The NHL playoffs happen every year too, and they are quite important.

It's not the Olympics, the goal isn't to crown the best nation like it is every 4 years. This is more about qualifying and seeding for the Olympics, national pride and entertainment.

I'm european. I'm used with competitions that involve national teams to be held once at every four years. they seem more meaningless to me like that.

NHL is like a national club league. those are being held every season everywhere...
