World Cup: Canada 4 Nations Tournament 2025 Roster Talk

It's bad enough that Hockey Canada did such a piss poor job assembling the 2025 World Junior tourney. However, now we get to watch a team, without Logan Thompson, the best Canadian goalie this year, by far. All 3 Canadian goalies suck.

Mark Scheifele is having a career year, and he is also left off the team. There are probably others, but I looked at the roster, and with the political climate the way it is, I will refuse to watch one second of this tournament, since the Americans are going to destroy us.

To be fair, there's no comparison. WJC team was like leaving MacKinnon and Makar (or any other superstar names) at home. No one can ever mess up as much as that management group did.

Scheifele is not too much of a miss cause he wasn't going to get top 6 minutes nor is he much of a defensive presence.

Thompson is probably the only real issue cause he deserved a spot. My guess is they favored SC winning experience (Binnington, Hill) and Montembeault won them the 2023 WHC with a .939 save percentage.

I like Jarvis, but Scheifele is better than him by a fair margin.

But like I said earlier, this is a a mockery event concocted by Bettman. Would have rather had players of teams I like just skip the event. Some team is going to have someone suffer a significant injury in this bs tournament.

Jarvis is young and a VERY good 200 foot player. Hockey Canada is trying to bridge the gap to the next generation.

I would have preferred Scheifele over Marchand - who has lost a step (or 2).

So? they aren't forced to go, the players obviously care enough to go, no one cares if some whiny fans don't.

Then why no Cellebrini or Bedard, both of whom are significantly better than Jarvis.

Scheifele is tied for first in goals and 4th in points among Canadian players this year. He's better than half of that forward group.

Now you're going to spew some nonsense about his defensive numbers. It's 3 games. Take your best players. Period.

Too bad he's a liability, when you take that into account it's quite clear why he didn't make it. Stop being mad.

A liability would give up more goals than he scores. That's simply not the case, no matter how often you say it.

Celebrini is too young. Bedard is not better than Jarvis at 19.

Seth Jarvis since Bedard came in to the league is 0.86 PPG playing with Aho, Svechnikov, Necas.

Bedard is 0.89 playing with Terravainen, Donato, Bertuzzi.

Celebrini is 0.89.

If you're wanting to bring a young star to prepare the next generation, it isn't Jarvis.

Jarvis is a far more complete 200 foot player than Bedard - AINEC.

If you want to make the case for Celebrini, fine, but not Bedard.

That's totally fair, but you would have to admit if you are bringing a young player to acclimate to the pressure as you expect them to lead in the future, both Celebrini and Bedard and way more likely to be those guys.

I saw a lot of Bedard at last year's World Championships.

There were times where he took over the offensive zone by himself. And there were a lot of other times where he was a liability out there and his icetime started going down.

I don't think they're bringing Jarvis to acclimate to the pressure of best-on-best play (otherwise I agree with you that Celebrini and Bedard, and perhaps others, will be more important to Team Canada over the next 10-15 years). They're bringing Jarvis because they believe he can contribute in a bottom-6 type role NOW, and honestly I don't disagree with the management team on this one.

I despise the concept of selecting role players. That's why Canada is getting killed at the Juniors lately. It's literally a three game tournament. Bring your best hockey players. Period.

He was 18 though.
