NHL 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

We just dumped a bunch of good character guys (extremely happy about it). Im sure we can find a guy at the top of the draft that's offensively talented and still calls his mother.

DS scares the shit out of me that's why we need to win the lottery, take his choices away. Can't trust his scouting staff either until they prove otherwise.

They will F this up again

Win the first pick, take the d man and go home. The fact he's scouting O'Brien personally tells me we are moving back in the draft it we end up out of the top 5.
He needs to do his due-diligence on every top prospect, so I have no problem with him scouting any of them, after all what else does he have to do right now.

We as fans also have no idea whats on the table, what offers can come in from other teams. Sweeney needs to be prepared, so I have no problem at all with him scouting prospects. Now if he comes away with a top 4 pick and chooses O'Brien or a McQueen, yes bring out the noose's, and he scares the shit out of me on what he actually do this summer as well..

I can see O'Brien being this year's Sennecke to someone.

Can someone explain why we’re mad Sweeney is scouting players expected to be drafted around where the Bruins will probably be picking?
I’d rather him be prepared for the 95% chance the Bruins don’t win the lottery.
This isn’t tunnel vision for certain players, this is doing his diligence to try and avoid another Zboril.

Because we have a history of making off the board picks, so yeah, I get nervous. Who wants to deny that fact? There’s a reason we study History….

Ok, but I’m nervous. Can’t a man be nervous? Just want a top 5 consensus pick that isn’t a “project”, or “a good human being”, or “defensively sound” or whatever else is code for can’t play hockey and will take 4 years to make the AHL.
Well, the highest likelihood is that we won’t get a top five pick. So our GM needs to evaluate guys in the CONSENSUS 6-15 range. Like McQueen and O’Brien, especially considering that they are centermen.

What's your take on Misa's playoff performance?
Not worried at all. He has been a beast in previous playoffs and the Memorial Cup. I look at Zayne Parekh and his +/- with Saginaw in these playoffs.

You also have to consider their number one goaltender Andrew Oke (who I am sure you remember) didn't play a single game these playoffs and had to rely on basically a rookie who posted a 5.78 GAA and
.831 save%. Erie had no business winning anything more than 2 games in the series, let alone win the series.

Saginaw had two elite players at this level with Parekh and Misa. Yet the goaltending let them down. It is what it is and I am sure to those that matter, this playoff won't have any affect in their decisions.

Posted this is another thread but probably belongs here:
"M. Schaefer if you get #1, people seem to forget we also don't have a true #1 D man ... argue all you want but C. Mac isn't one because he can't run a powerplay."

I'm not against Misa but still think Schaefer is more impactful.

The issue for me is there’s only one way to get a true 1C, and this is it. Benefit of hindsight Makar doesn’t go four and Hughes doesn’t go 7. But it’s really hard for this team to pass on a center at the top of the draft. Most likely going to be a moot point anyway. But as a theoretical exercise I’d be agonizing over Hagens v Schaefer right now if it got to that. Misa is a no brainer.

No it's not. You take the best player, End of story.

I still thank the hockey gods that I don't have to watch Brady Tkachuk in a Habs sweater because they decided to go positional need. Imagine if they had gone with Michkov instead of the right-shot D, and added him to their collection of good young forwards being quaterbacked by Hutson.

They thought Michkov was staying in Russia longer guaranteed.

It’s not that simplistic, not when there isn’t some clear cut defenseman who is well above any other options. Given how close they are, and same goes for Martone, you take a center because there’s only one way to get one.

It’s possible they draft #8 so let’s not worry too much.
Nope, we need to worry with Sweeney, He loves being the smartest guy in the room, in his mind, so they may draft 2nd overall and he'll take O'Brien. I'm still hoping he gets canned when the season ends

Why do you want your GM to be dumber than he should be? Would you turn down a GM candidate because he’s too smart?
