And additionally, MSL didn't have his first season above 40 points until he was 27 years old. I'd rather not be the Calgary Flames on this deal. Bring him back.

Without a moments hesitation at this point.

He's been the impact player he was not first time around. The creativity and hockey sense are in evidence on many of his shifts. The way he thinks the game has been the most pleasant part to observe. Maybe the best in that department. Certainly not the best execution wise, but he's close to wizard like out there.

Next line mate I'd give him to jump start would be Kreider.

Also heard that, but thought it was a different female reporter. Don't think its that Elin something that were all over the place the last two years.

Yes it's her, Elin Flaglien. But this time she asks more intelligent questions, and Torts behaves more like a gentleman.

Below, her TV2 story from yesterday's presser. She tells exactly what Torts said, and also talked to Nash and Richards about Zucc. She's doing an okay job.

Btw, 76% of Norwegians believe the Rangers will not win the Stanley Cup ;)

Wrong Elin. The one from the last couple of years is Elin Sørsdahl.
Elin Flaglien is young and cute, the other one is an old hag.

Btw i know this because i had a heated e-mail discussion with her after one of the games in march last year hehe.
This explains why she is asking questions not just about Zucc though. Guess they found someone with atleast a pinch of hockey intrest.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Zucca. He's more involved than during his first stint, and he's also playing under control. I thought his addition to the team wouldn't do much for us. I was wrong.

What I came here to post. He is much more involved in all facets of the game this go-round. Very happy to be wrong. Had a huge impact.

Zuke BETTER be on this team next year. He's much more well-rounded than his stats and size would indicate and simply makes this team more dangerous.

Oh really?
Thanks for telling me.

Yes there's a pic of the new Elin in that article, she doesn't look bad at all. No wonder Torts has changed his attitude..

Does anyone have the video of the post game interviews? Torts? Nash? Richards?

I guess you already know about the Blueshirts site.

As for the Norwegian reporters, they don't seem to bring a tv-camera.

So, it's not really about the questions. It's how you ask them:)

"Also Nash is delighted with his fellow Norwegian variety.

- It's fun to play with Zuccarello. He has many good qualities, has good technique and uses his long stick to his advantage. So it's fun.

Brian Richards is also full of praise for the newly composed railing.

- They are both great players and I and Zuccarello has played well for a while now. I like playing with him, and he has a good understanding of hockey. He reminds me a little bit about Marty (Martin St. Louis jou.anm) I played with in Tampa. How he comes in and creates space for the other, and there is no doubt that he has given the team a lot, he says."

Where are "the longtime expert posters with a pedigree" around here now that were so against bringing in Zuccarello this year? And all their old and "Don Cherry like" reasons why thiswas not a move to make. Do not hear their pathetic barking voices any more. Actually - good riddance - their views were very much in sync with an Anti Constructive Hockey kind of attitude that sometimes rings like a mantra!
Happy to see myself and many other posters were on the money here! I definitely think that without Zuccarello - we would be playing golf and enamoring for the firing of Torts (and Sather) right now. The Hobbit saved them - for now. I would like to see Torts gone - but rather see them playing well into June ;)

You actually live in South Kloster? I will pick you up on that beer promise you posted on the other GDT if this train goes into the summer:)

Lets just be happy that Zooks has played well. Almost all of them came around and started supporting Zooks. Nobody here has to eat any crow.

When Zooks heard Richards comparison to Marty St.Louis he laughed and said he didn't want that on him while mentioning Marty just led the NHL in points. Zooks seems like one of the most well liked teammates. I think the rest of the guys like joking with him.

Well, I was of the belief that bringing Zucca back was unnecessary and probably wouldn't help us. Certainly not for any "Don Cherry reasons," and to be honest I don't recall anyone saying anything particularly offensive. If they had, it would have been deleted. My favorite Ranger is a Swede and my favorite non-Ranger is a Finn! So it's nothing anti-European.

The Zuccarello I remember from before didn't play with quite the same level of intensity as this iteration. Right now, he's all over the ice, but also playing under control. His vision and creativity are a welcome addition to the offense, and he's making things happen on most shifts. I see a consistency from him now that I didn't see before.

Hey, I'm really happy that you and the others were correct as well. I always want what's best for the team, and Zucca has been a big help. I don't know if I'd go as far as saying that without him we'd be golfing--we also received big contributions from Brassard and Moore, and occasionally something from Clowe. The additions of those three plus Zuccarello really provided some needed balance and oomph to our lineup.

Zucc has played well, not more not less.

I was possibly one of the posters who was the most down on Zucc when he signed here. But I do think he has done a great job in the very tough situations he has been given.

