No apology necessary. I've posted very little this summer and refuse to get too worked up about anything. I'm also a huge fan of both Marner and Matthews.
I am absolutely a fan of both as well.
Just trying to calm down the whole "Marner is the greatest Winger Ever" crowd.
Let's not give him that so we can actually re-sign Dermott and Barrie next offseason.

Time for Rogers Bell to make massive cuts to the MLSE budget and get rid the perks players get here. Everyone feels entitled on this team it seems. The demands are just silly, they don't want to win, they just want to line their pockets.

? I WAS comparing them. How else would i come to the conclusion that U22 season Marner > U22 season Kane?
I never said that opinion is solely based on points... you enjoy putting words in people’s mouths... don’t you?
It’s close, but Marner is better at the same age.
Not yet, but he's trending towards a $4-5M D-man if he can translate his game into a consistent top 4 role.
I'd lock him up to a 3-4 year deal as soon as possible to get some cost certainty for a few years.

As the season progresses, the usual suspects will no doubt start citing previously unheard of stats that show that Dermott is “utterly elite” if not for the way he’s used by Babcock. And an aav if 5-6 million will be considered a “steal”.
Remember.. every leaf player is “THE BEST” and they’ll dig really deep to find obscure stats that “prove” it.

Actually a bit behind kappy at the moment, tbh, and with ceci ahead of him to start, not to mention the injury, hes got some work to do.

And the usual suspects will go out of their way to change their narratives and adopt completely hypocritical stances depending on whether the player is a leaf or not
Like comparing leaf players based on total points in platform years and ignoring ELC goals......
But then decide that a jets player should be compared based on ELC goals and ignore the points in the contract year.. sound familiar?

I honestly don’t see this team winning without the heart that Marner has shown - the kind of heart that will win Championships. I hope we get a deal done soon

While I believe he is overestimating his value, we all win if both sides compromise.

Yeah as a team we should not overpay anyone if possible. As a hockeyfan , please let this last days before the season starts go faast. People are getting crazy in here...

You didn't answer my question that I asked when I said what are you basing your U22 Marner > U22 Kane, but answered with the following.
Kane had 30 goals and 88 points
Marner had 26 goals and 94 points...
How can I take that as anything but you comparing them based on 1 year and on points only.

One simple statement doesn’t mean that is much only reasoning. Hey there people already touched up on it. Additionally, Marner is the more defensively reliable player.
