Mike Richards IV: Started From The Bottom, Still Here *MOD WARNING Post #194*

Interview with Darryl Sutter this morning:
"On whether he spoke to Mike Richards while he was at the facility:
No. It’s not my department. Any information that you can gather, you won’t gather it through me."

Wow, just wow! Not even a hello while crossing each other in the hallway? It's "not your department" to talk to a player (any player) within the organization? This is really puzzling. Context is everything but there sure seems to be something ill between coach and Richards, whatever it is.

It's none of anyone business if Sutter talked to him or not. Sutter doesn't have to tell the media everything that goes on inside the Kings organization. That's basically what Sutter is hinting at.

His pk minutes have declined as well.

Stoll's defense hasn't been any better than Richards lately and is a black hole on offensive side. Stats and eye test show he has been horrible on both ends.

But face offs? He no longer is no 1 on the Kings, and is behind Carter and kopitar.

People blamed Richards decline on his conditioning, what's stoll's excuse?

Concussions, arthritis, seizures. Stoll has more excuses than Richards.

i think you maybe reading too much into sutter's comments. Sutter plays with the media, he knows that if he says yes there he will then have to answer a longer series of comments.
So he gives the media very little at times

I agree but to respond "it's not my department" seems a little out there. He could have easily said "we said hello; didn't have time for anything else" and left it at that. Sutter often acts the fool but can also be a bit of a jerk at times.

I know in Calgary the media got sick of him

It's better to say "Haven't seen the guy". That eliminates any further questioning.

I bet the feeling was mutual. Sutter is in a good spot with LA media not paying much attention to hockey.

Sutter likely has input to which players are available for him to use in the lineup, but I doubt that he makes the final decision. That decision as well as strength and conditioning are not his departments.

Also, the Kings usually don't allow injured players, or players that are not currently on the roster to be around the other players that are on the roster.

That leaves arthritis as the excuse, as Richards had his bell rung as well (pretty bad too). Stoll's seizures are unknown if they are a symptom of the concussions. Plus I might be wrong but the seizures shouldn't Impact his on ice game (if they were any problem he wouldn't have played this season).

Arthritis might be the reason why he can't keep on any part of the ice. I don't hate Stoll, but to say he isn't hurting the club Right now, I would respectfully disagree.

Stoll hasn't been playing great, but Richards is not the answer for that problem.

IIRC Stoll had arthritis in his wrists. Pretty much the worst place for him. I don't hate Stoll either but it's time to move on.

Thanks, Didn't know it was in his wrists....so I can't explain where his speed or even first step went.

Agreed ,time to move on.

Meh, nothing to see here. Just Sutter being Sutter and knowing how to shut down further questioning.

whats his excuse for taking bonehead penalties almost every game?

Stoll takes a lot of penalties because he is consistently behind the play, even in the offensive zone. Stoll reaches a lot while trying to be physical, that is going to cause a lot of penalties for him.

This is exactly the problem. Somewhere down the line he lost his first step and top end speed.

Richards lost his first step as well but personally I would take his instincts over Stoll right now.

my tin hat theory is that Richards is in LA to put him on a plan to get him up to speed for the playoffs. This will make or break his career as a King. Some might not like it but it could pay dividends if he wakes up from the fog.

One can only hope that this is the case. If Richards problem was truly conditioning, then it should show if/when he is recalled. It's a risk, because if he comes back up and it's more of the same, his value will bottom out.

As bad as Richards was playing, he still produced more offense than Stoll and Shore combined. He could potentially give the team a shot in the arm offensively.

I don't think it's a tin hat theory at all. The question will be, can Richards regain his form in the short time remaining this season? I have my doubts. One thing that Sutter will not allow is for a player to lose his check with the frequency that Richards was before he was sent to the AHL.

Kopitar
Carter
2012 Richards
Shore

is pretty deep down the middle. No other team could match that.
