I hope we can agree on the definition of the B-team. It's the full second best roster, right? A full roster are 23. So 37 on camp roster is nearly 2 full rosters. Gives the A-team and the B-team. Well, for the SSS(as I wrote for the first time actually) most guys who are locks were left behind in Russia(and Finland). Also the CHL players were given tryouts this time more than before when they were considered locks(the glorious NHL draft first rounder Scherbak is officially out and for the simple reason. He wasn't good enough for now).

So in general talking about the SSS roster as being identical to a 37 men camp roster ist absurd as well as in partical overlooking the fact that the offensive core as well as the no.1 goaltender weren't there. And while the D was closer to the WJC roster there were some omissions too.

So here's the list for you:

G: Sorokin (considered no.1)

D: Glukhov, Baldaev(injured, out for WJC too), Zadorov

F: Mamin(was there, got injured like 5 minutes into the first game), Sharov, Goldobin, Buchnevich, Kamenev, Golyshev, Zykov

If those player partipated in the SSS we could talk about a roster close the A-team roster. Rosters at SSS were pretty even in regard of their "closeness" to the WJC roster. In fact at the very least half the guys from the SSS won't be at the WJC for Russia.

And yeah, I have no idea about Russia's roster.:sarcasm:

Owned.

Canada at the SSS didn't look special to me. I don't think they medal this year.

1. Canada
2. USA
3. Sweden
4. Russia

Continued on...

5. Finland
6. Czech Republic
7. Switzerland
8. Slovakia
9. Germany
10. Denmark (gets regulated)

Eichel/Matthews > McDavid/Reinhart
Hanifin/DeAngelo > Morrissey/Nurse

Demko > Fucale

USA - Canada finals and USA takes it.

I don't think you'll find that many people agree with you there.

McDavid > Eichel, worst case =

Reinhart > Matthews

I think Matthews will be the better NHL player 5-10 years from now. But right now, Reinhart has 2 years on Matthews, has NHL and WJC experience...you'd be hard-pressed to argue that.

Canada has the best one-two punch in the tournament, IMO. USA is a close second.

I think Matthews will be given 3rd line minutes to feast on easier competition while Larkin/Compher will handle the 2nd line and defensive zone responsibility.

when is the last time this wasn't the case?

If you mean when was the last time Canada and the US weren't in the same preliminary group, that would be back in 2011. Canada played Sweden on the 31st that year (which Sweden won in a shootout), while the US played Switzerland.

not always, It all dpends on last years tournament. 1-3-5-7

It's actually 1-4-5-8-9 and 2-3-6-7-Promoted Team.

Canada was 4th last year. USA 5th. Under your 1-3-5-7 they would be in separate groups

It's has happened a lot lately. Like someone said 2011, 4 year ago the last time they were separate. That New Years Eve game is always fun though(though 2013 is happened on the 30th because Russia wanted Canada game last and they were hosts). My favorite in the past couple years has to be 2012 though. Beating them to ensure they go to the relegation side was fun.

The US is mostly "garbage" at the IIHF world championships ( I tournament we know that NA take a bit lightly), I would say, although they may have had a disapointing olympics here and there historically, I cant be assed to look it up.

People tend to be saying that Finland won't be succeeding this year because of loss of good centers. I think of it the other way. I think this is something which suit us well this year. We are more competeable in wingers and scorers than years back and we need to be playing more straight forward hockey to a net because lack of playmaking center. That sounds like perfect setup for NA rink for me. Second thing is that it's less pressured for one star potential center to carry us in medals. That brings best out of our team play. Saros is the best potential nhl goalie of the tournament and his assistant Husso comes quite clear second. Only thing I worry most is coaching and defence but as I said this team will work as a team. Maybe not Kapanen we'll see ;)

I hope the tournament is a lot of fun and everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Thanks to all the kids for giving up their Christmas to entertain us. Hopefully, Montreal will come thru and fill the seats. Hopefully, one day, we will see this tournament in a small town in Canada.
