Matt Greene doesn't score in the shootout AGAIN, Kings lose 2-1

I sure hope they don't, but you have to think that was a huge win for them last night. Had we won I would be cloud 9 today

Yeah, they won a big game...twice now. That would be the equivalent of us wrecking the Blackhawks in two late-season games in a row to lock down a playoff spot and keep them from catching us. Wouldn't it be hard to not be excited about showing you can bust thru your nemesis?

There are some delusions of grandeur sure, and it would be nice if it didn't spill onto our forum, but I'm sure Van fans were fist pumping across their living rooms the same way I was when we re-entered the playoff picture.

Are we still sure we want to face these clowns in the playoffs if we get there?

Beggars can't be choosers. And with the loss last night, the 2015 Kings have definitely dropped themselves into the "beggars" category when it comes to post-season play at all, much less opponent choice.

And they have only themselves to blame. Completely.

Agreed.

I think that was the one point we can afford to give away and it's to a team who played us straight up almost all game with almost equal results the whole time. Not a bad hockey game, the only thing that really leaves a sour taste is losing a third period lead yet again, and even that would be excusable at another point in the year, just not now.

No offense to EDM and CAL, but neither team has been able to play us straight up and win. If we play our game and actually hang onto a third period lead these are wins. SJ I'm less sure about because it seems like they're already looking ahead to Saturday, they're gonna be on cloud 9 if they get to eliminate us from the playoffs, which is looking like a big possibility if we don't **** it up before then. I'm just hoping these guys have some energy left because they looked done by the third last night.

It won't be 'revenge' by any measure but it's a start.

What is our record against western playoff teams this year? It must be pretty bad.

Chicago 1-2
Minnesota 2-1
Nashville 0-1-2
St. Louis 2-1
Winnipeg 1-1-1
Anaheim 1-1-3
Calgary 1-1-2
Vancouver 3-1-1

TOTAL: 11-9-10

Over .500 -- but looked at another way, 11 wins in 29 games...

"IF" the Kings gets in I really don't care who they play aside from avoiding Chicago.

Sutter has been saying it for awhile now, all these teams are so close. I think the teams with the hot goalies are in the best position. Playoffs are a whole different animal tho.

Tough game last night. Lack made some big saves.

I still think LA is the better team but it doesn't really mean much at this point.

I like Vancouver's coach but they just don't strike me as a real contender. Stranger things have happened.

To me the ridiculous over reacting by any team that beats us at this time of year is nothing more than an absolute compliment. We broke the Cantnucks to the point of them having to entirely fix themselves and if they think that team is a potential cup champ then all I have to say is wait and see. We did the same thing to the Sharks Coyotes and Blues to a certain extent (though their recovery took much less time due their having actual depth). Every team we have just owned over the past 3 seasons (post seasons anyway) are getting their shot at our diminished tired team this time around so it is a GIANT thing for them but just a tiny bump in the road for us. It's a compliment. A testimony to how dominant we have been and how bitterly they wanted us to remain the doormat of the west. Things have changed and IF - IF we miss the playoffs this season we will be right back on top again next season The Can'tnucks and a few of our other opponents have this one single season to give it their all. I like our chances at another cup in the next two seasons more so then any other team coming out of the west.

Well said. A year without Voynov, Pearson going down, and now Sekera have put a strain on this team.

The blown leads and OT horrors are what is tough to see after a few years of being dominate closers.

Kings can still win their next three games but as much as I don't think Vancouver is a legit contender, I'm not sure LA really is either. They have the pedigree tho and have proven themselves time and again when the odds are against them.

No Sekera hurts a LOT with Doughty being completely fried. Martinez has stepped up yet again thankfully but if we can survive long enough to get our complete lineup back sans Voynov we're a force even if everyone that's played for the last few years is a complete zombie. Quick is rising to the occasion, feels like 2013 again.

Hey, let's also not forget that the Canucks only scored one goal. We did as well, but if they believe they slayed a mythical dragon because they won the skills competition, I get the feeling they're ripe for a letdown.

They played strong and we played like absolute dog **** for the better part of the last 40 minutes and that's what it took for the Canucks to eek out a win.

15 points just handed away in OT/SO this year. 15.

Hope Sutter takes that cavalier attitude he has about the shootout and shoves it up his ass. "Not taking the shootout seriously" is going to cost the team an embarrassing playoff miss.

Bravo.

I agree, even if they had won 7 of those, that 7 points now would be the differene
But Sutter doens't see it that way, post game (from LA Kings inisder sutter comments ) he didn't think the OT/SO lost the game , he felt it was lost in regulation
.
On how tough the loss was, given the penalty killing and strong road effort:
There weren’t many penalties. What was it, two or three each? So that wasn’t really a factor in the game. I think both teams, other than I think that last game in Los Angeles, I don’t think special teams even have been a factor just because of the respect you have for both teams in terms of the special teams. You know what? We had lots of opportunities when it was one-nothing in the second period. Lack made some great saves, as did Jonathan. It was the difference in the game. It’s not overtime or shootout. The difference in the game was probably those great chances when it’s regulation.

I understand what he's alluding to , but it's not the first time he's made a comment about OT/SO and that he takes them lightly. Teams that put an emphasis on practicing SO' regularly, probably win more SO.

The put themselves in this very bad position when they blew that 7 game homestand before the all star break.

I don't think they'll win all 3, not the way playing. Last night was a game they should have been motivated for, recognizing the importance and once again, they play poorly in almost every area. I think they should win tonight, but that doesn't mean they will. And I don't see them beating the Flames.

And Rosen posted this morning that there is no practice today, just a team meeting at noon.

Why do any of us care what another fan base is celebrating? Seems a little creepy and obsessive to me, honestly.

How many fans on this board were having "dreams of home ice" after the two-game win streak that just snapped? Just saying...

That was always a stretch, even if they did win last night. Especially given Vancouver's up-coming opponents.

Well like I said, I think we'd be jacked too had we picked up the win, but it's being oversold.

Meh, I'd have more of the 'keep it going' attitude and less of the 'statement game **** yeah' bit.

I'm just referring to what I'm reading in here. I honestly don't care.

Yes but it is this exact same Cantnucks team that claimed a "MORAL VICTORY" last year in a losing effort. Sad team for that nonsense. That said they looked better then they have over the past 4 seasons last night so maybe they can make it out of the first round for the first time in a long time. We played bad enough to give that team the chance to beat us in a shootout. Meh on us and them.

I don't get it. Everyone is so jacked that they beat the Kings twice this year. Congrats.

What's not to get? It's sports. Long time division/conference rival. Defending champ. Three consecutive conference finals. Sitting in 9th place, the Kings are still a measuring stick, even if the myth around the Kings is maybe a little more potent on a consistent basis than the actual team this year.

I'm not sure if anyone cares so much as just make fun of the seemingly excessive celebration. I was noticing the Kings players watching them intently. Going to be a real interesting first round match-up.
