Why are the Lions offering a huge contract to Bridgewater? If we are going for a QB, I'd rather go for Lamar.

Because they're not offering him a huge contract. It's gonna be a one or maybe two year deal at probably somewhere between 6-8 million. Add that to Goff and he's still making less than Daniel Jones (and what he's signing for in a couple years). I'd rather pay Bridgewater 6 million than Boyle and Blough 2M... because if Goff's arm dies, Bridgewater could still win some games.

The Lions trade the 2020 #3 pick for 2023 #159 - and I completely understand why. As painful as it is, it just did not work out at all.

Just getting rid of everyone from that management eh?
Except for Ragnow, who would you desperately try to keep if you were Lions GM? Okudah's role decreased while the team got better last year. Swift isn't overly durable and was relegated to RB2 (albeit a good one, if healthy). J. Okwara might be cut before the season. His brother avoided being cut by agreeing to a vastly different contract, just like Vatai did.

Jackson is a good guard and was an excellent pick. But at that position, I don't see the Lions spending big to keep him.

Probably the worst contract in baseball. He should kiss his agent's feet daily.
It's a bad contract, but Baez usually is a defensively able SS (with both many good plays and errors). There are a few worse contracts around, after Cabrera's farewell Strasburg probably has the worst for his team. So far, Baez struck out less and walked more, so over a longer time I expect at least .300ish OBP and 85ish wRC+ (not good at all, but not atrocious for a SS either).

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!
After the Lions seemed to be on an upward trajectory, this news is a real disappointment. I don't want to discuss whether the NFL betting restrictions make any sense; the Lions are part of the NHL and have to comply with whatever the league deems appropriate.

Cephus and Moore were depth players, but potentially important ones: Moore contributed on ST plays and Cephus could have spelled Jones as an X-WR. Williams' suspension is even more detrimental, since he needs to be in sync with Goff, but will be sidelined for quite some time again.

I know Holmes recently commented on how a strong locker room can handle a problem player, maybe even two. That was an answer to a question about Jalen Carter, but it looks as if they already have issues to deal with.

I am unhappy about this.
This can impact his 5th year option but more likely, the Lions decision to extend him early after year 3. I'd probably still pick up the 5th year option if the production is there, but I'd make him play out year 4 before I even consider a contract extension. I'd want 2 full years of clean on and off field performance out of him first.
Want to be able to count of your big cap hit players to be available for you.

Responsibility ultimately falls on the players to know and follow the rules, but I'm sorry a six game suspension for an NFL player betting on basketball, team facilities or not, is absolutely ludicrous.

Imagine if Moritz Seider 30 games next year for taking the under on a Bayern Munich match while on Red Wings facilities.

Just a wildly excessive punishment, made even more ridiculous by a league that constantly begs everybody to gamble.

And honestly I'm very skeptical that these were the only players violating that rule. A league full of multi-millionaire 20-something year olds, I'm sorry but I gotta believe way way more of them are online gambling on team facilities.

They already set a precedent by suspending Ridley for a full season. They aren't messing around.

So honestly I thought 6 games was pretty lenient. The NFL is terrified of people thinking the game is rigged, as it would ironically hurt their lucrative gambling income.

But you're absolutely right given their primary advertisers and how they aggressively promote gambling that it comes across as hypocritical at worst and tone-deaf at best.

We’ll see what facts continue to come out, but to me the crucial difference between Williams and Ridley is that based on what I understand as of today, Williams wasn’t betting on NFL football.

100%

I don't feel sorry for anyone who got punished. But you know damn well this is widespread and it's up to you not to get caught.

That said, it does seem ridiculous to suspend both Williams and Berryhill for betting on other sports. I completely understand Moore and Cephus.

But the amount of Draftkings promos and spots on NFL Sundays. Coupled with Fox Sports giving away the money of Terry Bradshaw and David Ortiz every week so you can gamble is absurd.

The article in the Athletic devoted a significant portion of text to how Williams' suspension will impact fantasy leagues lol.
Oh, the irony!

No they didnt set a precedent with Ridley. I think its pretty obvious they shouldnt be allowed to bet on the league that they play in for millions of dollars. Betting non-NFL sports at the practice facility should not make them lose more than a third of the season.

Like these guys are sitting around with a bunch of down time between meetings and shit all the time. They should be able to kill it like tht if they want