I think its legit to compare him with MSL from one point of view, Zucc has kept developing more or less on a yearly basis for his entire career. Zucc in his 1st SEL season was definitely compareable to Zucc this year in the NHL, IE a player who is behind and in over his head in some areas, but still does a good job. That Zucc isn't remotely close to being a NHL player. That's what, 3-4 years ago. Now he is a NHL player.

I've several times muttered by myself here in Sweden over Zucc's bad luck when it comes to getting lucky pts. I think he was robbed of an assist a couple of games ago (only one A was rewarded on a goal where Zucc touched the puck before a D touched it and gave it away). He has been around atleast a handful of goals without picking up a secondary assist. I don't care much about pts, but people pay attention to it and if you have scored a point per game for 5 games it will be talked about alot. And I would love to see Zucc playing with that kind of confidence.

Cause if he can keep taking small steps, I don't see why he couldn't keep developing. I mean, he is making some amazing plays on the ice wtih the puck. He must have nerves of steel because he can step on a PP being cold and pressured on with his job on the line, and not once mishandle the puck or make a bad decision or what not.

On the crow-eating, if there is one thing that annoys me its the often heard conclusion when someone does not make it, that the player just didn't have it. When I follow kids and prospects nowadays, I am constantly struck by how extremely small the marginals are and how extremely important it seems to be for a kid to have a ton of circumstances they don't controll themselves go their way. So I don't at all buy the "Hagelin made it = of course he did, he got 'it'", while "Zucc didn't make it = he didn't have 'it'". Hagelin was healthy for like three straight years. He was good, not spectacular, in the AHL. We had a opening in the NHL. He got a chance, played well for a handful of games but then was a tad off for quite some time, but we lost another player and Hagelin kept playing -- alot due to the team winning a ton of games -- and Hagelin kept growing into the role and so forth. Now he is a regular. Lets say he was a RW instead, with Gabby, Cally and Prust infront of him, he does not play a single game last season on a top 3 line. Not a single game. Add a injury or two to that, and you never know what you get.

This is well said. He's been better than I thought he would and he seems to have given Richards some life.

That said, the main concerns I have are still valid — and that is how well will he stand up to the grind of a full 82 game season.

I don't think anyone was actively rooting against him,

I think we can all agree that the Zuuc we are seeing now is much improved over the player that was here before. Improvement is always the key as Ola rightly pointed out. The Rangers badly needed a creative player and Zuccs provided it just when we needed it. Very good for all concerned.

No doubt hes improved.

Personally, Im still unsure that he can produce as a top 6 forward over the course of a full 82 game season.

No doubt hes been a shot of adrenaline to this team for the past month or so, however.

i was pretty outspoken in being against bringing zucc back, mainly because his size and style didnt fit this team last year, however torts seams to have pulled back the reigns this time around letting him do his think, make mistakes, and be creating and hes got guys that will work hard, unlike gaborik, to get into good shooting positions to play off of zucc's play making style. His stint thus far has proved every one of my arguments wrong and i'm loving the crow right now, tastes great

Mats is under progress. He is getting better and better each day or maybe I should say warmer and warmer. Thankfully he has been without injury the last 6-7 months.

His +/- is +10 after 15 games ? Impressing. He has gotten better in the defense part.

It must be a huge inspiration and motivation for him to play alongside Nash and Richards. I just hope he does not forget to shoot/score himself

I know that the stats don't necessarily reflect that, but Zucc>>>>>>Gabby this year. Shocking, no?

Pretty much every stat but PPG reflects Zucc > Gabby. :)

For example, he is 3rd behind Crosby and Kunitz in +/-/60 among skaters who have played 10+ games and 12+ ES minutes per game. And that figure isn't inflated by unsustainable percentages, we have dominated play whenever he's been on the ice at ES.

For reference the top 10 is:

Crosby
Kunitz
Zuccarello
Lupul
Spezza
Dupuis
Rozsival
Seguin
Hossa
P. Bergeron

I was really skeptical of signing him earlier in the season, but his play has definitely warranted an extension. In fact, anyone who is blatantly against him resigning is probably blind. Or think that every player needs to be 6'3.

The strange thing to me about Zucc is how he got better. Most offensively talented players who are borderline NHLers make the leap when they become tougher, gain more composure, learn the "little things" and learn defensive responsibility. He did those things but he also just straight up got better at hockey. Faster skater, more agile, went from good to great playmaking abilities. It's like watching a youth hockey player getting older and better each year except Zucc doesn't grow. :sarcasm:
