He ought to, because WHC gold is the only team achievement he'll ever win.

He'll need to prove himself more though.

Russia was the favorite to win from the start and I was sure Finland wouldn't make it past the preliminary round so all we can do is be happy but this did leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

I hate to ***** about referees but the reffing was often awful and the gold medal game made no exception. And that's a shame. Maybe the outcome could have been different without all the penalties, all of which were not needed in a game like this.

It just shows you something about the systems the two teams play but if you get to penalty trouble with Russia you're really in trouble and that is where we got burned.

As a Russian I would hate the refs too. They werent ask to participate in a great final and a well deserved victory, but they did.

Too many posts to read everything and this has probably been discussed about already but how did the refereeing seem like to any non Finnish or non Russians this game?

I know blaming refs is the oldest cliche, but didn't the refereeing look quite bad? Some little help to the Russians maybe to make Putin happy or refs being afraid of keeping their jobs under the pressure?

Congrats Russia to the gold. Very well deserved.

Congrats Finland to a great tournament and the silver. Who would have guessed this a couple of weeks back. Well done finns. Pekka Rinne :yo:

I have probably said this before, but I really respect the way Ovechkin & Malkin are always ready to represent their country when they have the chance. They were pretty much the difference makers again so it pays off. Also I'd like to say congrats to Russia because I forgot to in my last post. Russia had a great tournament and it really looked at times that they were finally playing organized hockey again. The hockey world is better with a strong Russia that's always an achievement to beat.

[Nikolai Zherdev] Crashed his Bugati recently...got booted from the team...

This is very true. I really don't care if a player chooses decline an invitation, that is his right and that's fine but I sure can respect a person who is true to his word. When these guys say "it's always an honor to play for your country", it's not just lip service. This I can very much respect.

Thankfully we'll see how the new Russian team stacks up in a best on best tournament soon.

World Cup 2016 :yo:
