Then I guess he's on his way back. Strange to have him miss 3 Monarch games for a couple of days of testing- missing the 3 games couldn't have improved his conditioning. Kinda mysterious as to what's going on.

Wait... now you're telling me Richards has been a scratch for the last 3 Monarchs games? How bad do you have to be to get scratched in the AHL? :sarcasm:

Would it be too crazy to think next year the Kings could have Weal and Shore as the #3 and #4 centers?

Depending on what happens with the cap and defense, I wouldn't put it out of the range of possibilities that Lombardi would entertain.... Could also run Lewis at C.

I have everything I own crossed and always have that Richards would be back playing with us and doing so in a fashion that makes him and everyone else happy. I think he will and believe in him as a person and a player. IF his career has hit a critical snag that keeps him out of the NHL it won't be for lack of effort on his part. I agree with what Kopi and Carter said about how important Richards is in the locker room. Here is to hoping that it works out best for everyone.

I don't see it to start the year..if there is an injury or something I could see weal being called up during the year
I actually think that Weal will be the prospect packaged with Richards in a deal

What did they say and when?

What did they say and when?

Carter said it in a post game interview but I am not certain which one. I think he was player of the game but it was within the past couple of weeks. Something to the effect of how important Richards is to the leadership/locker room of the team and how they all hope he is back with the team soon and Kopitar mirrored those sentiments a game later during an interview. Someone else will have to help me out with posting the media as I can't but I remember both of them saying what they said. Sorry I can't give specifics. I thought this was common knowledge.

No problem, I thought they might have said it right after he was sent down.

It was after he was sent down I am just not certain exactly when. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. I watch a ton of hockey shows both US and CA so I get them mixed up but I am certain both of them said what they did and it was after MR was sent down. I thought I was supposed to become wiser as I got older.

Haha, no worries. This makes sense since players don't usually talk about a departed teammate so long after they're gone.

Weal hasn't played a single game in the NHL and some of you think Lombardi will pencil him into the 3C? With sophomore Shore at 4C? No way.

3C next year will be one of Richards, Shore, or Lewis.

“We’re running him through some tests right now,†Lombardi said. “I mean, the one thing about Michael everybody knows, when there’s big games or critical moments, he’s always there. And we just gotta get him up to that capacity to be able to do that…

“But there’s very much a possibility he’ll be back.â€

I think we all sort of thought this was possible. As well as Shore has progressed , our 3rd/4th line lacks that playoff experienced center. I'd feel more comfortable with Richards out there than Shore.

Shore is fine, Stoll is the problem. Replace him with Richards, and Richards will likely be the problem.

With that said, there is no chance Weal and Shore are both the bottom 6 centers going into next year. I think Weal will likely be dealt at the draft

Probably won't see Richards till the playoffs (if the Kings make it). No cap issues, roster issues, once the playoffs begin.

I wonder if they'll try Weal at wing

I am hoping that the Kings will give him a look at the wing. With Toffoli and Pearson coming off their ELCs the Kings are going to need a couple of good young players on ELCs next season at the forward positions.

I still look for Dean to go out and acquire a #3 center via trade (most likely IMO), or via the UFA market during the summer. He can't afford to take a risk at that position not producing again next season.

Depends on Stoll's injury, but you have to think he'll be back. Richards isn't the biggest of guys, and he isn't the most physical after his concussions, but he can handle the opposition a lot better than Shore can, is more offensively gifted, and wouldn't be that much more of a defensive liability. If the Kings find themselves in a playoff position, I find it very hard to believe they'll keep Richards in Manchester, especially given that fact that he is playing well down there.

The reason Richards was sent down instead of someone like Stoll who also isn't having a good season is Richards was a defensive liability while playing weak competition on the 4th line.

Have you seen Stoll play recently?

Yes even recent Stoll's defense is better than where Richards was at when he was sent down. Stoll is still logs a lot of pk minutes.

His pk minutes have declined as well.

Stoll's defense hasn't been any better than Richards lately and is a black hole on offensive side. Stats and eye test show he has been horrible on both ends.

But face offs? He no longer is no 1 on the Kings, and is behind Carter and kopitar.

People blamed Richards decline on his conditioning, what's stoll's excuse?
