Gotta be objective. I will be interested to see how McDavid will be coming off of his hand injury.

The one thing I have noticed about Canada the past two WJC's, and what I think will happen again this year, is they are not very well coached and do not play well together. They have arguably the most talented roster but the Euro's always get a system down and play extremely well together, and I think USA will this year as well. USA's roster is right up there with Canada in terms of talent.

Of course I would love to see them succeed, and a Canada-USA gold medal game would be epic.

hmmm....

Anyways i feel as though team Canada is the early favourites on paper, although that means absolutely nothing and things will become more clear as the tournament goes on, for a top 4 i will guess

Canada
USA
Sweden
Russia

haha, I know ironic.

But honestly with McDavid on the team I root equally for Canada and USA, as strange as that may seem.

I just believe USA will be better and Canada will flounder again.

I could easily be totally wrong. That's why it's a predictions thread.

The US has the advantage of familiarity. Most went through the NTDP and even if they were there only a year, it helps.
The US also IMO will be a faster skating team, and will have better puck control.

I think Canada has an advantage in individual talent. If they can come together as a team, they will do well, probably gold.

I think Russia will be strong, as well as Sweden. Just don't think they're on the level of Canada or the US.

I won't make any predictions, just hope Canada finally wins gold again.

Though I won't be surprised if we end up without a medal.

HFBoards have listed Sweden as favourites for the last several years, actually. This is the first time in a while that they haven't had some serious buzz about them. [mod]

Sorry but that's not true. Sweden is never favorites. USA and Canada(a little bit Russia too) are always hyped as the faves. Sweden is not. Every year HF screams about how Sweden sucks compared to last years. But USA and Canada are soooo stacked and heavy faves.

Lol. Nothing new with HF.

So Sweden's never considered a favourite by HFBoards, huh? Here's the results from last year's predictions thread:

Canada - 29 G, 16 S, 14 B (59 Total)
Sweden - 13 G, 25 S, 13 B (51 Total)
Russia - 13 G, 12 S, 9 B (34 Total)
USA - 7 G, 9 S, 13 B (29 Total)
Finland - 2 G, 7 S, 11 B, (20 Total)
Switzerland - 0 G, 0 S, 2 B
Germany - 0 G, 0 S, 1 B

As it turns out Sweden finished behind only Canada in prediction voting. Well ahead of both Russia and the US.

And the rest of the years???? Sorry, but one year don't prove anything. :shakehead

Such a bias thread. 95% of posters will just vote their home country as #1. Their #2 pick is who they most likely feel will win.
Well yeah, it's just predictions for fun. Of course you want to believe your country will win and support them. It's not like the results will always be that the country with the most talented team will be 1st, country with the second most talent will be 2nd etc.

That being said:

Gold: Canada
Silver: USA
Bronze: Czech Republic

Please keep Finland away from the top in your predictions, we prefer being the underdogs

you've come to the wrong forum if you expect unbiased, insightful analysis. HF is not where hockey experts hang out.

Wow...just wow! Your post claimed that Sweden was never a favorite on this board, and yet we only had to go back to last year to prove that decisively wrong. And still, that wasn't enough for you. I guess some people just can't admit they're wrong. :shakehead

This is said EVERY YEAR!!!!

Ohhhhh USA and Canada are sooooo good and heavy favorites. Sweden is so weak bla bla bla blaaaaaa.

Is there any tournaments that you North Americans do not think you are superior Sweden and the rest of the Euros?

To say this is in NA: Sweden won gold in Canada. No North American team played in the gold medal game.

Who really cares if people think USA and Canada are the favourites? That's just their opinion and they're entitled to that. I really don't understand why you have such a problem with this?

Perhaps you should understand what it's like to be a fan of the Czechs, or even the Slovaks? People sometimes under-rate us because of poor past performances and almost never consider us medal candidates (even though sometimes we are). None of us ever whine about it!

I guess it seems like Sweden is being under-rated to him because there has been a few people saying that they wont medal and that its a gap year for them. Which is completely false. On paper they don't look worse then the U.S. or Canada. Especially if they get Burakovsky to play. They will be just as hard to beat.

But on the other hand there is still a lot of people expecting them to do well so there is no reason to argue about this. There's just more Canadian and American posters on here.

I'm not wrong. How was Swede. Fave last year when Canada tops the list as usual.

No, Sweden is underrated as Canada, USA and sometimes Russia are overrated.

BTW, people are saying it is this year there's no buzz around Sweden. Really??? This people are saying every year. When Sweden won gold 2012 most people had us outside top 4. This year people is doing.

If Canada had been in finals 5 of the latests years then they would be hyped to death. But since it's only poor Sweden then they aren't worth it.

i guess we need to get our acts together and fix this unfairness:laugh:

Maybe if Sweden had won more than just two golds in the 40-year history of this event they would be taken more seriously, but they have a tendency to underachieve, including last year when they were clearly the best team but came up short again.

That really hits the nail on the head.

Talking about throwing stones in a glass house.

Edit: Anyways, with Canadas depth and talent there is no surprise that they are no. 1 favorites every year. If any team has underachieved it's them and if there is any team that has overachieved its Finland . WJC is a bunch of guys thrown together and are expected to play like a team - some of them work it out some of them don't. Its good fun hockey, try to cheer for your team, enjoy watching the future NHL talent and take light hearted stabs at other. This thread is going downhill fast.

Only on Hockeysfuture would 15 gold medals be underachieving.
