Hate to break it to you ...but anyone who knows anything about hockey cares very little about the NHL giveaway stat. Which is why I'm not surprised you do, or thought enough of it to post the stats.

Then again, now might be as good a time as any for Toronto’s Mitch Marner to exact a little sweet revenge by tweeting how Boston’s David Pastrnak is well worth upwards of $12-million. After all, that’s what Brad Marchand did four years ago when he went on social media and stirred the pot, writing: “I can’t wait to see this kids (sic) new deal … 12m AAV?? It better be #Marnerwatch.”

It was a troll job aimed at pushing the Maple Leafs, who at the time were already up against the cap, further into financial ruin. And it mostly served its purpose, with Marner holding out for an eventual six-year contract extension worth $10.9-million annually.

The best is quibbling with the Gretzky comparison when Wayne said Mitch reminds him of himself. Hello in there. That’s the trouble with the internet, some clown is given equal weight to great hockey minds and former players. Give me a break, I get the contract talk on one level, but anyone arguing Mitch isn’t a competitive, dynamic, rare talent, is frankly a complete idiot. Yes, the whole team has something to prove, DUH.

Last year in the playoffs Marner 2 goals, 6 assists for 8 points in the series against Tampa Bay, and it wasn't his fault because the Leafs lost. So, they couldn't use his lack of production against him like in 2020 against Columbus or in 2021 against Montreal.
