Boy, you win a medal 14 years in a row, and then finish 4th twice in a row and it's like they forget all about you.

Yeh m8, you guys had a plan, the other contires adapted (i agree it took some time) and now Canada needs to develop their game to win. Otherwise you will be stuck at 14 :handclap:

USA
Sweden
Russia
Finland

Canada irrelevant once again

Since this tournament switched from a round robin to a medal round format 20 years ago Canada has failed to play for a metal exactly 1 time.

But sure Canada is irrelevant.

Yes two 1 goal bronze medal games prove that Canada playing the way they have can never win another medal.

Lol at everyone placing Canada 3rd or 4th   :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Obviously, I don't wanna count any team out (Russia, US, Sweden, Finland, Czechs), but I can't see any of them stop Canada this year. I guess, we will see.

Goaltending.
Goaltending won't be an issue. The defence is going to be very good imo and even with 4 goals against (doubt it happens, or more than once) this team has enough power to score more goals than the opposite team.

1. Canada
2. USA
3. Finland

Really think Canada takes it with the crowd going crazy.. Will help them lots..

And just for reference, I said USA last year so I don't just say Canada everytime lol

Being an American I'd love to see the US take this one, behind a huge showing from Eichel. But boy I think everyone is disregarding how the Canadiens have home ice advantage. This crowd will not be easy to play in front of vs Canada.

Although Canada is definitely favourites for gold they do lose a fair bit recently (Past 15 years) at home in the WJC.

2012 - Bronze (Lost to Russia)
2011 - Silver (Buffalo was host and it was basically a home tournament) (Lost to Russia)
2010 - Silver (Lost to USA)
2009 - Gold
2006 - Gold
2003 - Silver (Lost to Russia)
1999- Silver (Lost to Russia)

Overall at home they have 4 Golds out of 10 or 11 tournaments hosted (If memory serves me correct). However thy are the best home performing nation. Especially since the fall of the USSR. Only two nations have won as hosts since 1991, Canada (4/9) and Finland (1/2)

Lol @ people who think Canada needs to be fave in every tournament.

This has been said for years now about Canada.

Canada couldn't even get a medal with their best team 2013! They have missed medals two years in row.

And in 2005 they steamrolled every other country. What's your point? We wouldn't win every year but we'd be the favourites and win alot more than we lose.

The rest of the world has catch Canada.

The failure in 2013 is more recent than the win in 2005.

Why should you be faves when you haven't won a gold since 2009? Canada has not won medal the latest two years.

I mean look at the hype aroun D Canada when they won all golds in the end of 2000's.

Now same people hype them too even if Canada struggle. I wish people could be more realistic and not only look at the name of the country.

I would be shocked if Canada didn't break their drought this year. They don't have crappy oilers picks this year (looking at you RNH). This time they got McDavid.

I get it. The present time is for some people the only thing they "remember". But Canada was 10 times in a row (!) in the gold-medal game between the years 2002 and 2011. And won 19 medals (16 of that are golds/silvers) in the last 21 tournaments.

And then, even though we haven't been good lately (well, just last 2-3 years), it has nothing to do with this tournament, since here are different rosters and everything. Or do you think Finland is a favorite just because of the gold medal last year? Then, Canada has always one of the top 3 rosters at the juniors, that, or the best one. On paper.

Sure the world is catching on a little bit closer but there's a reason MacKinnon, Ekblad, Drouin, Lazar and Horvat are in the NHL and only Burakowsky and Draisaitl are in the NHL. It's clear that if every year was a lockout year then Canada would be the favourites and most likely win, they'd win on paper for sure.

Well I don't know if we're the favourites, I think it's going to be a close one this year with alot of nations having a chance.

I can agree that Canada isn't the favourites every year and the last 5 years haven't been good but they are still a team who can win gold. They have the talent but they just come up short for a reason alot of people don't know.

This is the most eloquent description of things I've seen in regards to Canada and it's current WJC standing. I urge everyone involved in this discussion to read this again and take it to heart. Well said, THF. :handclap:

Sweden has been in final in 5 of the latest 7 years. We haven't missed the medal round since 2006.
Still people act as Canada (and USA) will dominate. Sweden sucks bla bla bla... I see many people not have Sweden in top 4. That's way more laughable than to predict Canada in 3rd/4th.

Rosters? Is there anyone who know enough about the rosters to say they are faves or not? You will always say Canada has the best roster because the hype your players is getting. People are more familiar with USA and Canada rosters. But are they best?

So! What's your point? Canada has been in the final 4 of those 7 years and has 2 Gold medals. 1 more than Sweden.

Missed the medal round? What do you mean? win a medal or play for a medal?
2006 Sweden didn't win a medal.
2007 Sweden didn't win a medal.
2011 Sweden didn't win a medal.

Or are you just talking about playing for medal... i.e. playing in the Bronze medal game but losing? If that's what you mean, then I think Canada has played for medal for every tournament since 1999. I think almost every tournament but 1 or 2 since the early 90s.

for ****s sake, Lollipop, just pick Sweden to win already. nobody really cares who you consider the favorites to be, so you shouldn't care about what anybody else here on HF thinks.
