No point in even continuing this thread. Nothing is going to happen over the summer. Mitch is not signing anyone else's offer sheet and Leafs are not budging. But many are saying Mitch will sign with Leafs. That includes Zach, Naz, Freddy, Kessel, Tavares and Spezza. Mitch decided to go up to his cottage after his charity event. Probably got sick of everyone asking him the same questions. Why hit golf balls in the heat when everyone is on you asking you the same stuff over and over again. Also I would take bets he will not miss start of season. 10M for 8 years is a ton of dough. and at some point the Leafs will cave and give him a little more and they will settle on a year or two less in term.

Dubas said centers get paid more than wingers...except when the wingers are like Ovi ,Jagr, Kane and Kucherov. He should have had the stones to say this center gets paid more than this winger or just shut up.
Saying that centers get paid more than wingers does not mean that every center in the league gets paid more than every winger. It means when all else is equal.

Yep, that's what seems to be the likely outcome.

What is wrong with our players? Tampa Bay has signed the best goalie in the League for 8 years at 9,5million and the best forward for eight years at 9,5 million. Are their players just more interested in winning as a team than ours are? None of Tampa's top players are making more than this.

Neither side has negotiated publicly.

Ummmmmmm. Marners dad went on the air and said he should be considered for captain and should be considered a Centre.

You think he did that for..... not money?

Ferris has discussed other contracts and how Marner was low balled.....

That wasn’t media? Or he thought he was talking to a person who wasn’t a reporter?

Negotiations didn't begin until after the season ended. This is fake news

yes all sides have made comments at times, my post was in reference to the actual negotiation period that began when the season ended.

Florida has no income taxes. A player making $12 million here is actually making closer to $10 million here because of taxes; thus we get to play an extra couple million of cap space for Canadian taxes. Tampa has been exploiting this to get their players cheaper for a while now; it's a loophole the league really ought to close...

we're giving front loaded contracts with signing bonuses so Tavares made 16 million last last season and this upcoming season and Matthews will be the same the next 2 seasons. After the 1st 2 years it starts to get lower to keep the AAV down. So we got our own loophole we can use with our wallets while they have their tax loophole. Tavares and Matthews will be making more than McDavid in total salary but again that's just the 1st 2 seasons of the contract. Also, this way our contracts are really easy to move after we pay that signing bonus because their base salary is pocket change, even for budget teams.

The Leaf players do, however, have the opportunity to earn much more money from off ice promotions wouldn't they?

I want to see him play with some better wingers that we can provide him before I pass judgement. I'm cautiously optimistic he'll improve his offensive production if he gets time on a decent PP2. I am also encouraged that he is above average defensively based on my readings about him despite what some Avalanche fans are espousing.

This is probably the most impressive thing about Kerfoot, IMO:

Pretty much uniformly, every player he's played with plays better with him, worse without him, and he averages better results than his team.

We've all heard those rumors about tax advantages in states like Florida. But there's so many tax loops for the utterly rich that commoners like us don't know about. So I've always questioned how big that advantage really is in places like Florida.

The only ONE time I've ever read a tax expert chime in, is in this article.
For Marner and Leonard, it pays to know a few contract shortcuts

The tax expert pretty much laughs when it suggested pro athletes in Toronto pay more taxes than players in other cities.

The article cites something in Canada called an "rca" that is so powerful at lowering taxes, that the nba banned them outright. They said that RCA's are such a dramatically unfair advantage for a city in Canada, that the nba BANNED the used them. Well... every single Maple Leaf can use one if they want...

So what happens if Point is traded to Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg ...?

Do they renegotiate?

If you live in toronto or follow the team 1 percent as much as you complain about it you would know that agents. Gms. Players. Media and insiders talk about it regularly and conformed it is a real distinct advantage.

But you keep being ridiculous

A player making $12 million is making $10 million in USD, meaning they end up making the majority of that back in the end once converted to CAD.

It was months ago.... not years ago. You don’t think it’s relevant?
