They are not really standing out, but have been quietly effective. I think Villeneuve is like that too, but both Hoefenmayer and Villeneuve have a lot more offensive upside than Hellickson.

I stand by the position that the Leafs should trade Kivihalme. We have other offensive options and he is not particularly good defensively. However, the main reason right now is that he takes a roster spot away from a younger guy. It is ridiculous that only one of Kral, Hoefenmayer, McCourt, Finkelstein, Kapcheck, Hellickson, or Pietroniro will be an extra on the Marlies next year with the amount of depth we have there right now. The rest would be the top 6 for the Growlers.

I have a feeling there will be another trade for the Leafs, since we have a bit of a log jam in the NHL right now (without even considering Gusev and Ho-Sang), so throwing him into a trade may be something the Leafs do.
I don't disagree.

What is Kivihalme's trade value in your opinion?

Pretty much nothing. He can get another AHLer at another position. He maybe could get someone as good as Petan, but more than likely we just tack him onto a deal for nothing.

We also have a log jam in net, with Woll and Kallgren filling the same spot on the depth chart. Since we just brought in Kallgren, we might move Woll as well. It really depends on how much of an impression Petruzzelli and Scott have made. Not too many teams need goalie prospects though... Columbus, Seattle, and San Jose are probably the top 3.

That does not even account for the major wave of guys coming in next year on the back end. Hollowell, Menell, Rubins, and Duszak are going to need to prove they can be high end depth guys if they want to stay in this organization. We don't have room for mid-20's AHL depth with Kokkonen, Villeneuve, Rindell, and Niemela (+ any number of those AHL contracts) coming through.

Dmitry Ovchinnikov doesn't appear to be in the lineup for his KHL team today. This year could end up being a total waste for him. He doesn't have anything left to prove in the MHL either.

It sucks, but it was expected. There's simply no good option because Sibir couldn't care less about his development.

With all due respect, If Sibir was expecting to dress and play Dmitri 0-7 seconds per game I'd have to question what the f*** the point of dressing him is. I don't know if they are allowed to dress an extra forward each game or not, but this legit makes zero sense.

if this continue the Leafs have to intervene. He is better drowning in the AHL/ECHL over sitting his entire D+2 season. Hard to imagine the money he is making with Sibir will be enough to make him want to waste potential development years

I've been worried about it since last season. He's signed in Sibir so his only option is to terminate his contract (unlikely), go to the VHL (won't happen), or go to the MHL (pointless). It's possible he could get traded, but why would a team waste assets for a guy with ties to NA.

Ya, I guess it really comes down to how much he is making in Russia. I don't think that kind of stuff is public, and even if it is, there is so much under the table money that gets tossed around in that league that I agree, it might be tough for him to walk away from.

That said. 7 seconds? lol

I know he's not in much of a position to stand up for himself, but if i had a coach that sat me the entire game only to call my name in the 3rd, I'd tell him to f*** off. skates would be completely untied at that point. Hard to believe Dmitry is OK with this. Maybe it's enough to give him the motivation to play elsewhere. He will always have a job in the KHL later in life, if he cares about his NHL aspirations he really needs to pursue other options.

SDA with a nice goal, nice Duszak assist. Douglas also with a nice assist from down low... such a big guy, he just can't be pushed out, easy goal for Kressler I think McKenna and Abramov with assists on the first goal by Frasca as well.

I mean... this Douglas kid, I'd love to have him in the lineup in a year or so... 6'8" 260 lbs.. and he has game.

robertson finally pots one today. he's had a lot of looks, but hasn't had much luck getting shots through bodies.

He is a better player than I expected TBH. Moves surprisingly well for a big fella. Kind of takes a couple strides to get going, but if he gets into open ice, he actually can get moving decently. He's also shown decent hands as well. Not sure I see NHL level talent yet, but he's definitely got a shot one day. I'd like to see how he does this year with a full season in the AHL. Really develop him into a 2 way checking centre. I think he will need time to adjust to a faster pace, but he has seemingly looked more and more effective each passing game of this tournament

Robertson is a beast. Just crushed a CBJ player after two dirty hits from Meyer and then gets in a fight (scrum). 5 minute misconduct for roughing. Started two scrums this game.

Scored once but could have had a couple. Him and SDA have been on another level the past two games.

Duszak with a good offensive game. I'm not sure he'll ever be good enough defensively, but he's got a point shot we sure could use.

yeah robertson getting a 5 min penalty and the leafs being shorthanded for the entire overtime for this is ridiculous

Did he take down three different guys on this play?

honestly, I thought that was kind of a dumb penalty for Robby. Ultimately it cost his team the game. I would have been choked as well with the prior runs at him, but he's gotta be more disciplined. He had a bunch of retaliatory penalties with the Marlies last year as well. He's gotta figure that shit out. He straight cro-checked the dude in the head, he could have got his jabs in another way IMO. It was a pretty dirty shot from the from the one angle we saw. I'm sure if we saw more than 1 camera angle he might have gotten away with just a major lol. Not sure you can get a suspension in a development camp game, but I'm sure they'd look at it if they can.

All n all, I think Robby looks exactly how he looked last year. I watched every game except yesterdays. He clearly has more talent than anyone I saw in this tournament. from an offensive perspective I actually think Roberston will get better as he rises up the ranks. Lots of the chances he created this tournament were entirely from his own creativity. I think if you surround him with equally creative players that can distribute the puck on a tee for him, this kid will score in bunches.

He is just an elite finisher, and he is always looking to shoot that puck. He has to have the biggest shoot first mentality I've ever seen from a Leafs prospect.

I really think this kid should eventually play with Marner. Mitch is essentially a 30x better version of SDA. He would get a shit ton of space with Mitch and Auston, and 2 elite level disher's to feed him all day. I'm not sure his strength is where it needs to be to play consistently in the NHL yet, but who knows. I guess we will just have to wait and see how he does at main camp. If he can prove that he can stay on his skates throughout camp he is has to be strongly considered on the left side in our top 6
