What could he have gotten?I don't care what the hell Grier says he could have gotten a lot more! A Rookie GM got taken badly by Tom Fitzgerald

More dice rolls but that's about itWhat could he have gotten?
Ok, I'm sure someone else said it, but in what world are any of these players close to a "top prospect"? Why would he not take team 1's deal over this??
Grier is so bad at this.
Were we just spoiled to have DW all these years? Because it just feels lame to keep being on the losing end of trades like this...

A team drafts, takes the time to develop in hopes of a player blooming into a player such as Timo.Seems more like they didn't want to resign him at that price point which is ridiculous considering the other contracts they have given out.
Canes said Nikishin was not on the table and the 2nd offer isn’t really more than we got.If one of these were the Canes that'd be, spitballing
1st, 2nd, Nikishin (d man dominating the KHL but signed till 2025)
Or
1st, Ryan Suzuki, Morrow or Drury
A guy claiming insider info says Canes were pissed Sharks didn't take their offer, so I'd guess it's (1), if one of the teams is Carolina
So you’re firmly on the boat that you’re super happy that we have Couture and Hertl signed long term, right? Just looking for consistency.A team drafts, takes the time to develop in hopes of a player blooming into a player such as Timo.
In other words just the kind of player a team should re-sign
Can they actually say full rebuild when they’re saddled with some terrible long term contracts that can’t be moved?“It’s not a full-on rebuild”
- Grier
So it’s a half-ass rebuild where he trades beat players for underwhelming returns.
They’d pulled Nikishin off the table. Canes top prospect offer would’ve been Morrow most likely. If one of these were the Canes that'd be, spitballing

I'm fine with it. I'll be watching most if not all of the games and I like those two well enoughSo you’re firmly on the boat that you’re super happy that we have Couture and Hertl signed long term, right? Just looking for consistency.
Personally, I had written off Hatakka.When-they-were-drafted aside, Mukhamadullin is a first-rounder mostly progressing as a first-rounder would, while Hatakka was a sixth-rounder who has blown past expectations (despite having an injury-riddled season).
I'd say that Zetterlund is really more like Tierney (a little better since he's a bit younger). Johnson is a pure cap dump and there's no equivalent in the Karlsson trade.Seems like an undoing of the EK trade, getting back quantity for quality instead of the other way around this time. Roughly:
[good prospect] Norris = Muk
[bottom of the lineup young roster player] DeMelo = Zetterlund
[meh-ish prospect] Balcers = Okhotiuk
[cap dump] Tierney = Johnson
2020 1st = 2023 1st
2021 2nd = 2024 2nd
EK got an extra 2nd. Unfortunately, the 2023 1st won't be anywhere near the #3 that the 2020 1st became...
We’re 4th to last in the NHL with this “top player in the league”. What’s the alternative proposition here? Trade 1st round picks to make the team better or trade from our mediocre prospect pool?I don't know any of these prospects, so I don't know if I can have an opinion on this trade. With that said, I feel sad and depressed. Are any of these players ready to play in the NHL tonight or next year? WIth the way the Sharks draft, we probably won't see how good this trade is until like 3 years from now at the earliest. You trade a top player in the league for what you hope might work in 3 years. Kinda hard to be excited about that.

Grier didn’t create this mess. He’s just the one tasked with fixing it.
Muk is a Russian prospect, Don't expect NA hockey writers to keep up with the KHL so they tend to rank those players lower in draft rankings.
I suggest Shark fans read some of Muks Devils prospect thread, Specifically the posts made by @Guadana. He's our resident Russian prospect insider who posts videos and various things about prospects.
Prospect Info: - Shakir Mukhamadullin (#20 pick - 2020 draft)
Zetterlund will step right into the middle of our lineup (or maybe the top, lol, but he's more of a middle-six guy), and from what I can tell, Okhotiuk might even get a chance this year, especially with Harrington and Megna both gone.I don't know any of these prospects, so I don't know if I can have an opinion on this trade. Personally as a devils fan I’d agree with that. Not a huge Muk fan either but he has some nice skills and solid top 4 potential. Holtz has some skills and top 6 potential as well but his skating is terrible and may hold him back.Corey Pronman of the Athletic says he’d rather have Muk over Holtz and gave the Sharks a B.
Nobody wins with only icing a bunch of kids. No matter how talented they may beI like them too, but there a big reason we're in this mess. Having 4 30+ yr old guys (including Hertl because he's almost there and still under contract thru the 29-30 season) tied up to long-term, high cap, contracts are not how you want to build your team. Re-signing Meier to an 8-9 yr contract would mean they'd be stuck with him on the back half of the contract.
