great game overall...these guys played with heart and thats all you can ask for.

surprised Campbell got the start, but he did what he needed to do. this team has already surprised my expectations...love the hustle and grit out there...teams like this will be what USA puts out there from now on...younger guys with skill and speed, and some vets with grit and heart...a nice mix on the ice despite looking so bad on paper.

this defense is the strength, and it is clear every game. :handclap:

it's just so stupid disrespect to boo to someones anthem, just stupid..
congrats USA btw

deserved win for us.
I'm even glad we lost now before playoffs. It's clear something has to be changed.

Should've been a penalty but damn that was a dramatic move

How? The guy's face was at skate level, the U.S player was obviously going for the puck. Sucks for him that he got injured but that is definitely not a penalty.

Not sure if serious. Panarin-Shipachyov-Dadonov line is better and is actually working great.
you are not sure about what?

I am not sure how what I wrote has anything to do with the Panarin-Shipachyov-Dadonov line.

Garbage. Send Medvedev home please.
With guys like Chudinov, Yakovlev, Medvedev and Kulikov on the ice, Russia looks like a team destined to be eliminated in the Quarterfinals.
I am interested to know which defensemen team Russia should be dressing instead.

JVR was invited but i think he was a bit injured so he declined.

Im pretty sure he declined because if he cant be bothered to work in the NHL hes certainly above going and getting some practice even if its much needed. The fact that Sid goes while the Leafs losers cant be bothered says a lot.

Tarasenko was barely noticeable the whole game, not sure why would he be there.

Because he's an elite talent and you can put him out there with 1min left with Geno at center, Tarasenko on the wing, Kovie on the point/wing.

That is firepower only Canada can match. I realize he didnt have a strong game but he scored 40g in the NHL this past year which cant be said about the other people on the ice.

Russia needed a goal, Tarasenko gives the team a higher percentage chance of that happening with the likes of Malkin and Kovalchuk as linemates.

Just my opinion. It would be like the Blackhawks not having Hossa on the ice in the last minute when your team needs a goal (Hossa is chicago's third best forward).

you really can't see the difference? well...

It just depends on your perspective. Most European fans don't much care about the WJC's, but love the WC's. European teams have 3 weeks of camp before the tournament. You're telling me it doesn't matter to them?

I just don't understand why the fact that something is yearly would make it irrelevant. Obviously the Olympics are a bigger deal, but without the WC's, there would be no senior international hockey except for once every 4 years.

He played like crap, who cares if he's 'elite talent'.

it looked like he fell because he was tripped

Congrats to Team USA! A deserving winner in every facet of the game. That virtually clinches 1st place in the Group for the QF, after decisive wins over Finland and Russia.

It will be hard for Russian fans to be optimistic after that performance. If they should manage to beat Finland and Slovakia in the preliminary, then a 2nd seed in QF would offer some hope. But both the Finns and Slovaks will certainly be encouraged by the result today.

the big difference is that the WJC is age related... obviously you can't hold it once every 2/4 years... it makes sense to be a yearly thing...

WC is yearly, and the best players usually don't attend even if available... goes to show how important they consider it. believe me, it this was a 4 years thing, it would be comparable with the Olympics...

And the chances of an all North American final grow by the day...

Good Job, USA.

Now, Calgary bows out, we each fly in a player, J. Hockey for Team USA and Brodie for us, and we make the final an interesting affair.

Tarasenko was barely noticeable the whole game, not sure why would he be there.

He wasn't noticeable because he was on the 4th line with Shirokov and Tikhonov barely seeing any ice-time.

Put him up with Kovalchuk and they'd be deadly together.

Anyways, great win for the US. Impressive effort all-around. Dylan Larkin and Dan Sexton have been very pleasant surprises. Mike Reilly has already won a place over proven NHL players. It'd be a mistake for him to go back to college for a fourth year.

With the way Medvedev played, any VHL defenseman would be capable of being equally as bad!
