Znarok admitted it before the game already, iltasanomat asked about it from the IIHF and they said there's a loophole in the rules and they can do nothing about it.

Morally wrong, yes, to most people. But technically it's not considered cheating.

And it is not like a mere microphone was enough to fully replace Znarok's physical presence on the player bench.

Woosh... :shakehead ... Such high horse. Getting a ban for a sore throat is "morally wrong" :sarcasm:
In most sports and their respective leagues, receiving a coaching ban means that you aren't allowed to be in any contact with the team, especially during the game. This is a loophole the IIHF failed to adress, that will more than likely be fixed by the next tournament.

People have different views about their sense of morality, or lack thereof. The loophole was within the rules and Russia had every right to take advantage of it. But would, say Westerlund have done it? I doubt it.

During the olympics,i go through a nervous break down watching canada...its so much pressure.....if canada wins the WHC i'd just be like...ya...ok thats kinda neat .....i can't even get up for a game....what does anyone really get from this tournament other than watching the dumbest of hockey fans from any nation either sulk or cheer in elation of something that really doesnt mean ****....best players right now are playing for the cup...for international champions see 2010 and 2014 olympics. the only best on best tournament played

So wait the russian coach how was banned from the game had a microphone communication with the A-coach and Finland was given 28 mins of penalties with a few clear dives. If this would have been fair i would have been ok with it, but that Russian team of allstars been given 28 powerplay minutes and having a banned coach with secret microphones :handclap:

Tell me where are all those stars? Ovi and Geno are all stars?
A banned coach is a disgrace of IIHF.

I like you always ignoring 2006 Olympics when you were kicked pretty easily. You mention only those you won. Is it a tactic or Turin completely erased from your mind?

Is Brandon Prust, for example, one of the best players in the world? Is Dan Carcillo on of the best players in the world? You also conviniently left out the 2006 olympics. Also, what doesn't matter in the holy land of Canada doesn't matter in other countries? You can have your opinion but please, don't pass it as a fact.

If someone should get off their high horse, it's you.

ya i remember turin....i also remember that it is one of only 4 instances in the history of hockey where a best on best tournament didnt result in canada victorious

72 summit series,
76,84,87,91, 2004 canada cup/world cup of hockey
2002, 2010, 2014 olympics

whats russia done since the best were allowed to play on the big stage 12 years ago...absolutely dick.

we were put through ultimate pressure cooker 4 years ago and took gold...under the same circumstances russia cracked and choked.

Why? I thought it's obvious. Two coaches call names and exchange gestures in a heat. Normal hockey conversation. What IIHF has to do with these talks? Pay no attention is the best way.

Talks? Obscene gestures and coaches throwing fits have been penalized before in international events as well as the NHL and this kind of behavior will not be tolerated now or in the future in any league or tournament. Coaches need to maintain their composure. IIHF did nothing wrong. You cannot fine in a tournament like this, therefore you punish by way of ban.

I believe if it wasn't the end of the game, Znaroks would have just been ejected and that may have been the end of it.

Turning discussion in the wrong direction is a simple and primitive move.
So you failed in Turin, no matter how many other champs you won.
And to consider one puck difference in 72's as a great win. Isn't it a shame to mention it? Also losing 8:1 having the very best team ever in Canada Cup is a clear sign you are Gods in hockey. I'm really tired of this canadian total superiority crap over these forums. Sometimes teams win, sometimes they lose. But considering one nation as superious is very western type of thinking.

I disagree entirely. Were there physical actions? No? Forget about it. People just thrown some steam. Emotions are normal in hockey. Too much tolerance is above me to understand. People becomes robots in result.

Still, hockey organisations don't consent to coaches throwing fits and they are expected to keep their composure.

I guess it was cute and only deserved a smile. Our life becomes overregulated these days and we are losing our freedom of expression because of millions of dumb rules.

Right... It's not like you can just throw fits at your workplace without repercussions.

In a heated emotional argument? Why not? Saw it several times and nothing happened after people cooled down. Shaked hands and everything forgotten. Or this is rare in tolerating Europe these days? Everything, every single emotion must be punished?

There is so much pure Canadian Russia-hate pouring off of your post, my monitor is actually dripping! If you are so self-assured that Canada is better than Russia, why do get so jacked up and emotional about it? Hopefully, you don't have a gun and are headed for the mall or anything. Take a pill and relax.

Nagano 98...

Also, World Cup of Hockey was an exhibition / farewell tournament before a long lock-out. It was not "best on best"...

congrats to fellow fans of Russia! In a year of failed OG tournament it's a small, but very pleasant delight!

Losing some more would perhaps encourage more drastic changes assuming those are needed in junior development and in implementing a different approach to the whole sport. One that could perhaps look at systems and playing as a team more than the current one. There may have been some progress towards that just lately
If it worked that way, three failed Olympics in a row would be more than enough, a disaster at home Olympics alone would be enough. Unfortunately, they continue to scapegoat coaches and reroll.

And frankly speaking, results of the world championships should not influence any decisions regarding development of hockey in any given country. It's still a joke tourney that doesn't mean much. You may get ironic about Canadians overhyping the World Juniors, but those tournaments represent the state of national hockey programs in a much better way.

Threatening gestures are bad, so is foul language. On the other hand, this is no school for noble maidens, it is a powerful and tough sport for powerful and tough men and often emotions run high. If Swedish ladies cannot handle tough and are overly distressed by a strong language/gestures thrown their way, then, perhaps, figure skating is more their palate.
