Is this last 3 years? Honestly I’m pretty surprised Nylander and Matthews only have 4 more goals than Marner. Thought it was way more tbh. Especially Nylander.

marner has played 3 more games than Nylander and 2 more than Matthews. Only makes about a 1 goal difference so marner still would be within 5 of Nylander.

I think injuries/illness derailed the latest against the Bruins.

Honest question for you.

Who is better Matthews or Tavares?

That makes a lot of sense. I think Matthews is better. But Tavares scores more timely goals. Assuming we are talking specifically in playoff context

Going way too hard after either Marner (who leads the team in points the last 3 years and has been one of the best defensive wingers in the league) or Rielly (who has the best Relative goal differential of ANY player in he playoffs over that stretch) comes across like an old man yelling at cloud. It's reached new levels of unhinged status.
LOL what is this nonsense. You post things that are simply incorrect, and the rant about people being unhinged. Get a grip.

The Marner (and Rielly) stuff is silly to me because other factors have been so much more of an issue in the playoffs.

I've posted this before but it's just so telling.
Rielly, Marner and Matthews 5v5 over the last 3 playoffs:

Rielly 5v5:
Goals for/60: 3.07
Goals against/60: 1.55

Marner 5v5:
Goals for/60: 3.08
Goals against/60: 1.72

Matthews 5v5:
Goals for/60: 2.81
Goals against/60: 2.06

The entire rest of the team without them:
Goals for/60: 1.57
Goals against/60: 3.14

With so many series lost so tightly, having the worst performing bottom 6 in the league and running Campbell/Samsonov vs. Vasy/Bob/Swayman have been the primary factors. The PP has also been an issue too of course but if the rest of the team were as dominant 5v5 as guys like Marner and Rielly have been, this team would be going to the finals every year even with the same PP.

I mean, it was nice seeing actual playoff goaltending for the first time in forever with Woll in net right? (he's now 3-0 in the playoffs). The old management never got the team a playoff goalie and made stupid decisions with it's support cast. Thats like 20 million + cap a year on moronic choices..... that should be something we all agree on but instead I see quibbles about 1-2 million in salary for players that actually produced. Have back at it. Maybe some around here will get their wish and we'll all love Marner winning a couple cups for someone else. At least the media hasnt starting talking about phantom hot dog carts with him yet (How that writer still has a job is insane other than the fact he still has support and even gets reposted by some around here).
Great post

The Matrix
Leafs top points over the last 3 playoffs:

1. Marner: 25 (PPG)
2. Matthews: 24
3. Rielly: 21

...and, yes, if every player on the Leafs had Marners 5v5 goal differential, the Leafs would probably have a cup lol.
This has been beat to death. He inflated his stats in that Tampa series which had a few blowout games.

2018-2021 playoffs - 19 games - 2 goals, 10 assists

That’s impressive isn’t it.

Again we can ask, what big impact goal or assist did he have in any playoff game?

11 goals in 57 playoff games, that’s pathetic really, and primarily playing in the first round where scoring tends to be higher. I’m sure you will float, he’s a playmaker though. Well, for $11 mil, I would expect a player be able to score his own goals and not solely rely on other people for points.

Nylander has 20 goals in 54 games, and was making 6.9mil.

Matthews hasn’t been great either, but he did take over a couple of games here and there. Marner for the most part has been irrelevant in the postseason.

Our 69 goal scorer has been MIA as well in series clinching games:

2024 against Boston:

Game 4 - 0G, 0A
Game 7 - 0G, 1A

2023 against Florida:
Game 4 - 0G, 0A
Game 5 - 0G, 0A

2023 against Tampa:
Game 5 - 1G, 0A
Game 6 - 1G, 0A

2022 against Tampa
Game 5 - 1G, 0A
Game 6 - 1G, 0A
Game 7 - 0G, 1A

So over the last 3 years in series deciding games Matthews has 4 goals, 2assists, 6 points, in 9 games. He’s making 13 million. You want to take about why we are struggling? If our top goal scorer cannot replicate his goal scoring pace from regular season to playoffs we are finished. Mitch isn’t absolved either. But this notion that it’s Mitch’s fault it dumb as shit. The stats speak for themselves. Outside of Nylander no one else is clutch. To me objectively, Matthews and Marner equally share a ton of responsibility for our struggles.

