Guys kill a lot of plays by taking a bad shot because that's all they're focused on.

In simpler terms, I'd rather have guys like Kaprizov, Boldy, Rossi who can drive play and dictate the pace over guys who just want to shoot everything all the time.

Is anyone else a little excited to see what Steel has to offer?

He seems to have some chemistry with Boldy and Jost. That may end up as a good skilled line.
Yep. I think he and Jost have so much to prove this year. My expectations are low, but I hope they both bring it this season
Can't wait for it to start, f***ing love the freshness of a new season

Who exactly is the prototypical shoot first person? Ovechkin, Matthews, and Laine?

Ek had more goals than assists the last two seasons. Does that make him shoot first?
