Against a Russian team with most of their best U20 players. Who was missing from Russia? Buchnevich?

See? You have no idea about who was missing. This was the first time the russian SSS ssquad was a B-team + a couple of CHLers. I know, probably McJesus would have scored 10 goals in 2 games, I know.

Were it not for the spectacular Russian goaltending in the SSS, Russia would've been destroyed.

Love those typical "but if we had and you had and they had and blah" replies. No sir, goaltending is not a part of the game and never was:sarcasm:

They were out played and out shot by a 2-1 margin on many nights.

Outplayed? In which universe? Outshot? Yes, in NA ppl still believe it'a all about shots. It's about goals, you know.

And though none of the four teams competing in that series were a complete WJC team, the Russians were probably closer to their tourney lineup than any single CHL entry was.

And there you are wrong again. In past years - yes. Not this time.

Countries have up and down years with their available talent. This is actually an up year for Canada in my books. Having said that, nothing is guaranteed in this tournament. Don't forget that you can lose only one game in the entire tourney and still finish 5th. Hockey is funny like that sometimes.

What's so up about this year, except for the overhyped McDavid? Yeah, If Canada somehow managed to bring all available by age players, but the squad that will go is okay, but nothing super special.

You are aware that the Russian camp roster has been released, are you not? I only bring that up because that roster is nearly identical to the SSS roster. We can argue more about the other issues, but your lack of knowledge about your own team roster doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that you have the slightest idea what's going on in this tournament.

among forwards there're quite a few who sadly are locks and who didn't participate in sss. golyshev, sharov, kamenev, buchnevich. and then there're goldobin, zykov, penkovskiy and tkachev. identical?:help:

And now would you like to run through the list of guys on both rosters? Keeping in mind you named 8 different and the camp roster has 37. By the way I did say NEARLY identical.

there'are two lines of forwards i listed who most likely will make the team and who weren't at sss. what identity are you talking about again?

Doubtful that all those guys make the team. Once again I will point out there are 37 camp invites.

Denmark
Swiss
Slovaks

US gets relegated.

Calling it.

Sebastian Aho just narrowly beats Sebastian Aho in the point scoring race. ;)

Gold: USA
Silver: Finland
Bronze: Russia

Canada, Sweden, and Czech Republic the other contenders for medals

Sweden is underrated as always. Why I'm not surprised???? What have Canada, USA, Russia and Czech Republic done to get this all love and hype ahead of Sweden?:help::shakehead

Having the likes of Mcdavid and Reinhart anchoring your centre ice might have a lot to do with it. Not a bad defensive group, but the forwards are where they truly shine. USA has a strong forward and defensive group, however I think Sweden surprises and takes home the silver. Russia and USA duke it our for bronze in my books

With baited breath we wait for your justification that proves why Sweden should be hyped.

becuse we always takes medal? its always the same, people say sweden is not good enough etc. but year after year we show how good we are.

our team this year is strong, in every aspect.

I haven't really noticed anyone hyping the Czech Republic, perhaps I missed some of the posts in the thread?

Even if people were hyping the Czechs, it makes a nice change, given that we are rarely ever considered good enough to win a medal at this tournament. Most of us are excited to see our team maybe finally do well after so long :shakehead

This thread predictions:
CAN 18-12-8
USA 20-13-9
SWE 4-11-7
FIN 2-4-8
RUS 1-5-8
CZE 0-0-5

So, where exactly is the hyping of the Czech Republic and Russia ahead of Sweden?

Is being in 5 finals in last 7 tournaments good enough for you?

Well, it's junior hockey. There are all new teams every year. Either way it's HF, so ppl think Canada or US will take it in a land slide. My view on modern junior hockey is that Sweden and US are the power houses right now. If Sweden has a bridge year, I don't know, but I'd still mentor my team to take the Sweden and US games with extra motivation. The hype around McDavid blinds Canadians here I think. The Czechs have a strong team this time, the Finns are getting stronger in juniors. Nearly nobody here seems to notice there is Russia out there. I think the predictions here will go way wrong. To me the US are the favorites to win it. After that it's a pretty even battle.

Serious prediction:
G-Canada
S-USA (McDavid vs Eichel in the finals.....TSN poops their pants)
B-Sweden beats Czechs
