I loved that goal by Spezza. The whole play. Oilers putting McDavid out against our 4th line thinking they would cash in on a weaker line. That diving poke pass by Muzzin to Vesey was epic, and Vesey didn't pass it into Spezza's feet, so that was a positive. Spezza showed real speed there, and smart deke/snipe... he continues to turn back the clock this season.

That beauty dive poke pass was actually Brodie.

Certainly looked like their instructions were to check the McDavid line and try to keep in the the Oilers zone as much as possible. Engvall in particular was not leaving McDavid's side when he was matched up with him, and between him and Soup those guys are both tall, lanky and fast enough to make things difficult for him and like last night, maybe even stop him once in awhile

It is such a short season, I'd like to see them leave that line alone and work on the other lines.

Mikheyev - 66 games
Engvall - 65 games

Maybe Mikheyev isn't as offensive as we hoped, or maybe it's about confidence.

But if they can win head to head battles against other bottom 6, and go even against top 6, I'm happy.

in all fairness to marleau, he was good his first year. the 2nd year the problem was "the streak" so they refused to rest him at all and it clearly showed.

Didn’t Marleau score 27 goals his first year with Leafs? He was actually really good that first year, it’s dumb to shit on the guy because Lou gave him three years

He has had some terrible luck too. He had a prime scoring chance on a one-timer yesterday and his stick shattered on him. Wouldn't be surprised if that was a goal if it didn't shatter on him.

I find it hilarious that before the game Edmonton fans were chirping the Leafs and Keefe for saying Matthews had been battling a wrist injury all season, and then at the end of last night Tippet mentions how Draisaitl has been battling an injury (as an excuse for his crap play last night) and they all just nod along.

How does one become a number one?

If bona fide number one becomes available and the Leafs can fit him/her under the cap I don't think anyone would complain.
We're not going to find it out this season. We're in first place. We're riding Andersen into the playoffs and beyond. Despite how well a 66 game career backup plays. To think otherwise is ridiculous.

ye his 1st year was good here. it was the 2nd year things started going south with him.

Re Campbell yes lack of experience is the big one. Also he didn't figure out the game until a couple years ago
This is kind of false. He was never given a shot to even be a backup until a few years ago. He was given 1 game in the NHL by the Stars, the team that drafted him, which he allowed 6 goals in. His next game didn't come for another 3 season after he moved to the Kings.

AHL Stats
Jack Campbell
202 GP 2.74 GAA .910 SV% 14 Shutouts
Jordan Binnington
164 GP 2.48 GAA .915 SV% 10 Shutouts

Comparing these 2 because neither one of them were given a shot until later.

Thought this one was pretty funny.

Trust me, the rest of Canadian fans absolutely can’t stand this right now lol.

My non leafs fans have totally admitted how much they hate how much better the leafs are than their team.

My friends outside of Ontario are also telling me people are absolutely rattled with the leafs right now, especially with even more media coverage than before.

If we make it to the conference finals, or imagine, win the cup, you’ll see the absolute worst side of everyone lol.
