So which 8M dollar winger are you dropping down to play on the 3rd line? Laine or Slafkovsky? It sure as well won't be Caufield, and if you want Demidov to play with Rantanen it won't be him. This teams weakness or achilles heel if you will is at the 2C spot, Rantanen being good or even great is irrelevant, he'd be an extremely expensive luxury W that's just not needed.

He's already reportedly turned down a 13-14M contract offer from Carolina. I'm sorry it just seems like a dumb use of our cap space, when we have much more pressing needs.

He surely isn't producing in Carolina as you'd expect either with the way you're describing him.

Unless we can somehow turn Laine into Rantanen by moving Patrik for something else, I just don't see the fit. Atleast for next season.
I’d be getting rid of Laine if we acquire Rantanen. Wouldn’t think twice.

One is elite 5v5 and the other isn’t that good. If it’s $4m more per year for Rantanen, then that’s an easy call.

Ok. So he's like a Bouchard type of D man???
Not a bad comp......different players but similar weaknesses as defenders.

I think Clarke is more of a transporter than Bouchard who is heavily reliant on his shot for offensive production. Much like Bouchard, foot speed is not a strength and Clarke puts himself in terrible situations against NHLers when he forces the game by trying to carry the puck. A classic example of a player who exploited junior hockey with a trait that he will not be able to transfer to the NHL.

I think we see another deal tonight.
I can smell it coming....

From what I had seen of him in Edmonton, he was pretty solid. That's how he got a big contract from the Canucks. But he never recovered from his stay there. I wonder what happened.

He was awful in Edmonton which is why they let him go and Vancouver was widely ridiculed for signing him
