This move to Karpat seems to be doing wonders for Rindell. Do we have something with him?

I posted about it a couple weeks ago, there was a Finnish dude who posted a while back re: Rindell and how he was widely viewed as a very good player. He claimed to be a coach in Finland, and had 1st or second hand experience with Rindell if I remember correctly. The general jist of what the guy was talking about is that Rindell >> Kokonnen. To which he got flamed on here for lol.

I guess the guy who lives in Finland and who is involved with Finnish Hockey may have actually known about a Finnish player playing in Finland after all

Who would have figured...

Glad to see he is doing so well. Who knows what comes of it, I honestly don't know how sustainable those numbers are TBH because there were 2 likely statistical outlier games in the 3pt game and a 4pt game since joining Karpat. But that said, he's also registered points in 3/4 GP as a defensemen is quite the start.

I don't expect him to be 2pts/game from here on out, but clearly he is getting more of an opportunity now.

We should try to find his username and get him back in here.

dug up the original post:

After following this board for some time decided to write the first message just to give a view of couple of your Finnish prospects from Finland. As a professional coach with over 100 games seen of all your Finn prospect (just to point out, haven`t coached any of them, but talked to guys who have, so I know how their coaches see these players), and of witch a significant amount live, I get the feeling that there is nobody who actually know these players who are playing in Finland.

Just to take an easy example and compare Kokkonen and Rindell who were playing in the same team for two years. First of all, I think there isn´t a single pro in Finland who thinks Kokkonen is a better prospect or a better player than Rindell. Last year Kokkonen was no 1 in TOI in Jukurit, but it wasn´t because he was the best or the most important D. He was a local boy under a local coach. Those games when Kokkonen was out I think Jukurit had a better point average than with Kokkonen in and when Rindell was out they lost every single game. Rindell was chosen for every single EHT tournament and for the WC team. Jukka Jalonen, Finnish national coach plays a very safe tactics and doesn´t choose players with big issues in defence which also tells that the comments about Rindell sucks in D are from people who either haven´t seen him play or don´t understand that much of defensive play.

There was also someone who pointed out that Kokkonen is 9 months younger, which I think is a comment from someone who hasn´t been involved with junior coaching or doesn´t understand how junior players develop. As a big picture you can of course compare with that age difference a bigger amount of players but when you compare to individuals then you should have all the facts. In this case, Kokkonen was fully grown in height as 12/13 years and has been around current weight since about 16 and Rindell was fully grown as 18/19 and I think this current season will be the first with around final weight. Actually what I have heard and seen, it could be that Rindell was the last to one to still grow out of Leafs Finn prospects, even though some of them are over two years younger.

Also saw comments that one of the issues with Rindell is his skating. Last year 4th fastest skater in liiga and fastest D and at least in Finland everybody thinks that it is one of his strengths. Same numbers with Kokkonen 361 and 111.

And to be clear I also like Kokkonen as a player and think he has a possibilty to make NHL, which I think underlines even more of the level Rindell is playing and how little people in this forum know about players in Europe.

Will try to write also about your other Finnish prospects at some time, but this was something that really jumped in to my eye

Another patented Greg Moore call out. The PP definitely isn't good, but does he really not know how to motivate players other than by blasting them to the media?

This is why I hate this guy. Ripping on mostly young MINOR league players when he's as much at fault as a MINOR league coach. Own it buddy! Take the blame for once when they suck, whether or not your ego allows you to believe it's your fault or not, just stop pointing fingers at the players.

Even Keefe, thru whatever his faults, he takes the blame now and then and deflects it from the guys playing for him

I was never sure why Greg Moore was hired.

Methinks they traded noelle needham for that guy and as long as noelle needham is assistant gm of chicago steel, moore has to be coach of marlies. Because the trade is so lopsided, they decided to throw in that ryan hardy (whatever his name is) in.

He probably won't feel like doing that after the arrogant responses he received here.

Arrogant? Lmao. The guy had an awful end to the season last year while playing 2nd pair minutes (behind Kokkonen) with his rel stats dropping, his OZS increasing, and the production completely falling off. He then started this season even worse than anything he did last year to the point of being almost an irrelevant prospect. The guy was handed the keys to the castle as the #1 and he fell apart. It got to the point where it appeared like his coach straight up stopped trusting him in the defensive zone, cut his ATOI, and the production dried up. Also, I was a big fan of his early in the season last year almost having him as a top-10 guy in our pool prior to the drop off.

Has his start in Karpat put him back on the map? Sure. It's 8 points in 4 games lmao. How about we don't pretend like the last 30~(?) games before the trade didn't happen though and subtweet me. Let's also not forget it's been four games.

Though you look advanced stats and know him by reports from NA scouts. That writer has saw him play and discussed with his coaches, so who's bias is better? Rindell making WC last season was big thing, because like that writer said Jalonen doesn't give rope in defensive game, either you have it or your out. Olli Jokinen is new coach in Finland and seems bit messy at the moment, so I'm not surprised that some players have problems with his style. Kärpät is usually pretty structured team which helps also individuals.

Lets see, he is pretty interesting prospect and I wouldn't say for sure which one of our young Finnish dman will excel in future. All has a chance and it's also different game in NA, so who adapts. Lehtonen was great in Europe, but his game didn't suit NA.

Good thing we have both Kokkonen and Rindell + Niemelä.
