Rumor: Mitch Marner's Dad Is Holding Up A Deal With The Maple Leafs

should have included before.
prob all made up. just wish parents would stay out of contract discussions

Matthews is overpaid that cannot be denied. That said....

Matthews
212 GP
205 pts
0.97 ppg
111 goals
0.52 gpg

Marner
241 GP
224 pts
0.93 ppg
67 goals
0.28 gpg

Playoffs:
Matthews 20 GP, 13 pts, 10 goals
Marner 20 GP, 17 pts, 5 goals

It's pretty tight in terms of performance that said Matthews plays center position and Marner plays wing. Given what Dubas forked out for Matthews, Marner is probably looking at a million less around 10 and 5 year term; leafs just gotta get the 6 year term from Marner.

btw i don't believe in this paul marner bs

This is likely a waste of my time...but what the hell! Recent example would be Kevin Hayes at 7 year/ 50 M...I take Willy all day ,every day...there are other examples with varying amounts and varying caliber of player that all seem to be trending upward(like usual in any successful business) ....but if you truly believe he is only a 27 point a year player then perhaps you disagree. I doubt you or anyone else can think Willys first 2 years in the league at 61 points was a fluke and that last season is going to be the norm going forward....I say as time goes on,he will be a bargain.
one other player and he was ufa lol, and all of a sudden Willy's deal is a bargain come on, horrible example, not sure how you figure Willy's deal is a bargain when he just came off a 27 point year, and this year has not started, talk about jumping the gun, horrible.:help::(

Had a glimpse of what kinda guy he was when Mitchy was a lad...not my kinda guy! Who really knows though?...I would've listened to my old man at that age as well, but he also would of left the final decision to me ...because its my life!
Oh at that age 100% heck I still prob would listen to my dad today in terms like that. but holding out for a letter is just ridiculous. it cant be true. he better sign before we play Game 1 of regular season.

MAILBAG: Mitch Marner and NHL labour peace | The Star

Deadlines on the current deal approach. The league has until Sunday to decide whether to end the current CBA, or let it ride until it expires in 2022.The players association has another two weeks to decide (Sept. 15),

One curious development is whether players coming off their entry level deals should be eligible for arbitration. Currently those players -- like William Nylander last year and possibly Mitch Marner and more this year -- choose to withhold services to get better deals. Arbitration would put an end to that.

The owners used to like the idea of controlling those kinds of players with a take-it-or-leave-it approach. Since so many players have "left it" in recent seasons, owners might like the idea of arbitration. The league and the players association have had regular meetings. The players' execuitve board meets next week.

Again with the short-sighted 27 point thing...he wasn't paid based on that...but you likely know that ,or at least should...so I will conclude you just don't like the player or it's justwillful ignorance at this point!

Also,.Ufa /Rfa who cares...still a player...Hayes isn't in Willys class at all(talk about overpaid)...as I said there are other examples of the escalating pay scale...look em up for yourself!

If Point signs for that then there really is a huge advantage to the tax argument. It has to stop as Leafs and other big teams help keep the low budget teams afloat yet they can sign stars for cheaper contracts.

Edit. But if true it’s good for us. Marner should not be allowed a contract much above that. If he says no. Sit him. No excuses. Start negotiations the following year.

I truly don't understand Dubas' recent signing. Isn't playing in Toronto a carrot?

Then again, my guess (because I have not looked it up), the tax rates in Florida are likely LOW vs Ontario.

Definitely, it's all been just speculation/entertainment up till now...no one knows anything for sure. However, not looking forward to this being a distraction during camp or pre-season games....would like to focus on the new faces, etc. instead. As a side note ...still curious that none of Marners peers (except Aho) have signed .

Do you (does anyone) know the personal tax rates in Florida?
I'm curious.

They still pay taxes for sure, they have a 6% sales tax, and some counties can charge extra sales tax, so as high as 8% or so, but they have no personal income tax there.

But I believe athletes pay extra taxes when playing in other states....

yes you gave me one example, 1! and now willys contract is a bargain because of Hayes, the pay scale is what when a player scored 27 points and is getting paid 7 million

* Hurricane Dorian is coming! No worries. I'm happy to take less to play here.

* Play in Toronto? If you want me, you're going to need to pay a premium!

Which part of this don't I understand?
