It's a Marner Appreciation thread not a criticism thread. bring the positive vibe or move onto a thread that's all about his flaws. Seems like it's not understood as much even when its Capitalized and bolded.
It is a big word for some.

There are some positives and negatives discussed in every appreciation thread so not a big deal. The only issue is the self appointed appreciation police force who lose their minds when anyone dares to suggest that Marner is something less than gods gift to hockey and they make it difficult to have rational discussion.

To appease these snowflakes, I started another Marner thread where more objective discussion could be had but it was merged with this one., it seems the mods feel that one Marner thread is enough. I think they're probably right, no player is perfect, not even Marner and 99% of what's posted about him is positive anyway.

I mean the simplest way I can think of is...if I was trying to start a fire at a fire station...It's there for a reason and if you go there to commit arson don't think it'll bode well for you?

You aren't going to win any points by calling others names either. Prolly means there are plenty of places for critiquing and being negative about Marner, don't need another one tbh. I mean look at our boards it's feasting on them quite a bit when things go south very very quickly if not on PGT or GDT. We definitely do have quite a bit of other threads where you can discuss it. Just my two cents.

I've been subjected to name calling here for saying things about Marner that aren't even criticism so if you don't like name calling, you should be talking to those posters, not me.

The most logical place to discuss Marner is the Marner thread. As I've said before, I'm a huge fan of Marner and 99% of what I've posted about him has been positive. Your suggestion that I take the other 1% to these other "plenty of places" is ridiculous. I refuse to be bullied away just because there are like 3 posters who can't take the 1%. Nobody's perfect, not even Marner and if that upsets 0.00001% of Leaf fans who can't deal with that reality, that's their problem, not mine.

I can't speak for them nor do I know of them but I say it to anyone who takes that route. It's simply not an effective way to communicate and I pointed it out as you are talking to me. I am likely guilty of it too with my dry humor.

You say it is a Marner thread but forget that it's a Marner appreciation thread, hence it's likely not boding well for you or the people who are posting here giving Marner his flowers. If it was an all-encompassing yea I believe so but it isn't. At the end of the day, it's your choice but it seems like it's been the same song and dance nonstop and I'm sure it's a headache for people all around.

Cheers

When did you try this? CONFESS!

I already told you, I created a different Marner thread and the mods merged it with this one.

Yes, I understood that and I also explained why they likely did that, or you can ask the mods themselves.

Haven't been a mod for ages and unless they have changed the norms it is likely that it was merged because of said reasoning of there being plenty of other threads regarding talking about those topics at hand. Sometimes it's just easier that way

I like checking this thread every once in a while... So weird to have an appreciation thread for an active roster player.

If the player is still alive and playing - It's a player discussion thread.

I thought I explained it to you, see post #2003. One Marner thread makes sense to me and 99+% of people also seem to be fine with it so I have no questions for the mods or anyone else.

Exactly. I said it in my original post when I created the other thread that got merged into this one - appreciation threads are dumb and they shouldn't exist. And every appreciation thread I've ever seen has some people say some negative things so they always evolve into discussion threads anyway.

Ever since I joined, mods have merged multiple threads about one player. I don't know when this rule that appreciation threads meant that no critical observations were allowed came about. It clashes with the traditional operation of mods merging multiple threads on one player together. which occurred in this thread. I think some of would love to have an answer, is criticism permitted in appreciation threads... Or can multiple threads be opened for player discussion?

Also its weird to me that only certain posters are being called out for "name calling". Majority of the name calling in this thread are by the posters in this thread who are upset about others being critical of Marner. I'd be glad to quote them and prove it but in the past when I've done this, it was removed by mods.

I'm not aware of any rule, I'm also pretty sure there isn't one. The fact that I created a separate Marner thread for objective discussion and it was merged with this one makes this quite clear.

If it's not a rule than I would suggest mods clarify this to avoid confusion because certain posters insist that this thread is for appreciation only. I too considered making a thread about Marner for objective conversations but knew it would be closed down or merged.

Crapping on Marner in his appreciation thread… basically comes across as trolling the thread.

Who's crapping on Marner? If you have a problem with someone's opinion, why not quote them with a rebuttal? These yelling at the clouds "OMG this is an appreciation thread" posts got old a long time ago.

Also, anyone paying attention knows that all Marner discussion has been merged into one thread and this is it so ... if someone does want to crap on him, like it or not, this is the place to do it.

Been on this board since 2007, 16 years, and this is the first time I've heard that your not allowed to be critical in an appreciation thread.

He had a good season but when the chips are down this kid seems fragile still
This is a praise thread.. At least I was told this by others and eventually blocked by mods? (not sure was never given told why) and then allowed back (again no communication on why) presumably for voicing my concerns about Marners play translating to playoff hockey (often with evidence based reasoning. According to some, I was completely out of my mind and a troll! Note I was also told this in the Tampa series, Montreal series and the Columbus series....then it went quiet. But once the season rolls around memories are short.

He had a decent game. Stood out more than Tampa's top guys 5v5. We can easily still win 4 games first. It was game 1.

I think we want dominant though, not just decent. Matthews and Marner need to score. The lineup is not built to win if these 2 aren't scoring. Whose going to score in that bottom 6? :help:
