Eh. Personally, since his injury, I don’t think Suter has been the same. I noticed a pet significant step back this year in his play. It will only get worse.
I feel he’s living off his reputation of what he was, not what he currently is. At best he’sa second pair defender, IMHO.
He never really hit a second gear in the playoffs which was disappointing

Could Guerin be looking at getting and taking a chance on Eichel? If he feels Kaprizov isn’t going to stay with MIN anyways why not use him as the main piece to try and get Eichel?

It’s a gamble either way but he’ll have Eichel for 5 years with a good young core as well as Dumba. If he doesn’t want to deal with the Kaprizov situation this is what he may have in mind.

I love the creativity, but there’s no way Buffalo has an easy time signing Kaprizov. Now, they could turn around and flip him for more assets, but that seems roundabout.

It's really not hard to figure out. There's been a changing of the guard under Guerin, and it seemed overdue. That team was fun to watch this year, and these moves are just the continuation of whats been a successful plan so far. They only get big cap relief this year, so thats why it happened this year. They wouldnt have gotten the relief next year and this year they have to sign Karprizov and Fiala, as well as the expansion issues. Sure Suter hasnt fallen off that bad but it was inevitable that this had to happen so good that it happened now and allows them to keep the newer part of the team together.

Letting diminishing assets stay with the team, keeping spots away from the future doesnt make any sense. Everyone would be just waiting for this to happen anyways. Good for them for doing it now. Yes they will have the big cap hits but they wouldve had them anyways with these two on the payroll, only they would be two years older and still in the way. I think Guerin is doing a good job of turning what he inherited into a younger more exciting team. These contracts were going to hurt them no matter what.

I think Buffalo, if having Kaprizov, would know he’d rather play in a bigger market team like LA, Ana, NYR and could actually get a top prospect they want with a Kaprizov rather than Eichel.

Nothing is for sure right now on the Wild's side of things. Yet If Kaprizov were to be traded I would assume it's for futures( Draft Picks/ Young ELC Players) Doubtfully Eichel with his cap hit /Injuries. I could see many team's lining up and paying a lot to get Kaprizov.

So theres basically no savings in years 2-4? So WTF is this about? They want to add a big UFA on a 1 year contract and then regress into cap hell? Theres no escaping these buyout hits now. At least with Suter they might have had a chance to do something. This is bad.

I assume they attempt to go for it this year and then rebuild if they fail. It’s the only thing that makes any sense. No one is competing with that much dead cap in years 2/3/4. Get the young guns to decent bridge deals that will be very valuable trade bait.

The Wild just effectively added around $8MM of cap space during the flat cap, Guerin just opened up a very wide range of possibilities. There are a lot of teams with difficult cap decisions this offseason.
Unless they’re going all-in for the Cup this upcoming season, I don’t really see much of a benefit cap-wise.

I guess they can keep Dumba for now.

The only reason why I think they would buy them out instead of trying to trade Suter at 50% retained is because of the cap pen that they would get if they decided to retire?

I see Greenway is a RFA when they have 12m in deadcap.. Wonder if someone offer sheets him knowing the Wild will be in a pickle.
