I've been pleasantly surprised by Zucca. He's more involved than during his first stint, and he's also playing under control. I thought his addition to the team wouldn't do much for us. I was wrong.

8) Mats Zuccarello. Not only did he distract the ballerina/figure skater/whatever Jeff Skinner and then the clowns Larose and Bergeron, to allow Derick Brassard to score the 2-0 goal, but he also threw a big hit right at the start of the shift to pop the puck loose near the blue line. I’ve said it before, It think he’s been a bigger addition that Ryane Clowe or Brassard or John Moore. And I wonder if there’s any doubt that he has to be re-signed.

Torts comments on zuke;

On Zuccarello, “He is much better. I have Brass, Clowey and it’s not working. I have Brass, Kreider and Nasher playing and they are doing nothing. We put Richards and Zucc with Nasher and he takes off. Zucc makes people better. He has such a great offensive instinct. I think he just makes people better. Where he has come from where we let him go to where he came back, he has been a huge plus.”

Must admit, I am a bit scared about what happens if Zucc does not get the required 12 games in the playoffs (but, what a double victory if he does) and goes UFA.
Although Zucc has gained the confidence of Torts now, I think we can agree that he is not the ideal coach for a player like Zucc.
With his play being recognised around the league these days, his puck possession metrics scoring off the charts, and point production increasing I can definitely see his marked value rising quickly.

So, with the combination more money and possibly a club that values creativity to a higher degree it may be tough to get the beloved hobbit back to the shire.

What are your guys thoughts on this?

I got a feeling the Rangers will have to pay more than planned to keep him. But Zucc said he just wants to be a Ranger, he doesn't care about the money. Question is how much truth he puts into that, time will show.

It'll probably be a mix. He'll take a little less, the Rangers will give a little more.

Indeed it does. He stated as late as 28.03.2013 that he was aiming for a long term contract with the Rangers when it was announced that he had signed again.

If there is any doubt, hopefully the cameraderie in the locker room will be the decider

Apparently Zucc lives with Hags in NJ, did anyone know that?

Just found that out today from a friend who lives on the same block as them.

According to his friend which actually went with Mats and lived with him in Russia and has been in NY a few weeks
He lives on Manhattan 5-10 minutes from MSG. Atleast he did so a week ago.

Mats har nå fått installert seg i en fin 2-roms leilighet på Manhattan. Leiligheten ligger 30 minutters kjøring fra treningsanlegget og 5-10 minutter fra selveste MSG.
google translates it like this:
Mats has been installed in a nice 2-bedroom apartment in Manhattan. The apartment is located 30 minutes drive from the training facility and 5-10 minutes from MSG

They are different kinds of players but Zooks skating stride reminds me a little of the way Pierre Larouche used to skate.

His passing on the fourth goal today was world class. Two outstanding passes in about three seconds for the assist. Play of the game for me.

Pierre was one of my all time faves, I see what ya mean. Wish he had his shot, but I'll take his passing skills and the smarts he's been exhibiting the last few weeks. This is the guy I remember from the last Olympics, always involved and creating chances.

Agreed, gained the zone nicely, makes a great pass that covered alot of territory, then the pass up high to the sniper. Beauty.

"Kovalchuk had the best seat in the house on that one"

If Zooks could shoot like Pierre and pass like Zooks already does he would be an awesome player but I'm still happy with the 2nd or 3rd line Zooks that we have now.

Mats Zuccarello recorded an assist and posted a plus-two rating in 14:58 of ice time. He tallied six points (three goals, three assists) in the final seven games of the season.

Zooks ended up with 8 points and a plus 10 in 15 games overall. He also had the shootout game winner. I think he did pretty good after a slow start point wise.
