I have no doubt the older Scrivens, who has played 22 games so far this year is more prepared to play on Saturday.

Bernier is Reimer's age, and Scrivens is Quick's age.

On the same teams last year:

Player|GP|Min|GA|GAA|W|L|T|Svs|Pct|EN|SO
Jonathan Quick|69|4099|133|1.95|35|21|13|1730|0.928|1|10
Jonathan Bernier|16|890|35|2.36|5|6|2|348|0.908|1|1

Player Name|GP|Min|GA|GAA|W|L|T|Svs|Pct|EN|SO
Jonas Gustavsson|42|2301|112|2.92|17|17|4|1035|0.902|2|4
James Reimer|34|1879|97|3.10|14|14|4|877|0.9|2|3
Ben Scrivens|12|672|35|3.13|4|5|2|324|0.902|4|0
Jussi Rynnas|2|99|7|4.25|0|1|0|33|0.825|0|0

There was a huge difference between Bernier and Quick last year on the same team.

There was not that same gap at all between Leafs keepers.

Is Bernier a better option, or just played on a much better team?

Sometimes goaltenders or any player for that matter, need more playing time to get into a groove. It's difficult to get going when you only play every four or five games. I would love to see him over an extended stretch at number one. Worth the risk IMO.

It's not a sideways deal at all - Bernier is a big upgrade on Scrivens, who we don't know at this point if he can be an NHLer. Bernier and Reimer are relatively equal, I'd say, and it puts us then into a great potential platoon situation, depending of course on performance - with the caveat that Reimer would be getting first crack.

In this shortened season, where 3 games in 4 nights will be common . . . we absolutely NEED a SOMEWHAT proven commodity - not a total flyer like Scrivens, who after 2 or 3 games could suddenly appear to be a non-option.

My preference is a more proven starting goalie, but Bernier's upside is good. It's win-win, considering we wouldn't have to give up the world for him (probably just Scrivens and a pick).

I wouldn't give up much for him. Certainly not Kadri or Frattin or a prospect of that ilk. Wouldn't mind a MacArthur swap. I'm not too high on him, but i'd be interested in getting him for cheap and platooning with Reimer.

Vice versa for me

He hasn't been lights out for the Marlies this year

I think that they will be asking for more unfortunately

Imo closest deal of fair value that could work is Frattin + 2nd/3rd

Paterson was drafted, not Patterson. :P

I see him as a 3rd round pick in Button's recent draft rankings, and his stats do look good, albeit on a stacked London Knights team. I think he might be a good choice for us in the 3rd round, but I haven't really seen him play so I can't be the judge of that.

Woops. I can't always be right. ;)

Disclaimer: In no way am I sugesting that they should make this deal. I think that getting Carter is a short term solution that may not even work. Furthermore it is going back to bad habits which have crippled this franchise. That being said...

What would LA likely want for Carter and Bernier?

Kadri
Frattin
Franson
Scrivens
2013 2nd
2014 1st

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

nonis is fired, if he accepts that deal
people overrate carter so much on here

Again, I didn't say that he should take it. I just wanted to know what LA would be looking for realistically.

The got Carter for Johnson + 1st and Lombardi is on record saying that he's in no rush to trade Bernier, would have to be a good deal for him.

Edit: Carter is a pretty damn good player. He would be #1C on TC-B

Close to 40G every year and his D is underated.

One of his big points in the article was Reimer shouldn't start because Orr scored on him.

In that case, I guess Brodeur should have retired after Orr scored on him.

One training camp goal. Stinking it up in training came...an article that is written on one training camp goal. Really? Come on.
It's Feschuk, he's on a roll this week. See his piece on Phaneuf?

Just throwing this out there - while currently, both of them seem to be very similar in terms of quality, what about their potential and upside?

I can't help but feel that one of them has the potential to be a superstar in this league, while the other one I'm almost convinced will not be anything more than average.

I agree, the guy with similar stats on a much worse team. Who could that be?

trading good prospects or picks for Bernier would just be another toskala/raycroft trip all over again.

i'd give up a lot for bernier. that guy is a great goalie with big things ahead.

wouldn't even blink at trading kadri and frattin for him. that would be a steal for the leafs.

Reimer's trial run in the league was a flash in the pan.

Last season was the real Reimer.

You mean how he played after he was prematurely brought back from a concussion?

You still haven't given a legitimate reason why Berniers better or why Reimer won't get better. Stop with the ****** 12 year old answers and actually back-up your outlandish claims for once.

last year was the first bad year that Reimer has had.....ever.

coincidentally, it just so happened that he also had a major head/neck injury that was misdiagnosed at the same time.

Im pretty sure people base it on potential....

Why do we ever draft players? We should trade our picks for proven players in the NHL. the Draft is a crap shoot. Theyve played 0 nhl games. Theyre unproven. Let's get proven commodities.

Reimer and Bernier are the same age, Reimers bigger and has proven more, why should his potential be any less than Bernier who hasn't proven anything?

I could see Kadri being the piece going back. Rightly or wrongly, Nonis making a move for Bernier with Kadri the main piece going back would gain him a lot of fans in Toronto where many see Kadri as a bust.

They'd see it as "Burke's bust of a draft pick for a young Stanley Cup winner"

HAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHA. It would not gain him any fans, it would just show you how dumb half our fan base is to support an idea like that.

Bernier is closer to bust territory than Kadri is. Both are unproven at the NHL level. Bernier has nice stats in sheltered minutes behind a good team.

bottom line is that Bernier is an upgrade over Scrivens and would most likely split time with Reimer. If we can aquire him at a reasonable cost, I say do it. As long as we dont trade for Bobby Lou and that brutal contract of his

If the price tag for Bernier is too high then I'd rather just roll Reimer and Scrivens

Leafs shouldn't give up much to get him. He's unproven, and this is a tough place to prove yourself as a goalie.

I'd rather roll with Reimer/Scrivens and take our chances with an offer sheet in the summer, if it's still possible.

Sounds like people are already coming up with excuses as to why Bernier's not good enough. I'm not going to trade solid assets for a what-if. We've been there before and it set this organization back years.
