Surprised that Hatakka went back. Isn't he in the same sphere as Mukhamadullin?
20th overall pick and 184th overall pick. Sure, same sphere. Hatakka wasn’t even a top 15 prospect by publications in our 17th ranked prospect pool while Muk has passed Holtz and is 3rd or 4th in the 2nd best prospect pool in the league.

Given Vegas’ top prospect was in fact worse, I can go ahead and dispute this post quite easily.
"Quite easily" feels like a stretch. I haven't seen this Mukhamadullin kid play, but I don't see why one would be so quick to proclaim him better than Brisson.

NOTE: this is less of a statment in support of Brisson as it is ??s around some rando I've never heard of coming across as the main piece in a trade for an elite power forward like Meier.

I think so, because this years draft is much stronger than nexts.

Are you joking. Eklund and Bordeleau are miles ahead of Muhkh

Grier/Quinn didnt like him and he wasnt around the team at all, so I think he never wouldve played here again.
Our best D prospect by a wide margin…

And no, Bordeleau is not better.

Mike Grier got taken to the cleaners! A top forward(Timo Meier) for maybe a top 4 D-man,maybe...a 6th-7th D-man,a 3rd line Forward and Johnsson plus a first rounder which is more like a 2nd rounder cause its late! Good job Einstein and the kicker is San Jose has to retain 50% of salary! Pure stupidity if you ask me

Dude was 20th overall pick of the 2020 draft. If you haven’t heard of him and think he’s merely a rando then it’s due to your own incomplete Googling.

So I’ve had time to digest this a bit. This trade is not my favorite BUT I think this is the best that Grier could possibly get. I like that he got a lot of lottery tickets because it doesn’t feel like he was able to get anything close to a sure thing. Zetterlund and Johnsson should be able to come in and fit in immediately making this team easier to watch. Okhotiuk can come in and play a role immediately and offers something that we don’t have in our system, a shutdown LHD. Shakir immediately is our best D prospect even if I’m not the biggest fan. It will be nice if he can become something and I guess we will see next year. The 23 first is obviously nice. The 24 1st likely won’t transfer BUT it would be cool if we got it this year and maybe it ends up earlier than expected.

I don’t love this deal at all but I don’t think there was ever going to be a deal that I loved due to trading Timo.

Ya, going to have to disagree with you there cheif. I don't think anyone who is invested in the sport enough to be on here should have to google the main piece in a return for a star (maybe elite?) powerforward in the prime of his career.

When-they-were-drafted aside, Mukhamadullin is a first-rounder mostly progressing as a first-rounder would, while Hatakka was a sixth-rounder who has blown past expectations (despite having an injury-riddled season).

This trade really does feel like Grier just wanted to "reset" the prospect pool. This was a quick way to do it...

I mean you shouldn’t have to Google him you’re right. You should know who he is. Personally I’m not the biggest fan but 25 points as a 21 year old defenseman in the KHL is nothing to scoff at.

We have virtually zero defensive prospects. We got two - one that sounds like a good future 3rd pairing and one who sounds like he’s been improving significantly every year and might be top 4 (or if we get very lucky, top 2, though doubtful).

We also got another 1st - it’ll be high, but if it’s very high (they reach the conference finals) - then we get a 2nd 1st.

Zetterlund is also very young and still developing, sounds like he’s doing really well this year and can be a top 6 if he keeps developing.

This is not a bad. We’re also going to get a very good offensive player in the draft this year - maybe if we’re lucky, THE offensive player (we’re not lucky but you know).

This is the kind of trade you make during a rebuild when your prospect pool is utter garbage.

Noooo. But I did just see in a re-rank of the 2019 draft piece from The Athletic that they place him higher than the second prospect we got, Okhotiuk.
I believe that piece was written at the start of the season, so it'd have to be updated so to speak.
