Pretty hard to put that loss on Marner, if you’re being honest.
Like the rest of them, he could be better though

Yeah I really hope nobody puts this loss squarely on 1 person (maybe you have a case for Keefe for constantly putting Holl out there. Sammy also looked real shaky). Lots of blame to go around and the whole team needs to be MUCH better.

He had a decent game. Stood out more than Tampa's top guys 5v5. We can easily still win 4 games first. It was game 1.

I think we want dominant though, not just decent. Matthews and Marner need to score. The lineup is not built to win if these 2 aren't scoring. Whose going to score in that bottom 6? :help:
If he took 9 million then he'd have taken 2 million per year less, which is nearly 12 million. I'm sure the 12 million is worth the added criticism for him.

I don’t think it should put on any one person specifically, and marner isn’t high on the list. Samsonov, Holl and Bunting were our biggest issues. Matthews and Marner both have way more to give than what we saw last night, but people are acting like they totally no showed which isn’t entirely fair either. Either way though it’s time to put up or shut up

I don't understand why he went into the playoffs coasting.

Nylander did it the smart way. He coasted but then made sure he ramped it back up the final week. Marner came into game 1 off vacation. What a joke.

Mitch was not on vacation. He was busy taping his fork.

That was the impression I got as well. 3 points is fine and all but you start seeing those behind the back drop passes in the 3rd period to nowhere... What is left to think?

sadly the behind hte back drop passes to nowhere are better than the weak sad lobs directly to the opposing team and then scampering off to the bench so he doesn't take a hit on the stats sheet.

yea, real pressure is raising a family in toronto on 60k household income. not whatever this shit is.

Canadian hockey culture is pretty interesting when you think about it. Traditionally it's a bunch of pampered 20-30 something guys who paid a fortune to play a child's game, while ascribing so many blue collar work cliches to the game they play.

The modern Leafs are very different from this approach. I find they have a very corporate, fin tech approach to them, always innovating and optimizing, but they don't have the same attitude like they're doing shift work. It's a weird team.

I live in a small town in Sweden. Got about 30k household income after taxes. That is like two/three broken sticks or something. Crazy if u think about it.

I am not jealous, it is what it is. Hope he go and get some perspective so that the pressure becomes a non issue.

Yes Morgan with 4 points. He hates Morgan...easily our best D man yet getting v3 pair minutes

Always does in the playoffs
I've always said that you are biased in favor of Marner and Rielly, but that damn, you picked a couple of beauties for favorites! :)

Tonight's a case in point. Rielly's 4 points is cool and everything bit Marner is the star for me tonight. Draws the penalty and scores on the PP to get things started, it doesn't get any better than that. I said it right then, that right there was more impressive than his 3 points last night.

Not to jinx things so I'll say that so far ... yes still a lot of hockey to be played but so for ... the 3 stars are Marner, Rielly and Samsonov in whatever order.

Beautiful game from Marner so far tonight, hope there's many more like it to come in the next few weeks.

GLG!!

PS Rielly's taken so much grief around here lately, so happy to see those 4 points on the board!!

If Marner is finally putting it on net instead of spinning back or whatever it is he usually does, Tampa's season is over and guaranteed 100+ point pace for Marner this time around

I miss Kadri but Marner is my favourite and Morgan I coached at Notre Dame so I know him well.
I miss Kadri too, was my favorite player for a few years there but Marner's obviously on another tier altogether. I'd put it this way, Kadri was a star one season, a borderline star in a few others but Marner's a superstar every year. Like I said, hoping for many more nights like this for Marner in the short term future. I, like most fans am a "what have you done for me lately" kind of guy and by that standard, Marner's golden right now and so is Rielly. :)

GLG!!

I'll need to consult my drunk friends for the proper interpretation of Mitches performance given he apparently can't skate well enough for the playoffs. I get this on good authority from @JT AM da real deal .
Not sure but it almost looks like he leads the league in playoff points. Counting is stats though and I need to judge it based on style like figure skating.

Marner with two goals tonight in a needed win is a big thing for him. It's nice to see him get he production going. When he starts stringing together multi-point games, he can really start to roll and be dangerous even if he only gets 1-2 points in a game.

We'll need him to be magic in Tampa.

3 more WINS. I believe MM can help the Leafs do it. It doesnt matter if MM goes pointless the rest of the series, as long as Leafs gets 3 more wins, I am 100% sure MM will play an important role in those three wins.
