HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

So which 8M dollar winger are you dropping down to play on the 3rd line? Laine or Slafkovsky? It sure as well won't be Caufield, and if you want Demidov to play with Rantanen it won't be him. This teams weakness or achilles heel if you will is at the 2C spot, Rantanen being good or even great is irrelevant, he'd be an extremely expensive luxury W that's just not needed.

He's already reportedly turned down a 13-14M contract offer from Carolina. I'm sorry it just seems like a dumb use of our cap space, when we have much more pressing needs.

He surely isn't producing in Carolina as you'd expect either with the way you're describing him.

Unless we can somehow turn Laine into Rantanen by moving Patrik for something else, I just don't see the fit. Atleast for next season.
I’d be getting rid of Laine if we acquire Rantanen. Wouldn’t think twice.

One is elite 5v5 and the other isn’t that good. If it’s $4m more per year for Rantanen, then that’s an easy call.

Ok. So he's like a Bouchard type of D man???
Not a bad comp......different players but similar weaknesses as defenders.

I think Clarke is more of a transporter than Bouchard who is heavily reliant on his shot for offensive production. Much like Bouchard, foot speed is not a strength and Clarke puts himself in terrible situations against NHLers when he forces the game by trying to carry the puck. A classic example of a player who exploited junior hockey with a trait that he will not be able to transfer to the NHL.

I think we see another deal tonight.
I can smell it coming....

From what I had seen of him in Edmonton, he was pretty solid. That's how he got a big contract from the Canucks. But he never recovered from his stay there. I wonder what happened.

He was awful in Edmonton which is why they let him go and Vancouver was widely ridiculed for signing him

Wasn’t it rumored Canes were after Laine last summer as well - I’m assuming the Habs willing to take on complete cap hit was the difference maker.

Ironically Rantanen & Laine grew up together in the Finnish system & are good friends

I'd move Laine for Rantanen in a second. Just to get rid of Laine 9 million caphit this summer. Plus have a playoff run out of Rantanen

Hopefully armia also
I don't understand the urgency of some to get rid of Armia...we are fighting for a playoff spot and they want to give away one of the best on PK and puck handler on the boards.

If it's just for a money issue , it doesn't make sense either.

If one forgets about the contract ..which runs out anyway at the end of the year..... Armia is giving us good hockey

I remind you gentlemen that the idea here is to build a winning culture, not to collect third round picks like pokemon.

We are going to be adding Demidov, Reinbacher, Hage and Fowler to this already young excellent core. We really have no room for a long term massive cap hit. The highest cap hit I'd go would be Cozens. If we grabbed someone like Rants we have to move off of Laine. Which I would do....but we need to forecast those numbers still more.

The idea of a short term Jared McCann type deal makes a ton of sense if we project Hage into the #2 eventually.

Hutson needs a massive raise soon.
Reinbacher will get a raise.
Demidov could break the bank after 3 yers of ELC.
Longer term, Suzuki and Caufield will be getting massive raises into the 2030's

Smart cap moves is essential right now even with a rising cap.

Yes a young struggling player like Dach and Newhook? 😂

Dach was broken when we traded for him and never had more than 30 points, Beniers or Cozens have proven records, also Matts knows how to defend.

If I was the other team, i would be pretty disappointed by that return

You can't get the moon for struggling players signed to a long contract.
