Matt Rempe hit on Nathan Bastian (No Hearing)

Definitely the right call. Bastian is too vulnerable there and no room to move in the boards, you can’t go full freight train even if it’s not a high hit.
 
Main point of contact clearly the head, Rempe should have pulled up or adjusted his angle. Good call.
 
5 and a game is justified

A couple game suspension is also justified

Where his height does come into play is when trying to figure out intent. Because if there’s legitimate intent here, this is a 4+ game suspension. But I don’t think there was clear intent here. What there was is a really tall player not doing enough to get lower on a hit, which alone is worthy of a couple of games. For better or worse, his height gives him plausible deniability on intent though, so I don’t think you can suspend past a couple of games. That and a lack of history.

Got thrown out of the game for being too big. This league is insane. They get more calls wrong than right and make up new interpretations for their calls each time.

I felt bad for the guy he destroyed. Trouba train hit him after he returned and then the guy got angry and tried to fight Trouba.

When you get destroyed like that and have facial injuries, you should not be allowed back. Bad for a player’s long term health, even if they are cleared. Have to be thinking about the future of these players.

Do you have to defend the hit to say it's not charging? Or that it wasn't an intent to target the head in a predatory manner? Is the line really 1 foot to your left/1 foot to your right?
 
I’m okay with that being two for charging. He got onto the ice and literally looked to throw a hit. His feet were on the ground, but I think you can still call that charging to look for a hit like that from such a distance.

What I’m not okay with is anyone who exclaims he hit him in the head or tried to injure him or that it’s a match penalty or suspension. If that’s your stance, just admit you want to start mandating the maximum height/weight requirement in the NHL. A player shouldn’t have to go out of their way to not hit players hard because they are big. It’s probably going to cause more of an injury when they are big, but the guy was crouched and is way shorter than Rempe. Of course he’s going to make head contact. Rempe doesn’t lead with his elbow and his feet are on the ground. If the guy wasn’t in such a bad position or he didn’t get injured, no one would claim the hit was so bad.

I knew he was a bigger guy, but I had to double check Bastian's height for a second. Rempe and Edstrom make him look like he's 5'10'' in that clip.

Borderline hit and shouldn't be suspendable, but maybe Rempe deserves to be suspended for a game or two to teach him to hold back a little bit. At his size, a lot of players are going to be injured if he's doing that every game

Even the NYR don't think he is a real NHL player given his ice time.

There is no reason to have enforcers that can't even be a decent AHL player in the NHL anymore.

Note how I wrote “in this manner”

Also hitting somebody into a stanchion is not the same as a direct head shot. The stanchion shot has nothing to do with anybody’s size, a 6’1 guy could have done that. My entire point is people are using Rempe’s size as an excuse and it’s a dumb one, Chara wasn’t head shotting people his entire career like he would if he had no choice due to his height

I expect better from you!

Yeah I’m not comparing the hits, you’re the one who brought the stanchion hit up.

The size is a dumb excuse, sorry! It is what it is! If it wasn’t Chara would have headshotted everyvody over 20 years and he clearly didn’t. It’s not that hard of a point to comprehend

You brought up Chara, somehow being the poster boy of clean hits while being a big guy, which I am saying is dale stale horseshit.
