Without 2 last out-of-frustration penalties it was 12-14 btw. But Russia scored 4 PP goals and Finland 1. I can't understand this bad officiating whining.
The hooking call on Malkin was the only exception of a bad penalty called on Russia (also the missed high stick on OJ), the rest were legit calls that would have been called in any other game too.

The calls on Salomaki, Immonen and Kontiola were just blatant dives that have no business getting called in a final. The call on Sallinen was somewhat fishy, but I didn't see it properly enough to call it a dive or not. The rest was legit.

Summa summarum, Russians knew how to get the right calls and the Finns didn't want to play that game (of diving). Russia was better on the PP and we paid the price for it. 5on5 it was very equal and could have gone either way.

well, i'm russian. [mod]

Where do you think the arguable lack of system for the national team stems from? There ought to be someone able to "right the ship" but the change from Bilyaletdinov didn't seem to change anything. Albeit it did bring gold.

Congrats to both nations. It is great to see guys like Ovechkin and Malkin flying to Europe the minute their NHL seasons are over to represent their country. Meanwhile some Canadian players would rather play Golf, and decline invites to represent their Country. Great to see Ovechkin and Malkin having so much pride. Well deserved win. A great showing by Finland as well after their prelims.

It is hard to be objective as a Finn, but I really feel that if the officiating would have been fair, Finland would have had a chance. No doubt Russia is and was better, but Finland was in the game.

Thankfully we'll see how the new Russian team stacks up in a best on best tournament soon.

World Cup 2016 :yo:

You'll have to wait longer, unless the NHL can work out an agreement with the KHL to hold the World Cup in late June or early July.

Ovechkin and Malkin are willing to fly to Europe (home) because people in Russia really care about the WHC. Unlike-wise, Canadian players don't want to fly to Europe (away from home) for a tournament people at home keep saying they don't care. So can you really blame the Canadian players? Some Canadian fans want it all. They say they don't care, yet whine that the players don't care to participate. Either you care or you don't.

Hah, Fasel giving medals to the refs.

Who would watch Hockey or even play in early July unless they bring their television screens to the beaches. It should be in February if anything at all.

what the ****?

we need to keep losing or what? This team had 14 new players with a few proven NHLers. It's not like we had an Olympic team on the ice.
