And on the receiving player to not put himself in a vulnerable spot. The onus is always on the guy throwing the hit to do it safely. When the first point of contact is the shoulder pad (A hard piece of plastic) to the head, it's a match penalty all day long in my book. That being said, I don't think he intended to head-shot the guy, but it happened. It's really no different than Dillon's hit a couple weeks back. The intent is to throw a clean, hard check. But sometimes it turns out to be a car-wreck and not a picasso.
What are you even talking about
No, the 'guy' had *himself* in a vulnerable position. Thats not of Rempe's doing.Didn't look that bad until your realize he had a guy in a vulnerable position. Elbow right to the head. No need for that.
Yeah, he's a big boy. I'm sure I'll be called bias because I'm a NYR fan, but I don't think there was intent to injure, or intent to throw a predatory hit. I don't even think there's intent to target the head. Those are words fans love to toss around. However, there's clearly an intent to hit and he's a big, big boy, and needs to be aware of his surroundings. It doesn't matter if you standing straight up and another player is coming straight at you. He has to have better awareness of players in vulnerable situations, or just situations where a bad outcome is likely. A simply stop while turning his body and nobody questions anything, even if Bastian still has his head hit. But he's driving right through a player here in a situation where all you need is puck separation. I don't know that this warrants more than the game he already received. But I can see the debate for more games because in the end it still falls on the player to be more aware. I think not taking it further in suspension is the right call.I knew he was a bigger guy, but I had to double check Bastian's height for a second. Rempe and Edstrom make him look like he's 5'10'' in that clip.
Borderline hit and shouldn't be suspendable, but maybe Rempe deserves to be suspended for a game or two to teach him to hold back a little bit. At his size, a lot of players are going to be injured if he's doing that every game
1st one doesn't look good. Looks like pure head shot.
2nd one doesn't look that bad at all, actually. Looks like body and head all at same time.
this ain’t it dude. It was a hit to the head.
He seemed fine when he returned earlier
It has already been reported earlier in the threat that there will be no supplementary discipline.Agreed.
It's all going to come down to if the DoPS feels like he hit solidly to the core of the players body. That makes the head contact legal.
When I saw the first angle I thought it was definitely going to be a lengthy suspension. Seeing the reverse angle I'm not so sure. He catches him to the head in a brutal way but also does get a lot of the upper chest.
My guess is 2 games but who knows.
oh I missed that! Thanks. It has already been reported earlier in the threat that there will be no supplementary discipline.
Picture is all I need to give him 5 games. What are we doing hereYeah, he's a big boy. You're right he should have asked the other NYR to not partially check him then. And on the receiving player to not put himself in a vulnerable spot.
You're right that it doesn't really matter. With the instigator, Bastian would have gotten an additional 10 minute misconduct, but he ended up leaving the game anyway.I was fine with the major in game, I'm also fine with no suspension. He caught too much of the head to be unpunished but wasn't intentional enough to warrant a suspension.
Ranger fans need to stop crying about Bastian not getting an instigator after the Trouba hit though, they gave him an extra for roughing so ya'll still got the PP.
Dumbest comment yetTold ya there wouldn't be a suspension. Head contact was unavoidable.

It's just annoying that every time Trouba lands a hit like that, he ends up having to fight and is lost for 5 minutes. I'm not going to argue with you about how clean those hits are, but even you must admit that his hit on Bastian was clean. Trouba shouldn't need to defend himself and then sit in the box for 5 minutes just because he landed a good, clean hit.
It is just getting tiresome how often he has to deal with guys coming after him on legal hits. IMO teams that start fights over legal hits ought to face a steeper penalty.Ranger fans need to stop crying about Bastian not getting an instigator after the Trouba hit though, they gave him an extra for roughing so ya'll still got the PP.
I'm fine with it, game happens fast and on the ice they don't have the benefit of slow-motion replays, he'd already taken a questionable hit in the game, and then got lit up by a player known for throwing questionable hits and took exception to it.You're right that it doesn't really matter. The NHL owes Rempe an apology.
I don't know if you saw but I explained my position on the fight after as well, and thanks for the compliment most people don't even notice my name.It is just getting tiresome how often he has to deal with guys coming after him on legal hits.
