He’s obviously more valued than Nylander but I think 13/14 is a stretch. Ideally he comes in around 12.

They’ll find a way to afford him and Knies. I think the wild card now is Tavares. He looks so much better under Berube as well.
Tavares also looked good to start last season.

It’s the same story every year, certain guys get off to hot starts and than eventually cool off when the game intensifies.

Everyone gets a stiff one thinking this year is different, but every year the same thing happens.

Maybe this team is different, maybe not. The schedule has been fairly weak up to this point (Montreal x2, St Louis x2, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Seattle).

I personally will enjoy the season and than pray for the best come the playoffs. Good news is, the East is pretty weak.

The Leafs are going to keep all of them. That was always going to be the case. I'm sure Marner will end up between $12 and $12.5, Knies will get a bridge deal to keep the AAV down, and Tavares will sign a long deal with a low AAV.

Agreed all around, but at the same time I have always thought that the Leafs were going to sign both Marner and Tavares regardless of anything else. They aren't going to let either of them walk.

I have no doubt they will re-sign Marner, and most likely Tavares as well. Not saying I agree, but it’s the obvious outcome

3*double digits - $37mm
Knies - $7mm
Tavares - $6mm
$50mm

Oilers, have heard Bouchard wants double digits.
Can't see them keeping below Nurse's deal.

Oilers
2*double digits $26mm
2*9mm $18mm (Bouchard, Nurse)
1*6mm (Ekholm)
$50mm

Tavares is not getting a 6 million contract with the leafs. I promise you that. Tavares AAV is going to be 4 or 3 mill or less. He will sign cheap to remain a leaf

I'm on record several times as wanting the team to move on from Tavares, regardless of how cheap he may sign. But I also know that it isn't in this franchise to move on from a guy like Tavares.

He doesn't want to leave Toronto. Squeeze him for a friendly team deal, he's already cashed out. Whatever you do don't over pay Tavares, he could fall off a cliff. He isn't walking, use that leverage.

6 million would be a discount, avg over 30 goals and 74 points over the last 3 season, he is also one of the best face off guys in the league at 60% last season and this year as well.

At this point only a fool would sign him before seeing what he does in the playoffs.

This part is so fitting. Listen to Chris, Pelley.

And then the ferryman said
"There is trouble ahead
So you must pay me now, " ("Don't do it")
"You must pay me now, " ("Don't do it")
And still that voice came from beyond
"Whatever you do
Don't pay the ferryman
Don't even fix a price
Don't pay the ferryman
Until he gets you to the other side
"
Like every season, he looks good when he has open ice.

Like every year his work ethic is strong in the season.

Like every season his 5v5 goal generation plays is low.

Like every year he's still terrified of physical play and that's a big problem in playoffs.

Here's Domi scrum, as usual, he's very slow to involve himself in the scrum.

Here's the Tanev scrum, again peeing himself:

Unless his linemates carry him, or he picks up major PP points, his style is still not a recipe for success in the playoffs.

Francis our media absolutely does sell players on the fans. This town is the absolute worst and Kyper... I mean he is always talking stupid numbers. Remember Clarkson? That was a media hype job the likes of this city has never seen before.

Lets settle down over here with this stuff.

If the time you're playing against bad matchup raise but your stats still drop a little bit, Can you consider your game still at the same level?
Massive goalpost shift, did you think I wouldn't notice?

You said everyone's production drops off dramatically and you are wrong, period. I showed you the numbers, if you can't even admit you're wrong when it's this obvious then any discussion with you is a waste of time.

If you can bring yourself to admit you're wrong (not a big deal I promise) than we can continue, and I can address your ideas about matchups etc. If you can't, no need to respond as I'm not interested in wasting my time.

Your abysmal track record with predictions gives me some hope. :)
I think the big question mark is whether management thinks Mcdavid wants to play here. If Marner, Matthews, Nylander have NMC, management can't sign Mcdavid whether he wants to or not.
This is an excellent point, and yet another reason why unless Marner absolutely kills it in the playoffs  Marner should not be resigned, period.

I want you to remember this message when Tavares signs for a very team friendly deal. There is a zero percent chance that Tavares’ AAV is in the 6 mill range. The leafs would never agree to that when they have all the leverage. If Tavares has a 6 million AAV, he will not be a maple leaf. He’ll be with another team.

Love how Marner fans think other players are gonna take HUGE paycuts but Marner deserves the moon.

Stamkos got 4 years at 8 million. You really think Tavares is gonna go for 3-4mill? Tavares offensively has looked better than Marner this season, but he's gonna take 4 or even 3 million!??

lol what denial

Tavares already gave the Leafs a discount to come here. In fact Tavares has been very reasonable on all his contracts.

There can’t be anyone left who doesn’t believe he’ll be re-signed.
Berube has taken him to another level.
LMAO, yeah right. Marner's playing the same way he always plays in November. If you think producing offence against a crappy team like MTL in November means we can count on him producing against a good team like Florida in the playoffs, well enjoy your koolaid I guess.

Why would the leafs sign Tavares to a 6 mill contract when they don’t have to? He’s the one who’s desperate to be a leaf. It will be Stamkos 2.0. This is the amount we have for you, 3 or 4 million. Take it or go to UFA. Except I see JT taking it and not walking to UFA
You won’t replace him for 6 million. Now that is for a 3 year deal or less. 4-8 years for sure he takes a little less for each additional year

I’m fully expecting a retirement deal for John. Whether that’s 5,6 or 8 on a low AAV contract. I honestly don’t see a 6 million AAV for him as a MAPLE LEAF sorry. I could see it if he ends up somewhere else, but I think the organization and John know if he is going to stay it’s going to have to be relatively cheap.

Berube also loves him, very ecident by his usage and TOI.

This is Treliving we're talking about tho, he got Domi done at a great contract but for the most part I feel like he overpays.

For sure like i said, Marner was playing much more in playoff against any top matchup because he's the guy coach trust the most and Nylander less because hes unable to create anything.

Strenght of matchup also drastically change in playoff too, so unstead if you're telling me for you its exactly the same playing and pastrnak or kucherov than playing against Maroon...
Why are you doing all of that Nylanders unable to create anything ? Did you see what he did last year ? He improves every year so it’s fair to look at his improvement and suggest it’s going to continue looking at marner it’s harder to justify him improving cause he hasn’t really done so the last couple of years but he’s playing a bit more physical so here’s to hoping it translates but let’s not doing that my friend

No he hasn’t I can see him being more engaged physically but Mitch’s magic has been evident in the regular season for years I want him resigned too but he won’t be eligible for this next level til the playoffs easy on the glazing

You think an extra 2mx4 a year won't persuade a fella? Sorry I am going to take the 8m in that case obviously. Can pick up a pretty nice cottage or house or boat or whatever you want for that kinda money.

Kampfs pass on the SH goal...thats a 4th liner making that pass. When Marner does that he's hailed as Gretzky junior. Passing isn't nearly as difficult as scoring (which is why Nylander is more valuable than Marner).

Marners lack of speed is incredible though... look how slow he is after his steal on the PK. Suzuki blows by him like hes standing still.

I don't see how they have different value, just look at the one man effort Nylander demonstrated on his lone ranger rush and career peak point totals. You have a playmaker and a goal scorer.
Beautiful goal last night for sure.
Pretty good edge in all around play for Marner though.
