Congratulations on rigged win from our D team, Russia!

http://m.iltasanomat.fi/videotuomarit/art-1288693400842.html?ref=og-ref-t.co

They say they are embarrassed to be hockey person as this kind of farce can happen and things can be so flat out clearly rigged and on purpose. They say its worse than any football fixed match scandal ever, and IIHF has embarassed this tournament that already lack credibility for ever. They say it doesn't matter if it was done for Finland, it still would be so disgusting it couldn't be tolerated.

Can't blame them because they are right. Referees ruined the whole competition, absolutely, never felt so disgusted about a game even after a slept night, when I'm usually able to congratulate the opponent.

They did even change the book keeping of the game to "hide" the fact that Russia got free extra powerplay, what erkka also argued on the ice when it happened. Russia scored a goal just after other finnish penalty on 5 vs 3 had ended, but they still kept the 5 on 4 going on, even thought it should have clearly been 5 on 5 play. They claimed that other penalty had not ended. Then they realized every one are going to see it sooner or later and changed the book keeping of the game afterwards during the intermission. Here's the link: http://www.uusisuomi.fi/urheilu/69388-suomi-venaja-ottelun-toimitsijat-korjailivat-poytakirjaa-kuvat They also said Russian coach didin't even act like he was banned from the game.

This game was most rigged "sports" ever aguess. Urheilulehti guys also said that this shows that we should give not World Championships to corrupt countries like Belarus. I was very happy with the atmosphere in belarus, but aguess that doesn't matter, the corruption ruined the whole competition. As long as Putin kills us with nukes or other ways, it will be talked about when Russia plays hockey. It will never be forgot.

That said, even though it will never be forgotten or forgiven that it was rigged competition, we didin't score enough from our chances.. we hit the posts at the best. It was not our day. Also the referees, while deciding the game with ridiculous non calls against Russia and then right after that calling soft penalties for Finland after those, still gave Finland couple of PP's. We could've scored and win even the rigged game, we DID have our chance. I would be so happy if we just lose fairly like that, but it was so much affected by the reffing.

I guess it was cute and only deserved a smile. Our life becomes overregulated these days and we are losing our freedom of expression because of millions of dumb rules.

In a heated emotional argument? Why not? Saw it several times and nothing happened after people cooled down. Shaked hands and everything forgotten. Or this is rare in tolerating Europe these days? Everything, every single emotion must be punished?

You as a Russian honestly feel comfortable preaching "tolerating Europe" about freedom of expression?

Threatening gestures are bad, so is foul language. On the other hand, this is no school for noble maidens, it is a powerful and tough sport for powerful and tough men and often emotions run high. If Swedish ladies cannot handle tough and are overly distressed by a strong language/gestures thrown their way, then, perhaps, figure skating is more their palate.

And just why not? Znarok expressed himself freely and see what it got him. Some tolerant Europe. :shakehead

Do I really need to spell it out?

I think you will find that making death threats is criminalized in most countries, and as such conseptually would not fall under "freedom of expression". I don't know what the situation is in Russia, though, if indeed culturally it is considered as a part of normal parlance.

One could also point out that an IIHF ruling per se has nothing to do with freedom of expression.

**** this. 5-on-5 Finland was the better team. Too bad the game was played 5-on-7.

Congratz Russia, **** refs! The only good thing about Russia's victory is that we don't have to march to the border

I like you always ignoring 2006 Olympics when you were kicked pretty easily. You mention only those you won. Is it a tactic or Turin completely erased from your mind?
We haven't forgotten 2006 since you guys keep bringing that out. We had an awful Olympic in 2006 for some reason. Sure we lost to Russia, but we also had many other difficulties throughout with other much weaker teams. Nobody is saying Canada won every Olympics. Of course not, but at least we can say that we've won the last two. That's better than any other national team. So until Russia ran boast the same result, you're inferior.

Congratulations on rigged win from our D team, Russia!

Many Finns were complaining that at the Olympics, we used North American referees at all major games including Canada's games. Which do you prefer now?

In a heat of an argument some words and gestures get thrown around. [mod] As for the tolerance, no, thanks, I'll take real emotional ALIVE person over nice little overcontrolled robots any day.

Call it whatever you like. Everyone could see it, it was so obvious.

I am not a Russian and not a Finn. So I could see it from the third side.
Refs made many mistakes all over the tournament including the final. But you cannot say that Finns were better 5-on-5. Simply beacuse they couldn't score even in PP.

Pros.

I hear you and agree about the PP. Still I honestly think Finland was controlling the game 5-on-5. Of course that means nothing if you can't capitalize on your chances or draw penalties and put it away on PP.

Ok. Death threat gestures fall under freedom of speech and calling out what looks corrupted officiating is whining? Go Russia.

And without a doubt you have clear and undisputable proof of a pro-Russian corruption? Or is it just a usual collection of common prejudices? (hint: "BUT IT IS OBVIOUS" does not hold water argument-wise)

First congratulations on the win Russia... Your PP was better than ours this time (damn why didn't those posts go in ).

Almost everything has been said about reffing on this game so lets just say it was horrible on both ways.

The only thing that keeps bugging me is the cross-check to the head on Haula by Malkin.
I just don't get it why there wasn't a penalty for that. The puck was being played in the corner so one of the refs must have been looking there.
I got the feeling they didn't have balls to whistle on that hit because in every other game it would have been major.

The whole thing got out of control after that. Maybe it would have been a lot more cleaner game had there been even a minor penalty.

Oh well, it's all history now.

Does anyone think Prague can eclipse this attendance record by Minsk in terms of attendance, it's been eclipsed each time an event has been held there and even the TSN commentator said, if you go to any World Championships, you go to Prague. Should be a doozy 2015, World Juniors record should be broken and then perhaps World Championships, what a year it's setting up to be!

They have less of a purpose than Belarus to fill the arenas so no. It sounds crude, but to some extent this world champs has had well attended games because it was set in a country where not all people can make their choices all that freely.

During the game with Russia US was also controlling game and made almost twice more shots. What was the result? Russia won 6:1 ;)

I think you need to read more about ancient Rome and gladiators

Let me guess... You have never been outside you home town, right? :D Or someone has been telling you tales about post-Soviet countries in general and Belarus in particular. In either case, poor you. :(

I've visited 28 countries in europe and the US outside of it.

I am not saying that people are forced into games; but that there is a huge need in Belarus to send an extremely good picture of themselves with this spotlight. Encouraging people in different ways to see the games is part of that. Look at the average wages in Belarus. The entire higher middle class can't be crazy about hockey.. There is bound to be quite a few free tickets etc.

Yes bloody KGB drove people into ice-arena. And the price (from 6 to 60 Euro) has nothing to do with the attendance :)
