Tribute Marner Appreciation Thread

I specifically used Tavares 47 goals in 2018-19 with the Leafs because that was 9 more than his previous high of 38 with the Islanders.

Going from a season best 84 points to 88 points that same season isn't that big of a number to use in my example.

So you can't say Marner didn't have any impact with Tavares in his first season with Toronto.
I don't understand what your saying here.

In the season you cited Tavares had 38 goals and 86 points while recording 36 points more than the next best Islander. He likely would have had even better seasons had he played with a 11 million dollar player for the Islanders.

With Marner he had 46 goals and 88 points.

Wheres the impact?

Why don't you look Tavares scoring log from the 2018-19 Season and see the number of times Marner had assisted on his 47 goals.

Marner pre tavares 69 points in 82
Tavares pre Marner 84 points in 82
Matthews 62 games 63 points (same year)

Marner with Tavares 94
Tavares with Marner 88 (a total increase of 4 points)

Who elevated who?

Also list the best players Tavares played with during his time as an Islander (Okposo, Moulson). Now imagine his stats had he played with a player like Draisaitl or Matthews.

We are still waiting to see Marner without an elite linemate. We already know Tavares and Matthews are ppg players with lesser linemates.

The Memorial Cup Run, Christian Dvorak benefitted all season by both Marner and Tkachuk and that line was in a totally different league during that run

I use Dvorak because both Tkachuk and Marner didn't skip a beat breaking into pro, where Dvorak is basically a 2C on a average team and a 3C on a really good team

Dvorak has a .5 point per game at the NHL level. That line should've done serious damage in juniors considering their success in the NHL. To say that anyone of these guys were carried by the other in the CHL makes little sense. Whose carrying Dvorak now? Is he blessed because NHL gms haven't figured out that he's being carried and is a terrible nhl player? Montreal paid a 1st and a 2nd for him... So I guess they hadn't figured it out that Dvoark sucked as early as the beginning of last season, because that's a pretty good sum for a crappy player.

A junior line of Marner/Dvoral/Tkatchuk.... They each benefited from each other. A .5 per game NHL player is a damn good player at the CHL level.

What's your point? Tavares had 38 playing with second line talent and only produced 4 less points. He had 86 points the year before coming to Toronto with no elite players. 11 million seems like money poorly spent to get 9 more goals and 4 extra points out of a player.

Some seem to forget that Marner and Tavares we're good for one season but we're bad that playoffs and we're bad the following season before being split up. They haven't been good together this year either relative to there pay.

Marner had that point streak this season of 23 games in a row which set a new record for the Maple Leafs which included some games where he scored the game winning goal in overtime against Calgary . What more do you want him to do?

Like I said before during Marner's final year with London in 2016 which was also his Draft +1 year he won OHL MVP, OHL Playoffs MVP, Memorial Cup MVP, and CHL Player of the Year.

So if anything Marner was the main reason for the success London had.

If you need a reminder about that here are two videos for you to watch.

I think Statsny had a similar length one at a younger age, maybe even as a rookie. Does that mean he had a hall of fame career?

I think it's pretty clear by now that Antropovsky truly hates Marner and the only way he might win him over is if he wins the Cup and Conn Smythe.
If that happens, Marner was clearly just blessed to be on a team that carried him, and the Smythe voting was rigged and the voters didn't realize how none of his points actually mattered. :sarcasm:

If that happened he might say that Matthews, Tavares, or Nylander deserved it more than Marner. :sarcasm:

Personally speaking if the Leafs win the Cup I don't care who would win the Conn Smythe.

Dvorak was considered a star in Jr to those just looking at scoring totals. Marner did all the driving on that line, Tkachuk made all the room in the world for both of them, and helped bump both totals. What if it had been Max Jones centering those two? While he doesn't put up 120+ he probably hits 80 pts and Jones still hasn't found a regular spot in the NHL.

Dvorak in the NHL at .5 is a middling forward and pretty far away from being anybodys pick as a #1 centre and probably middle of the pack as a #2 in other words somewhere between #40 and #50 as a centre.

You should put things in perspective;

Marner pre tavares 69 points in 82 (16 mins ATOI - 27 PP - 42 EV)
Tavares pre Marner 84 points in 82 (30 PP points - 54 EV points)
Matthews 62 games 63 points (same year)

Marner with Tavares 94 ( over 19 mins a night - 21 PP - 73 EV)
Tavares with Marner 88 ( 19 PP Points - 69 EV points)

Safe to say, they elevated each others games.

Like every great player.

How many CHL players make the NHL? Dvorak was a star in junior. Point is... Marner was on one the best junior lines ever put together I'm sure. In terms of NHL talent. Doesn't matter who the "line driver" is.... Those two players make Marners job easier in Junior. In comparison to other NHL players who had linemates whom never made an impact in the NHL.

I keep hearing about Marner carrying all his lines. Tavares was producing similarly with crappy Islander linemates before Marner. In fact the advanced stats showed that Tavares created more scoring plays than Marner did in 2019. Tkatchuk is younger and has produced at the same level as Marner in the NHL.

There is no evidence that shows that Marner made any of these players a lot better. They are producing everywhere they go without him!

Marner has had 94 points in 82 games played during the 2018-19 Season.

Last season he had 97 points in 72 games played.

Maybe it's time you find another team to be a fan of, because you don't seem like a Leafs fan with all this negativity towards Marner. Did he steal your girlfriend or refuse to give you an autograph, which is why you bash everything about him?

He also makes 11 million.... And has failed for 4 straight playoffs. Does Marner represent the entire team? Why should I go find another team because I dislike the performance of one player relative to what he's paid? Do other fans not dislike players on their team?

So if Marner failed for 4 straight playoffs I guess you feel the same way about Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, and Rielly who were just as much a part of those series loses?

looking at juniors even Bedard has heavier shot than Marner and he is still a undrafted junior

I really wish Marner had worked on his shot in the offseason.

Too bad he got carjacked, and then some other shit happened to him too if am not mistaken; not the summer where marner could have focused 100% mentally

Nylander has 8 goals and 15 points in his last 14 playoff games @ 6.9 mill
Marner has 2 goals and 12 points in his last 14 playoff games @ 10.9 mill
..... See a difference? Nylander has .57 gpg average. Meanwhile Marner has 7 goals in his entire playoff career. A .18 gpg career mark.

Matthews was excellent vs Tampa and was dragging Marner all over the ice on his coat tails.

Marner mainly only produced when his linemates served him up points on a platter...giving him tons of space, watch the replays. One his space is taken away, he's completely ineffective.
