TREAT, NOT TRICK FOR NEW YORK RANGERS

The Rangers shook the hockey world tonight, signing five players off the free agent market, including snipers Alexander Semin and Jason Pominville, and young talent such as Tyler Ennis, Justin Faulk, and Brett Connolly.

In a conference call tonight, GM BigBenSF stated, "It was obvious going in that New York was going to make a large splash in free agency. Going in we traded some of our most expensive players - and we received some great players from those trades as well - but we wanted to get enough space so we could go out and do this."

He also stated that he needs a bit of time to get his roster sorted out but reported that a couple of big name players will be placed on the trade block.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are happy to announce that we have come to contract with the following:

Jake Gardiner D, ($3.000m)
Valterri Filpulla LW/C, ($2.500m)
Antoine Vermette C, ($1.000m)
Drew Stafford RW, ($1.000m)
Joni Pitkanen D, ($1.000m)

5, quality hockey players for a whopping $8.500m. While it was certainly enticing to throw a huge contract for one player, we are very happy to be adding some tremendous depth.

In more interesting news, Tayler Hall has been named captain of the Edmonton Oilers.

"It is truly an honour, with guys like Boyler and Hank on the team....but they will be leading us in a alot of ways regardless, I think"

On a related note, two other career Oilers have been named alternate captains; Ales Hemsky and Sam Gagner.

Taking offers on:

- Chris Kunitz
- Matt Cooke
- Craig Adams
- Tanner Glass
- Matt Niskanen

Will package a few guys (for teams lacking grit or depth) for a better player. Will take a decent prospect for Cooke, Adams or Glass.

An update

Sorry guys, I have done much of anything today. I plan to start an AHL draft thread tonight, and hopefully do some of my own stuff here (like update my roster, figure out cap..)

It probably won't be until later tonight, but its coming

:nhl TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

- Jeff Carter

- Brandon Sutter
- Simon Depres

The Pittsburgh Penguins are happy to announce that we have acquired Jeff Carter from the New York Rangers in exchange for young center Brandon Sutter and defensive prospect, Simon Depres. It was a tough price to pay in trading these 2 young talented players. But we feel that, after our free agent signings of Val Filppula, and Antoine Vermette, that Brandon got pushed down the depth chart. Jake Gardiner is a tremendous young defender who is playing top 4 minutes in the NHL currently, and his signing meant Depres would be stuck in juniors for another year.

In Jeff Carter we are thrilled to add a natural goal scorer who will feast off passes from Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane. Jeff is also a recent cup winner, and we love players with playoff experience.

NYR confirms. We pick up a younger, better two-way player with a smaller cap hit plus a top prospect that is NHL-ready. We are very excited to see Brandon and Simon on the ice come hockey season.

This is my 3rd, 4th, and 5th line. I am insanely deep at forward, particularly center. If you are interested, let me know. I really don't want to move my top 6 wingers, and Giroux/Thornton/Lecavalier won't be traded. Looking for Dmen better than Sbisa or Josi (willing to package one of my D+one of my forwards).

I cannot remember if I asked this or not... please resend your AHL rosters. So far I have only 1 set, well 2 including myself, and its tough to post an update. If you sent AHL offers prior to the close of UFA's, please resend.
