Matt Greene doesn't score in the shootout AGAIN, Kings lose 2-1

Missing the playoffs this year but hey, we won 2 cups in 3 years. Hey, the Sharks are missing the playoffs, who cares if the Kings do...

That mentality needs to stop. Do you guys not want the Kings to defend their title? I don't get it. Do you not want to enjoy playoff hockey? They've made the playoffs for 5 straight seasons, do you not want to enjoy another playoff run?

I'd love to see them forge a long standing streak of making the playoffs for 20+ consecutive seasons while also being considered a strong contender for the Cup (which obviously won't happen for 20+ straight years but if you're in, that increases your chances).

Not a single person on this board gets on the ice for the LA Kings. It doesn't matter what we want.

The Kings will either gut it out and make it or not. Its that simple.

That's not my point. I just feel like this board is OK with the Kings missing the playoffs because they won 2 cups in 3 years. Do you guys (not necessarily YOU demacles) not want to see them celebrate another? Or get to keep a close eye on the team you support every 2nd day throughout the months of April/May/June? Im over the days of studying for the draft lol :shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

If it means success next year, yes it's okay to miss. It's been such a weird seaon.

Seen two cups in three years(both in person) , before that , 24 years of nothing but the black hole of losing. I am greatful for what the core players have done for me. If the Kings miss the playoffs its unfortunate . But not going to lose too much sleep over it.

The great thing is Calgary plays Winnipeg at the end of the year. One team at the minimum will lose at least a point. Not much else positive I can say tonight.

Of course we want them to celebrate another. They just don't have the legs this season, so a little rest won't hurt. They need to shake up the roster and they'll be right back in the races. As long as they have the core group: Doughty, Kopi, Carter, and Quick they will be ok.

If they make it great, if not try again next year.

This team failing to qualify for the playoffs while Calgary or Winnipeg gets in is unacceptable. Not on their part because those teams have worked their tails off and deserve to be in it due to the work they've put into being in the position they're in. You can't take that away from them. They've also had to overcome some serious injuries to their lineups.

However, it is the way the Kings have performed all season long and their inability to close out games and their failure in OT and in shootouts that has been so frustrating. This team has underachieved, and seeing a team this good fail to qualify for the playoffs makes me question what is wrong with them. This team is too good to miss the post season.

Think of it this way, you could be a Sharks/Canucks/Blues fan. With zero cups to witness or celebrate.

Seriously if the Kings score 97 point and miss the playoff . Would you be angry ? That is three point away from last seasons mark.

97 points if the boys get there is still a good season ironicly , even with that horrendous OT record.

I think most of us would LOVE them to go ahead and make more history, but at the same time, it's pretty clear how gassed our players are, it shows in every third period. Throw that into our list of issues this year and I'm impressed we're still challenging for a spot. Truth is, as bummed as I would be about the Kings missing the show, the silver lining is we'd be back even stronger next year. It's win-win, imo.

Mother nature, she's a B**TCH!!!

There's nothing we can do about it if they miss the playoffs. Everyone wants them to make it, but at the same time, it's a lot easier to take if they don't with two recent Cup wins. Two. From the Kings. A mostly irrelevant franchise for 45 years. Two of those bad boys.

As fans, we're at the mercy of the players physical, emotional, and mental capacity.

15 points just handed away in OT/SO this year. 15.

Hope Sutter takes that cavalier attitude he has about the shootout and shoves it up his ass. "Not taking the shootout seriously" is going to cost the team an embarrassing playoff miss.

Bravo.

The shootout is one part of the game that Sutter has zero control over, other than choosing the players to shot. Shoots are a pure one-on-one battle of shooter v. goalie.

Maybe stronger next year. We have no idea. That's why the Cup wins are special. They may not get close again. There's just no way of knowing.

I think it's more of an aging thing that causes more fatigue during the season.

I don't get the fatigue thing. They still had 2 whole months of no hockey. How are you still tired after 2 months?

It's a cumulative thing. You just witnessed it. On more than one occasion and more often lately.

edit: And you have to give Doughty a pass. Dude is basically running on fumes!

Oh I totally concur, I guess I just mean it's a summer of rest for guys who haven't done that in forever instead of having surgeries, etc. and coming right back. It will also force changes from DL, he can't hold onto the cup team forever, especially if they miss the playoffs, which means an infusion of youth (and the corresponding growing pains, of course). We may not be better, and the younger teams like TB, Isles, etc. may finally fully surpass us, that was bound to happen with time anyway; but the way it is right now, these guys are playing like the 2013 playoff Kings, they just don't look right and everyone knows it.

Long-term wear and tear is a little different than you and I running a mile :P It's why running backs are out of the game at 30.

Edit: and to your Chicago point they don't play a physical game as much as we do (or rely on it, anyway) and look at how much turnover there was between their cup teams.