Don't disagree at all and I've never held back on the Matthews criticism either. But this is a Marner thread.

Since we are dissecting Marner quotes. It’s nice to see him embrace the intensity of the coach. Cause all we’ve been told is that he doesn’t like that, or that if coaches try that with him he’ll get them fired. Whatever that’s supposed to mean.

I would like to see this intensity transfer to our stars including Mitch a little bit more too and have them play with it on a consistent basis. So hopefully Lane continues to bring it every night and make the players uncomfortable.

That first line is fine but there’s over 25 m on that line. I just feel like if they are just “good” not “elite” Mathews and Marner should be broken up.

Matthews and Marner can both score at a 1.2 PPG pace without playing with each other… so unless they are scoring at a 1.3-1.4 PPG pace they should be broken up imo.

How many of those points did he get earlier in the series? How many later in the series?

Looking at points to show he played well in the playoffs is flawed.
Lmao, looking at points to show how he played is flawed but all you keep bringing up is his lack of points which, therefore, would also be flawed according to what you just said. Smh.

It’s absolutely bizarre lol

What’s wrong with this quote? Nothing. again, you continually search for the dumbest things to try and shit on Marner for. It’s absurd.
A few things... to start...its pretty uncommon for a player to praise a linemate while putting down other linemates.

I think I said this earlier: it's not always the easiest to play with Auston and I. Just sometimes the sporadicness, and sometimes we go into weird spots. I think we know where each other are, but some guys can't really figure it out, and Knies has done an unbelievable job of that this year. He really started getting along with it last year as well

The reporter asked him to touch on the how impressed he is with Knies development and Marner decided to focus on Knies doing a good job on his line figuring out how to play with him and Matthew...while other guys couldnt really figure it out.

Im not picking on Marner either. I didnt like Nylander publically saying he wants more mins either.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

He's still not doing the things that win hockey games.

He just wants to be an east/west perimeter orientated passer. Hasn't driven to the net all year, doesn't shoot enough, doesn't shoot on wide open nets. He overcomplicates everything on the ice.

He looks to have lost some speed as well over the years.

Its blatantly obvious he needs to go, especially with this new coach, its getting comical at this point.
That new coach is playing Marner more than any other forward on our team??

I don't know where people have been if they don't think all of the core 4 have had stupid articles/videos made about them. The other 3 just don't have people constantly reposting every bad article/video from the past 8 years. It's also pretty easy to see why Marner became a media focus. A lot of people have pre-existing biases against smaller players, wingers, playmakers, etc., so there was already a wider potential audience to capture, and then there was a lot of misguided anger generated during the contract saga. Media rode that wave.

If only we had a similarly sized playmaking winger that had a highly publicized contract dispute to compare to.

If you're referring to Nylander, he's not particularly small or primarily a playmaker, and while he had a holdout, he benefitted from being quickly overshadowed by Matthews/Marner contract negotiations, and his contract being limited in size by not being as good when he signed. Though he's also got a ton of hate and stupid things said about him over the years.

Marner!! Can’t wait to see how @Antropovsky tries to discredit this goal.

“He was to close to the net, got lucky, Ryan reaves could bury that puck” LMAO
"It was a lucky tip, lucky rebound, and all he had to do was put it into a yawning cage"

Will that work?
He did exactly what ive been preaching he needs to do... got a goal by going to the net. Looks like Berube is forcing him to go to the areas he doesnt want to and he got rewarded.

Make you two a deal...if I can show you 5 posts of mine in the past month where I say he needs to go to the net...and stop playing perimeter. Than you two close your accounts. If I can't, ill close mine?

Time to watch you two squirm. When you refuse, ill probably grab 5-6 of my quotes just to show off.
