check the medal Count again:

Sweden: 17
Czech Rep: 3

Oh I checked it all right

I think it's fair to say that you should include medals from Czechoslovakia as well, which would make it:

Sweden: 17
Czech Rep: 14

Not quite such a big difference now is it?

Also, if you look at performance in the finals we're 2/2 (2/7 if you include Czechslovakia), Sweden are 2/12.

Anyway, I know you guys have more medals than us (even if you include Czechoslovakia) so I'm not arguing that. I just agree with some posters here that perhaps Sweden isn't as hyped as Canada because they haven't performed as well in the final when they get there.

There is one poster who says keeps arguing that SWE should be more hyped and there is a bunch of posters who say otherwise and I agree with the later. Then there is also a bunch of posters who says SWE is underperforming and all of them are from Canada, which is a bit of throwing stones in a glass house if we going to look at the last 5 years. If we go further back Canada got the medal game on lock - but for me WJC, other than just for fun, is a chance to see future NHL players so I hardly see that as relevant.

He was referring to Gold medals, on which count he's correct.

Czech Rep - 2000, 2001; Sweden - 1981, 2012

And for overall medals it's not quite fair to compare Sweden (competing from the beginning in 1977) with the Czech Rep, which has only been around since 1994.

Add Czechoslovakia's medals (5 silvers, six bronze) and the "Czechs" are up to 14.

Although for the record, if we look at Sweden since 1994 they still have nine medals (1G 6S 2B).

not to nitpick, but Canada hasn't underperformed the last 5 years. 2010 lost in OT of the Gold Medal Game after a 5 year run. disappointing, but we were bound to lose a GMG eventually.

2011. Gold medal game. disastrous 3rd period, disappointing... but s**t happens.

2012 a bronze medal... by most people here medaling at this tournament is not underperforming.

the last 2 years however... not acceptable.

Anything less than an appearance in the Gold Medal game this year on home ice will be underperforming... and if that happens, I hope people at Hockey Canada get fired on the 6th of January.

I rather see Sweden as underrated than hyped. We were hyped last year on home ice and you all saw what happened. It's impossible to see how the outcome will be before we have even seen any of the teams play, it may look good on paper but that doesn't necessary mean they will get the golden medal. How many of you had Finland as favorites last year? With that being said, I still see Canada and USA as favorites and maybe even Russia.

10'. 1. USA 2. CAN 3. SWE
11'. 1. RUS 2. CAN 3. USA
12. 1.SWE 2. RUS 3. CAN
13. 1. USA 2. SWE 3. RUS
14. 1.FIN 2. SWE 3. RUS

You care to count the medals? :sarcasm:

I'll do it for you. SWE 1 gold, 2 silver, 1 Bronze. Canada. 0 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze.

Talking about underachieving, gtfoh.

Yes, I realize that. That's why his/her post was so stupid.

I honestly don't think that Canada will lose a single game this tournament. Their forward depth is crazy and they have the strongest centres at the tournament. I'm really looking forward to watching McDavid and Virtanen play together.

Eichel/Matthews > McDavid/Reinhart
Hanifin/DeAngelo > Morrissey/Nurse

Demko > Fucale

USA - Canada finals and USA takes it.

10'. 1. USA 2. CAN 3. SWE
11'. 1. RUS 2. CAN 3. USA
12. 1.SWE 2. RUS 3. CAN
13. 1. USA 2. SWE 3. RUS
14. 1.FIN 2. SWE 3. RUS

Looking at that medal counts then why is Canada so hyped unlike Sweden???? Canada has missed medals the two latest years. Canada missed medal with their best team 2013. Still so many people act as Canada will not lose any games and they will dominate WJC 2015. :help::shakehead

Have a hard time seeing that. 3 players on USA that aren't even drafted yet being better than a 19 year old 2nd overall, 1st overall in 2015. Then 2 first rounders that are 19.

Got damn it, when we finally about to leave this gibberish behind us....

Canada has by far the deepest talent pool out of any country which makes for great hype albeit WJC and tournaments a like does not work out that way. Drop it.

Heard this same thing a lot before the 2013 tournament with the NHL lockout. People thought Nugent Hopkins would have 5-6 points a game. Yes you're the team to beat, but you won't steamroll teams.

Really? How many of you genius North Americans know anything about the other countries development?

Every year I hear people claim Sweden will suck ect ect which prove that most people on HF don't know what they are talking about. Then people are so "surprised" that Sweden do well.

Why do you care so much what some random people on internet think

I am a Swede too.

1. Sweden has been predicted to take home medals in several WJCs by N. americans, from posters on HF to media professionals. No one is hardly surprised when Canada, USA, Sweden or Russia takes the gold, maybe Finland even tho they have showed several times that you can't count them out. If someone says Sweden sucks then call that person out, now you're just blowing up the thread with baseless accusations. If someone predicts we are not getting a medal is not the same as saying we suck, they just think that there are other teams that can compete better.

2. When making a prediction on how far a team will go in a WJC, what else than talent can you judge by? It's hard to predict how coaching and team chemistry will work out for a team that does not play a lot together, same reason why a team with deep talent does not always work out. I feel something has not worked out so great in Canada these last 5 years, maybe their juniors is not as familiar with playing with in a system, maybe it's just a fluke, it that does not take anything away from individual skill.

If you really feel that we have better team then Canada this year go ahead and stack line against line and make a case why Sweden it coming out on top this year or stop trolling.

3. When draft comes around its usually top heavy with Canadians but good prospects from other countries will get drafted so they do get their shot in the NHL. Yeah sometimes I too get the feeling its a bit biased but you are oh so wrong if you think a NHL team pass up on good talent on purpose. Don Cherry is not in charge of the drafting for any NHL team.

4. The one thing in this thread I reacted to was that we were underachieving, I felt that if there was a team underachieving compared to talent it was Canada. So I addressed that poster ( well not really, I quoted the wrong person - UserNameWasTaken).
