There really weren't.

Literally nobody has a problem with regular season Marner. We know he's a monster and we'd all build a statue for him if we could corresponding to his regular season success. Your last few posts in here are embarassing to read. Why can't you just compliment the guy like a normal person.

There's about 1-3 people super salty that there exists 15-20 others who think Marner is a shadow of himself when playoffs roll around. Spoiler: You're 1 of the 3
Revisionist bullshit.

That about sums it up, regular season Marner is everybody's hero. Matthews was the best player in the league last year so it wouldn't surprise me if some people said he was carrying Marner but I don't remember it being a big thing.

I wonder, the people still upset today about comments from a year ago saying Matthews was carrying Marner, do you think they're the same ones that have been praising Marner for carrying Tavares, Nylander and before that Kadri and whoever else? If it is then then it's a pot vs kettle situation that's a waste of time and they should just give it a rest. Hell I've even seen comments saying Marner is carrying the entire team on his back which is ridiculous. I mean I get people want to praise the guy but it would be nice if they could figure out a way of doing while keeping it real and not insulting his teammates.

Good players complement good players, when good players play with each other they all look better especially when it comes to their stats and just because one guy is better than the other doesn't mean he's "carrying" anyone. The idea that players as good as Tavares, Marner, Kadri etc. are being "carried" is laughable, this "carrying" term should just die a miserable death IMO.

In other news, did Marner seriously go pointless against freaking Columbus? And this after getting the last game off to rest, seriously??!!??? :sarcasm:

There were a lot of people last year arguing 34 was carrying Mitch. I prefer to see it as complimentary.
No there wasn't. Plenty of people gave Mitch his credit last year. 34 was a monster last year so naturally there was more of as spotlight on him.

So they dried out from the year before?
People have been saying for a long time that Marner is a line driver. Many others, including you have been critical in years past. It isn't a stretch that there were a few repeating the same bullshit last year with prior critics who finally suspected they were dead wrong, staying silent. It is pretty specious of you to make this claim about last year when you actually never really retracted your prior position.

Yeah, there is a few repeating the same bullshit as last year. They're pretty easy to pick out and I don't really take their opinions seriously (nor do many others).

I'm not even sure what specific position you're referring to in the last part of your post but if you're keeping tabs on my opinions from years back that's kind of weird.

...just recall you getting into it with @diceman934.
I recall a lot of opinions I don't agree with

Bullocks. Ditto when he played with JT too. And I never said plenty didn’t give him credit, obviously.

Marner now needs 5 points in 4 games to reach 100 points. Hard to believe he may not reach 100. Won't reach the 35 goals he scored last year. Ranta with 52 goals !!

If he doesn't hit 100 points I cry

Why do you guys care about Marner hitting 100 points? 95, 98, 101, what difference does it make? All I care about is the playoffs so I assume (and hope) he'll get another game or two off to rest and have his ice time limited when he does play, all I can say is I sure hope he's not thinking about hitting 100.

Marner had a slow start this season, I don't care.
Marner has played great for most of this season, I'm happy about that because I'm hoping it will carry over to the playoffs.
I believe Marner is now pointless in 3 consecutive games for the first time this season, I don't care and I'm not really worried. Well, maybe a little worried, I hope Keefe playing him so much hasn't burned him out.

I'll judge Marner's season the same way I judge everyone else - mostly on how they play in the playoffs and Marner being ready to play when the time comes is all I care about now.

To be honest it doesn't even look like Marner himself cares very much about it.

I think the kid's dead set on dominating the playoffs and shutting up the criticism.
