Can't imagine the level of tears and *****ing that's going to occur on the mainboard if the settlement occurs and the Kings end up with a negligible cap hit. All the psuedo-lawyers and Macramellaites will be up in arms.

It will be interesting to see how this possible settlement effects our cap , not for this year, but the number of years afterwards. Could mean the difference in signing several key UFA' and RA's.

Mike Richards has the chance to leave the Kings with class, he was always know as a team first player and I wonder if that will carry over to a sweetheart settlement agreement. Don't forget, most settlements come with a confidentiality agreement so we may never know much more than we know now.

They'll be a confidentiality agreement without question.

And people keep saying this sets a bad precedent--no way. How many contracts get bought out or terminated? Of those, how many are simply for poor performance rather than whatever the hell is going on with Richards (legal issues--but is that all?)? NHL has to sign off on them so it's not like people are going to go around setting fire to contracts.

I think the number of parties and possible motivations in this whole thing make it interesting and more convoluted then anything we've seen in a long time.

- Richards: probably just wants as much $ as he can obtain, secondary priority of continuing an NHL career.

- Kings: would like Richard contract gone with the minimal possible ongoing cap hit, and secondary priority minimal payments to Richards.

- NHL PA: first priority of not allowing contracts to be terminated for any reason. Secondary priority of not allowing contracts to be terminated for less then the negotiated buyout clauses. Third priority that Richards gets the most amount of $ so long as it aligns with the first two priorities.

- NHL: priorities uncertain. I think the NHL would like the idea of guaranteed contracts being a little less guaranteed. Uncertain on how the NHL would prioritize treatment of a potential Richards cap hit in a settlement--and keep in mind it will require PA agreement if the cap hit doesn't follow from the existing CBA.

Ok someone run by how this settlement works out? I thought it was full contract, termination, and Buyout as the three options...:help:

Because of a cash settlement, they withdraw their grievance against the termination. I would have gone with the cement shoes option if I were dictator.

pro fisherman would be my guess

Ahh, Gotcha! Thought how is a settlement no different than a buyout (that doesn't effect the cap?). Seems rather like a grey area to me.

I wonder what the hell happens to Mike Richards' playing career after this. Is he done like Penner?

TO will throw a 1 year deal at him in case they are able to flip him at the deadline. Lets face it, Richards is probably an upgrade for the Leafs.

Are there still King fans who would be afraid to face Mike Richards if he signs with another WC team knowing what they know as of today?
